Nice. Exactly right. Habeas is to individual rights what voting is to democracy and representation government at the outset. I hate the fact people believe this is a good thing and will solve problems that "require" solutions. But, Americans didn't create domestic terrorism or this problem; it is the product of what most don't know and couldn't have known. I didn't realize America was an Islamic or Jewish sectarian theocracy. Voting and the first Amendment have been usurped; not our bad.

are trying to act smart by asking rhetorical questions? "How about killing Muslim clerics"? You sound like an emo mama's boy. The point of this, is that Olbermann is a typical historionic whiner, just like Dean, Moore and some of these other left wingers, who feign indignation to make them look like they are David fighting Goliath. People aren't getting rounded up and thrown into jail, so Olbermann just needs to try decaf next time. Plus: ما فيش احد هنا اللي قال أن اللإسلام شر اخي لا تبالغ

I can also show you a long list of people who DO like G. Bush. Luckily, now we have both Dems slamming each other, no time to slam Bush.
Humor is wasted on the ever serious. But on another topic, yes, the Keith at times, well, his delivery can be, well, you know. Strip away the drama, and his arguments, at their core, are, well; well founded, well reasoned, even if disagreeable, and is why I appreciate his method despite the possible criticisms. As for your post they would almost seem to be a call to NOT fear government, power, authority, as if, almost, a total abandonment of accountability. History shows, a good idea always.
One of my last jobs was with a school district, I quit (was fired) for refusing to attend admin meetings where I got to hear bragging about sucker punching preachers with porn vids also made for public schools - they all liked to also pretend that they were gung ho anti terrorist military dudes - one of my childhood friends daughters was raped in the school during the same period - denial reings, of course... is that what's called a pubic education?
Olberman's ex-girlfriend says she dumped him because he could not satisfy her. Seems he is extremely short in that area. I guess that is why he is so prone to moronic rants.
you are also correct. Americans are not much appreciated and that is why I am of the opinion that we should take out troops out of where they are not appreciated and bring them home. Problem is, when there is a problem in the world the US is always called first, that needs to change and other countries and/or the UN need to get their act together with their forces and stop relying on us.
Bush didn't "make up" anything, the Iraq Survey report proves that as well as the Duelfer report and Kay report. let's not forget the Iraqi National Congress who def. wanted to take out Saddam. Plus clinton and other dems all through the 90s stated that US foreign policy was regime change. Bush just had the balls after 9/11 to do it. The US is somewhat of a big oaf, but we always mean well... just look at Somalia and Bosnia
Maybe there is something you don't understand, so let me explain it to you a bit clearer.
If 10 reports say that Bush should be ousted and 67 % of all the Americans want him out, and congress wants him out......then it is Ok that Europe shows up with troops to kick him out of office ?
Because that is what you are saying about Iraq.
You may not like a leader, but Iraq, Cuba, N-Korea, China etc are all sovereign states and their internal affairs is none of your business.
The USA wasn't the only one there. There were 30 other countries. 75% percent of the people and the country at the time supported invading Iraq after Saddam didn't comply. Looking back should we have done it, no, but hindsight is 20/20. Saddam seems to have been bluffing until sanctions were lifted and he could restart his nuke program, but we called his bluff.
There is a beautiful saying which says to think before you act. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld etc never heard about this principle, they think everything can be solved by war and violence.
Even Eisenhower, as a former General, knew that war should always be the last option, not the first.
Saddam did not have a nuclear programm and was completely unable to restart it. That has been proven many times and there are enough reports which can explain you this.
I don't know about you, but the coalition of Gulf War 1 and Gulf War 2 cannot be compared. In the first Gulf War almost every country on earth supported and contributed, even the Arab countries came to help and not with 100 soldiers...whole divisions were shipped to Saudi.
In this invasion of Iraq, the US supplied 99, 99 %of the troops and some other, very small contributors (except for the UK) sent a couple of 100 soldiers each.
Just to fix a few things, we put in about 550,000 troops, and the UK was in Desert Storm(they sent the famous Desert Rats 5 Armoured Division which is a few thousand troops) and there were dozens of other countries, that sent thousands. In this war now, its practically just us and the new Iraqi and Afghani Governments
Nobody liked Saddam and he was a dictator in his country, but there are more dictators around the world, which are fully supported by the US.
Bush Sr and Clinton understood perfectly that they had no mandate and no legal means to kick Saddam out. The only thing they could do was to try and establish a regime change in a diplomatic way or via sanctions.
Bush Jr simply took the illegal way and started a war. He cooked the books to prove his point, but no WMD were ever found.
I sound like a broken record here I know. But Bush did not "cook the books" read the Iraq Study, I did. Bush and every other country who had the same intelligence came to the same conclusion. Bush is faaaar from perfect, but he had the security of this country in mind and I commend him and the troops for sticking with it. If we had just left, things would be much worse. So far al-qaeda has won not a single battle.
Perhaps you forgot the statements Rice, Cheney and others made months before the speech of Powell.
All of them stated that they knew for sure that Saddam did not have WMD not the capability to make them. 2 months later all of a sudden everything was changed.
If the only supplier of the info is the US it is logic that everyone else comes to the same conclusion. Perhaps that is a surprise for you, but not for me.
And trust me, Bush did not have the security of the US on his mind. If that was the case he would go after Osama.
What he wanted was to finish the job his father wisely left undone. Bush wanted to prove himself as someone who can take decisions.
Well, a decision to go to war is very simple. Bush went in, but had no idea what to do next.
Al-Qaeda's goal is to set up a Muslims caliphate by destroying what they consider apostate regimes in the Middle East. All they have managed to do is kill thousands of people, earn the scorn of more moderate Muslims, and hide in caves sending out cheesy videos. They also brought the wrath of the West upon them and have actually encouraged democracy in Saudi and Lebanon and facilitated Qadafi giving up his nuke program. Not quite a victory.
And if you think the IRA is the wrong example....think about ETA. Also busy for decades, still killing a lot of people. Just recently again another major bomb attack and no end in sight.
And also Spain and France are trying to root them out with military and police force. So far.....zero luck.
If you are in anti-terrorist activities you should understand that you can only win if the terrorist lose the support of the local people. When those people stop supporting the terrorists or when a true leader steps up to the plate you may have a chance to end the bloodshed. The local people will stop the support if they feel safe and secure and at this moment they don't.
At this moment there is more than enough support for the so called 'terrorists'.
Just a little thing to say... We can not end this war. I am a STRONG supporter of it, don't get me wrong, but these people are completely controlled by their religious leaders, and in the Koran it sais to kill Infidels(the religious leaders minipulate this to get everyone against this) although, most of the people that hate us really only SAY it, because in these mobs when they say it, are radicals which pubically execute you if you do not say to kill the "infidels"
Thousands dead on 9/11, thousands dead in Iraq and Afghanastan. All the while Oil Companies, Haliburton, Bush, Chenny, and Bunch have made Billions even Trillions. The "Loser" are those that want their rights to live their lives. Those that want to enjoy being Americans and the freedoms that comes with that title.
Hmmm... so we only count American lives, as, obviously, they are the only ones that count? yes... yes... I see what you mean... only Americans can be "free", and those dastardly sand negros are interfering with your right to enjoy said freedom. Yes. I'm sure your well intentioned, but your myopic contextualization of the Iraq war as measured in US "sacrifices" is endemic to a flawed particularly North American way of interpreting global human events.
Did I say that? NO. I stated Thousands dead, Not thousands of Americans. I stated that the "Loser" are those that want their rights to live their lives. The last sentence pertains to Habeus Corpus, Which by the way is protected in the US Constitution. That is what this video is about(Guess you missed that part). So I am saying that the loss of life is Horrible(All the lives), and the loss of freedoms that have been enjoyed by the U.S. Constitution.
I worked closely together with the US military in many countries, but I never understood why they could not understand different cultures and the way you should behave when you are in another country.
Everywhere they were behaving like a horse in a porcelain shop.
Could it be one of the reasons why Americans are not much appreciated all over the globe ?
I think you might be generalizing a bit here. Surely there are many Americans who act like fools in other countries, and that is embarrassing to me. Young, naive military guys are not the greatest representation but no worse than English or German soccer hooligans who come here.
Gen Schwarzkopf was a hero in every Arab country, not because he barged into the place like an idiot. He knew the sensitivities of the region, treated everyone with the proper respect when that was required and understood that he was a guest in their countries.
After the Gulfwar the USA had a shitload of credits..........now, all those credits are gone.
whoa whoa whoa here, let me remind you we are in Iraq now because of the failure of Bush 41 and esp. clinton to deal with Saddam. And again, we have bases in kuwait, Bahrain, and saudi because they ASKED us to come and funded that war. It took us 15 years to end it.
You are not in Iraq because of the failure of Bush Sr. Bush Sr. only had a mandate to kick Iraq out of Kuwait and nothing else. Like I said, learn your history and then start talking, not the other way around.
If you want an inside view of the Gulf War, to get up to speed again, better read the book of Gen Schwarzkopf 'it doesn't take a hero'. He explains in detail how all the Arabs came onboard and who really funded the war. You may be in for a surprise.
mambo, btw, your assertion that Powell's speech was all false is absolutely BS. I am not going to school you here because there isn't enough space, but you are way out of your league.
So the Gulf war did not take 15 years to end it. It was finished the moment Iraq was kicked out of Kuwait. That was the end of the mandate.
After that started the whole argument about the Kurds, the WMD and the inspections.
In the end it was Bush who cooked up the story about the WMD. Remember the speech of Powell at the UN ? Not a single item in that speech was true or based on facts. That speech paved the way for Bush to start his invasion.
sigh... Mambo, you are so wrong it hurts. After gulf 1, Saddam had 90 to comply with destruction of WMDs, then he attacked the North and South with sorties, hence ops ONW OSW, during this time was bribing the UN, trying to assasinate Bush 41, executing family members, he then kicked inspectors out in 1998 and started launching SAMs at allied acft until 2003 and shot 3 predators down. Get a grip.
Sorry to disappoint you, but if Kurdistan is the only place where they like the US military it is not a very good accomplishment.
How about the civilized world ?
And in Iraq ?
The majority wants the US to stay ? That is news to me, since last polls clearly showed 80 % of the Iraqis want to US out ASAP. In their opinion they traded Saddam for another occupier. I can't blame them.
for one thing many nations of the civilized world had or had troops in Iraq since 2003.
And your poll figures are misleading, the number is around 50 % many want the US forces to stay until the country is stabilized which is beginning to happen now, violence is at its lowest since 2003 thanks to the surge. Peace.
After the surge, the violence has gone down to the lowest amount since 2003, there is no way to deny that. The problem was Rumsfeld and his stubborness, so Bush fired him.
Btw McCain's visit was before the end of the surge. One question: Are you secretly routing for the USA to lose out of spite? Believe it or not, I can understand that sentiment, but were we to lose to AQ, it benefits nobody.
I am not secretly hoping the US will lose for the simple reason that I (and many with me) knew that this is a war you cannot win.
I think that if we look 20 years from now we will see a completely torn apart Iraq. Either by civil war or divided into 3 or 4 separate little states, but I also don't rule out an islamic state like Iran.
The Middle East will be severely destabilized, a breeding ground for islamic fundamentalism.
I got out of the military in 2002. I now work as a terrorism analyst. I know what unconventional warfare means. We didn't use massive force in Iraq, that was the problem. And how dare you say we don't try to win the hearts and minds. I could school you on the reality here but I don't have the time, desire nor alloted comment space to do it. And it's the brits who fucked up the ME to begin with!! Why is it our problem?
Who ever started fuck it up a long time ago is not important. Important is that the US is AT THIS MOMENT fucking the ME up and that is something you tend to forget.
Iraq was stable after the GulfWar, Saddam was no longer a threat, there were no terrorists coming from that country. Saddam may not have been a friendly guy, but that is no reason to kick him out. Iraq was a sovereign state, should be respected.
The reason for terrorism is that these angry men, inspired by Ibn Taymiya, Ibn Wahab, Sayyid Qutb, Bana and other of the Muslim brotherhood want to wipe out Israel and install a Muslim Caliphate.
The amount of people you kill is not determining whether or not you are a war criminal. It is not something like: 'oh, it is only 50 people we murdered, so it doesn't count'.
And yes, there is a difference between 'collateral damage' and 'targeting civilians'.
Also Abu Graib is considered a war crime and again Bush is responsible.
You're right Mambo, let's just all give up and let the terrorists do as they please like they have for 35 years. It's really easy to armchair quarterback from the outside when you aren't involved, that's the difference between me and you.
The fact that you think the terrorists will ruin the world if you don't do what you're doing now basically says it all.
You don't realize that with this attitude you don't need terrorists at all, you will do the job for them.
Iraq is turned into rubble, same for Afghanistan. Now Bush has his visor on Iran and in the US Big Brother is watching everyone, but the borders are still wide open.
It does not matter how you want to call her, officer or secret agent. It is a crime to expose them and this crime has been committed by the Bush administration.
Of course I also know that Rove is probably behind it, this is his way of working. But Libby was involved as well and became the fall guy. He was convicted in a court of law and then received a pardon which showed complete disrespect for the laws of the US by the Bush administration.
If you would read well you would see the word 'probably' in that sentence. If you don't know what it means..........look it up.
Fact is that the name of Plame was leaked on purpose and that is a criminal offense in any which way you want to look at it. Can't make anything else of it.
You don't need to suspend Habeas Corpus for that . If you save a child from a burning house, do you think that you will be prosecuted for illegally breaking into a home? What you are saying is like it's ok to suspend laws regarding "illegal break-ins" because it might save children down the road.
What I am saying is that despite his flaws, George Bush has kept the USA safe from attack for 6 years by thwarting multiple attacks through tough policies, freed Aghanistan from the Taliban, ridded the world of Saddam, turned a miracle in Iraq with the surge, halted Irans nuke program in 2003, made Qaddafi give up his etc.. if a few eggs are broken, so be it
but mostly IMO the demand for attacking the US has increased as a result of bush's policies and I certainly don't feel safer, creating demand and thwarting supply is not sound policies. And in Iraq, we have rendered this country so dysfunctional that even the "insurgents" are not able to operate, that is quite an achievement.
of course you disagree. If Bush says the sky is blue you'd say it's orange. There is no point, you hate him, fine. I couldn't care less. Thing is I don't see how you can disagree with facts. The US appeased terrorist entities for too long. Afg. achieved its objective and Iraq is getting better, but then again you probably hope the US loses in Iraq, which is pretty disturbing if true.
Listen libertarian37 don't even go there, this is not about me, our constitution is under attack, and you can't make any solid arguments defending your own point of view so now you're coming after me; "you probably hope the US loses in Iraq" " If Bush says the sky is blue you'd say it's orange" LOL I'm out of here.
Ior98: I apologize, I didn't realize I was trying rationality on a woman, won't happen again.
And my point of view is simple, habeus corpus was suspended for Jose Pedilla aka Abdullah al-Muhajir, who was tried and convicted of conspiracy to kill Americans. He could have been put to death vis a vis ex parte quirin. Btw, Iorr is a fitting name.
It is indeed time that Bush is brought to trial for all the crimes he has committed.
Freeing Scooter Libby was, in my opinion, a blatant form of disrespect for justice in the US.
A black man received a 1 year sentence for every dollar that he stole, thus ending up with a sentence of 75 years !
Scooter Libby (and others above him) committed treason (exposing a secret agent of the US) and he is walking the streets again instead of spending the rest of his life in prison.
real crimes or crimes according to you? Bush never "freed" Libby. Libby wasn't indicted for that anyway, Armitage is the one who blabbed, he got in trouble for perjury. And the news exposes agency officers and programs every chance it gets. Plus Plame shouldn't have suggested her hubbie to go to Niger in the he first place. Your facts and arguments are weak.
I did not make the laws in the US, but I apparently know them better than you.
It is a crime in the US to expose the identity of a secret agent. Whether you like or dislike Plame, she was an agent for the CIA and her identity was leaked on purpose by the Bush administration. That constitutes a crime, cannot make anything else of it.
I don't understand why you sing 'hosanna' over Iraq and Afghanistan. Both countries are not getting anywhere, in fact the Taliban and Al Qaeda are getting the upper hand.
Iraq is widely regarded as the breeding ground for new terrorists, so don't understand your view that the world has got safer.
In Afghanistan whole provinces are currently lost to the Taliban. Today the Aussies were ringing the alarm bell, so better check your facts.
1. He attacked Iraq for no apparent reason. The fact that you don't like the leader is not a valid reason. So explain me why Bush should walk ?
2. His soldiers widely commit war crimes (the killing of innocent civilians has been the issue of many court martials). As commander in chief that makes him responsible as well.
3. The CIA has acknowledged torturing the prisoners of Guantanamo Bay. As commander in Chief it makes Bush responsible.
Well, perhaps you are forgetting the little village where approximately 21 people were murdered by some soldiers who are now on trial for that.
And then we have the case against Blackwater and the list goes on.
But just the fact that Bush started this war is already enough to convict him. There was no authorization from any international organization, so it was an illegal war and that makes you a war criminal, whether you like it or not.
It's called a war, something you know little about. Do you talk to Iraqis and Afghanis? I do, they would disagree and so would all the dead al-qaeda folks. Do you even follow the news? Not getting anywhere? Pathetic statement.
How do you know what I know about war ? Do you know me ?
And if you would get your head out of your arse you would know that the war in Iraq and Afghanistan are not going very well. According to Bush the war in Iraq was 'won' soon after the invasion. If so, then I wonder why soldiers are still getting killed on a daily basis.
And Australia today send out the message that NATO is losing the war in Afghanistan. Again, check you facts before you comment.
For one, CIA doesn't have "secret agents", they are called officers. Her name was inadvertently leaked by Armitage not Libbey, he knew because it was widely known she was a CIA officer due to her marriage to ad hoc ambassador Joe Wilson. The court never found the Bush admin. guilty of leaking anything. You are very easily manipulated it seems. You know nothing of this case.
First of all, you were never at war with Iraq. In 1991 it was the UN who authorized the operation against Iraq. It was also decided not to invade Iraq further then necessary and pull out of Iraq after the hostilities seized.
Please check your facts and history if you want to make comments. Makes you look rather foolish if you say these things.
The UN authorized this reiteration of the first war with something called resolution 1441. Yes, the same UN that was taking millions of dollars in bribe money from Saddam Hussein. Rationalize your way out of that one.
I view the comments of Keith Olberman as objective and straight to the point. I have never heard or seen a comment of his where he was actually telling lies.
I can understand that his comments are not fun when you are a Republican, but then again.........the comments and actions of Bush/Cheney etc are not fun for the rest of the world !
Keith Olberman is so biased and petty it makes my teeth itch... In regards to your black man comment. OJ simpson murdered two people and was let go, Scott Peterson, a white guy, murdered two people and was convicted, so by your logic Peterson was a victim of racism towards whites. Nice try using an exploitative, race card drawing straw man tactic though.
same shit over and over every day. olberman is a piss in his pants sock puppet. a man with no sense of what's going on in reality. he's listened to his own socialist crap for to long it's monotonous. same shit over and over every day
Who here supports unbridled capitalism, supports unbridled political money contributions, who still thinks this is necessary from a president who knowingly lied to the people. BTW, the judicial branch is nothing now, international law is ignored, and the accused do not have the right of trial by jury.
You want to save American lives? Secure our borders and stop fighting a politically correct war against the jihadists, you inept president! BTW Olberman is a lying scumbag too.
you can't petition the government??? imprisonement without trials??? Shall fly over from England? is it safe for me to protest in New York in September??
hehe too bad not a single person can come forward and say they have lost a right or any protection that the constitution provides..just keep repeating a bunch of bs..maybe someone will believe you..nonsense like this was just as bad when bill clinton lied under oath and the repubs went after him..ohh wait..it hasnt been proven this president has lied to anyone.
While i agree with everything he says, there is no need to present it in such a mocking and dramatised way. Olberman is much more powerful when speaking in truths and rhetoric. This was just the dramatisation of an important subject.
This from the government that gave us Fighting for Peace and Forcing Democracy on Iraq ... sorta like F***ing for Virginity isn't it? And the mainstream media only just noticed? 1984 really came didn't it!
Habeas Corpus basicly means that you have the right to say "WTF am Im doing hear!?", like if you are in prison or hidden somewhere by, oh lets say, superscary dudes in shiny costumes and dark sunglasses :)
Well, if you had the education to spell properly (It should be "here", not "hear.") perhaps you wouldn't be so afraid of "superscary dudes in shiny costumes and dark sunglasses." ;) Unfortunately, Bush has been working hard on keeping Americans uneducated so he can have cheap labor for his refineries. ;)
Imagine waking from a 7 year coma to what we have today. A person wouldn't recognize the country called the United States of America. Why are neo-cons so intent on making America a fascist state?
Well lets see In the name of the United States we spy on our own citizens now without court orders, we torture now and even the "Torture Bill and the Patriot Act make it law for Americans to be detained and deported as enemy combatants, we have a President who has signed hundereds of "Signing Statements of laws he feels he alone does not have to obey, they have paid and are paying so called journalist to write propoganda for their failed policies and the list goes on and on.

Strip away the drama, and his arguments, at their core, are, well; well founded, well reasoned, even if disagreeable, and is why I appreciate his method despite the possible criticisms. and mambo,
you are also correct. Americans are not much appreciated and that is why I am of the opinion that we should take out troops out of where they are not appreciated and bring them home. Problem is, when there is a problem in the world the US is always called first, that needs to change and other countries and/or the UN need to get their act together with their forces and stop relying on us.

@ libertarian,
Nobody called for the invasion of Iraq. It was Bush who wanted to invade and made up some bogus information, which other countries believed.
Nobody is asking now for an invasion of Iran and nobody asked for the invasion of Granada or ousting Noriega.
Everybody with a little understanding of the region saw the current situation coming. Bush should have too.
mambo4269 4 years ago
Bush didn't "make up" anything, the Iraq Survey report proves that as well as the Duelfer report and Kay report. let's not forget the Iraqi National Congress who def. wanted to take out Saddam. Plus clinton and other dems all through the 90s stated that US foreign policy was regime change. Bush just had the balls after 9/11 to do it. The US is somewhat of a big oaf, but we always mean well... just look at Somalia and Bosnia
libertarian37 4 years ago
@libertarian,
Maybe there is something you don't understand, so let me explain it to you a bit clearer.
If 10 reports say that Bush should be ousted and 67 % of all the Americans want him out, and congress wants him out......then it is Ok that Europe shows up with troops to kick him out of office ?
Because that is what you are saying about Iraq.
You may not like a leader, but Iraq, Cuba, N-Korea, China etc are all sovereign states and their internal affairs is none of your business.
mambo4269 4 years ago
Again,
The USA wasn't the only one there. There were 30 other countries. 75% percent of the people and the country at the time supported invading Iraq after Saddam didn't comply. Looking back should we have done it, no, but hindsight is 20/20. Saddam seems to have been bluffing until sanctions were lifted and he could restart his nuke program, but we called his bluff.
libertarian37 4 years ago
@libertarian,
There is a beautiful saying which says to think before you act.
Look them up please.
mambo4269 4 years ago
I don't know about you, but the coalition of Gulf War 1 and Gulf War 2 cannot be compared. In the first Gulf War almost every country on earth supported and contributed, even the Arab countries came to help and not with 100 soldiers...whole divisions were shipped to Saudi.
In this invasion of Iraq, the US supplied 99, 99 %of the troops and some other, very small contributors (except for the UK) sent a couple of 100 soldiers each.
mambo4269 4 years ago
Just to fix a few things, we put in about 550,000 troops, and the UK was in Desert Storm(they sent the famous Desert Rats 5 Armoured Division which is a few thousand troops) and there were dozens of other countries, that sent thousands. In this war now, its practically just us and the new Iraqi and Afghani Governments
MDethloff 4 years ago
Nobody liked Saddam and he was a dictator in his country, but there are more dictators around the world, which are fully supported by the US.
Bush Sr and Clinton understood perfectly that they had no mandate and no legal means to kick Saddam out. The only thing they could do was to try and establish a regime change in a diplomatic way or via sanctions.
Bush Jr simply took the illegal way and started a war. He cooked the books to prove his point, but no WMD were ever found.
mambo4269 4 years ago
I sound like a broken record here I know. But Bush did not "cook the books" read the Iraq Study, I did. Bush and every other country who had the same intelligence came to the same conclusion. Bush is faaaar from perfect, but he had the security of this country in mind and I commend him and the troops for sticking with it. If we had just left, things would be much worse. So far al-qaeda has won not a single battle.
libertarian37 4 years ago
@libertarian,
Perhaps you forgot the statements Rice, Cheney and others made months before the speech of Powell.
All of them stated that they knew for sure that Saddam did not have WMD not the capability to make them. 2 months later all of a sudden everything was changed.
Coincidence ? Don't think so.
mambo4269 4 years ago
If the only supplier of the info is the US it is logic that everyone else comes to the same conclusion. Perhaps that is a surprise for you, but not for me.
And trust me, Bush did not have the security of the US on his mind. If that was the case he would go after Osama.
What he wanted was to finish the job his father wisely left undone. Bush wanted to prove himself as someone who can take decisions.
Well, a decision to go to war is very simple. Bush went in, but had no idea what to do next.
mambo4269 4 years ago
It's not just Bush, he had all of the military brass advising him.
libertarian37 4 years ago
Al-Qaeda has not won a single battle ?
How about 9/11 ?
Where have I heard that rhetoric before ? Hmm, was that Vietnam perhaps ?
The body count is such and such, we are winning. 'We beat the hell out the North Vietnamese' 'We will carpet bomb them'.
And who won ?
Al Qaeda is not a military organization. Their goal is to wreak havoc, to kill as many as they can. Looks to me they are succeeding.
mambo4269 4 years ago
Al-Qaeda's goal is to set up a Muslims caliphate by destroying what they consider apostate regimes in the Middle East. All they have managed to do is kill thousands of people, earn the scorn of more moderate Muslims, and hide in caves sending out cheesy videos. They also brought the wrath of the West upon them and have actually encouraged democracy in Saudi and Lebanon and facilitated Qadafi giving up his nuke program. Not quite a victory.

usnavyvet2002 3 years ago
The fact that you speak about 'Al Qaeda has not won a single battle' shows me that you understand zilch about this type of warfare.
You still think you can rationalize what is happening, that you can define a victory and that there is an end to this type of warfare.
In that case you may want to ask the Israëlis how they are doing with the Palestinians.
That conflict already goes on for over 4 decades and still no end in sight. Israel is now building a wall to keep them out of Israel.
mambo4269 4 years ago
And if you think the IRA is the wrong example....think about ETA. Also busy for decades, still killing a lot of people. Just recently again another major bomb attack and no end in sight.
And also Spain and France are trying to root them out with military and police force. So far.....zero luck.
mambo4269 4 years ago
the Israelis built a wall, pulled out of Gaza and showed just how idiotic Hamas is at leading. When was the last attack in Israel? Awhile ago.
libertarian37 4 years ago
If you are in anti-terrorist activities you should understand that you can only win if the terrorist lose the support of the local people. When those people stop supporting the terrorists or when a true leader steps up to the plate you may have a chance to end the bloodshed. The local people will stop the support if they feel safe and secure and at this moment they don't.
At this moment there is more than enough support for the so called 'terrorists'.
mambo4269 4 years ago 3
Any idea how long the IRA was busy in Northern Ireland ? If not, go look it up.
That is how long motivated people can keep things going and trust me......these moslims are motivated.
How did it finally come to an end in Northern Ireland ?
Right.
So eventually sitting around a table, yes, with the 'enemy' is probably the only solution.
mambo4269 4 years ago 2

Those that want to enjoy being Americans and the freedoms that comes with that title.
davidharris81 3 years ago 2
Hmmm... so we only count American lives, as, obviously, they are the only ones that count? yes...
EmanuelWazar 3 years ago

Could it be one of the reasons why Americans are not much appreciated all over the globe ?
mambo4269 4 years ago
I think you might be generalizing a bit here. Surely there are many Americans who act like fools in other countries, and that is embarrassing to me. Young, naive military guys are not the greatest representation but no worse than English or German soccer hooligans who come here.

@libertarian,
Gen Schwarzkopf was a hero in every Arab country, not because he barged into the place like an idiot. He knew the sensitivities of the region, treated everyone with the proper respect when that was required and understood that he was a guest in their countries.
After the Gulfwar the USA had a shitload of credits..........now, all those credits are gone.
Nice going.
mambo4269 4 years ago
whoa whoa whoa here, let me remind you we are in Iraq now because of the failure of Bush 41 and esp. clinton to deal with Saddam. And again, we have bases in kuwait, Bahrain, and saudi because they ASKED us to come and funded that war. It took us 15 years to end it.
libertarian37 4 years ago
@libertarian
You may be in for a surprise.
mambo4269 4 years ago
mambo, btw, your assertion that Powell's speech was all false is absolutely BS. I am not going to school you here because there isn't enough space, but you are way out of your league.
libertarian37 4 years ago
@libertarian,
I can still see Powell sitting there with pictures, drawings etc and not a single one of them was correct.
Powell himself calls it his darkest day in his life. So if he admits it was all BS....you will tell him he is an idiot ?
mambo4269 4 years ago
So the Gulf war did not take 15 years to end it. It was finished the moment Iraq was kicked out of Kuwait. That was the end of the mandate.
After that started the whole argument about the Kurds, the WMD and the inspections.
In the end it was Bush who cooked up the story about the WMD. Remember the speech of Powell at the UN ? Not a single item in that speech was true or based on facts. That speech paved the way for Bush to start his invasion.
mambo4269 4 years ago
Get a grip.
libertarian37 4 years ago
@libertarian,
I see that you still believe all the propaganda, so you may want to start going through all the UN resolutions and figure out WHY they were there.
You may also run across some reports of the IAEA who correctly stated that Saddam had no WMD.
You may also find that kicking inspectors out was not a valid reason for starting a war. Clinton understood that.
Contrary to his father, Bush jr invaded on an interpretation of a UN resolution.
In the end the WMD were never found.
mambo4269 4 years ago
So we have to compare US soldiers with Hooligans?
And just for your information.....it were not only the GI's who did not know how to behave, also high ranking officers sometimes had no clue.
Just for the fun of it.....name me one country where the local people like the US military. And I also mean the countries where the US has bases.
Other than the people who directly profit....good luck.
mambo4269 4 years ago
Iraq: the majority doesn't want US to leave. the govt is free to kick us out at any time.
Aghanistan: most like security we provide, we are waaay better than taliban
Kurdistan: they love use
Germany, well they like the money
Iceland: we built their airport in keflavik
libertarian37 4 years ago
Sorry to disappoint you, but if Kurdistan is the only place where they like the US military it is not a very good accomplishment.
How about the civilized world ?
And in Iraq ?
The majority wants the US to stay ? That is news to me, since last polls clearly showed 80 % of the Iraqis want to US out ASAP. In their opinion they traded Saddam for another occupier. I can't blame them.
mambo4269 4 years ago
Nice manipulation of the polling.
for one thing many nations of the civilized world had or had troops in Iraq since 2003.
And your poll figures are misleading, the number is around 50 % many want the US forces to stay until the country is stabilized which is beginning to happen now, violence is at its lowest since 2003 thanks to the surge. Peace.
libertarian37 4 years ago
The fact that you still have to live with this type of violence should tell you enough.
I can still see McCain walking over the market, with approximately 30 body guards, bullet proof vest.
That is indeed the sign of a very safe country and a safe city.
Don't remember people walking with bulletproof vests in the time of Saddam, but perhaps I am mistaken.
mambo4269 4 years ago
After the surge, the violence has gone down to the lowest amount since 2003, there is no way to deny that. The problem was Rumsfeld and his stubborness, so Bush fired him.
Btw McCain's visit was before the end of the surge. One question: Are you secretly routing for the USA to lose out of spite? Believe it or not, I can understand that sentiment, but were we to lose to AQ, it benefits nobody.
libertarian37 4 years ago
@libertarian,
I am not secretly hoping the US will lose for the simple reason that I (and many with me) knew that this is a war you cannot win.
I think that if we look 20 years from now we will see a completely torn apart Iraq. Either by civil war or divided into 3 or 4 separate little states, but I also don't rule out an islamic state like Iran.
The Middle East will be severely destabilized, a breeding ground for islamic fundamentalism.
What was it again ? Bringing Freedom to Iraq ?
mambo4269 4 years ago
And winning the hearts and minds you don't do when you wreck the car of a taxi driver because you think he stole some wood.
It is a nice video here on Youtube, but really to sick for words.
That is what you call 'good behavior' of the soldiers ?
mambo4269 4 years ago
@libertarian
And if you are in the military I am sure you will be able to find someone who can explain you what unconventional warfare means.
The only ones who ever one a war like that were the Brits, not because they used massive force.
They won, because they applied the rule 'winning the hearts and minds' to perfection.
mambo4269 4 years ago
I got out of the military in 2002. I now work as a terrorism analyst. I know what unconventional warfare means. We didn't use massive force in Iraq, that was the problem. And how dare you say we don't try to win the hearts and minds. I could school you on the reality here but I don't have the time, desire nor alloted comment space to do it. And it's the brits who fucked up the ME to begin with!! Why is it our problem?
libertarian37 4 years ago
Who ever started fuck it up a long time ago is not important. Important is that the US is AT THIS MOMENT fucking the ME up and that is something you tend to forget.
Iraq was stable after the GulfWar, Saddam was no longer a threat, there were no terrorists coming from that country. Saddam may not have been a friendly guy, but that is no reason to kick him out. Iraq was a sovereign state, should be respected.
mambo4269 4 years ago
@libertarian
You don't seem to realize that it is not a question IF the terrorists will strike, but more a question of WHEN they will strike.
The only way to fight this is not to try to stop it through military means, history has proven this will always fail.
The only way to stop it is to take the reason for terrorism away.
mambo4269 4 years ago
The reason for terrorism is that these angry men, inspired by Ibn Taymiya, Ibn Wahab, Sayyid Qutb, Bana and other of the Muslim brotherhood want to wipe out Israel and install a Muslim Caliphate.
درست هذه رجال و ادري اهميتهم يا مامبو
libertarian37 4 years ago
And in case you did not get it.
The amount of people you kill is not determining whether or not you are a war criminal. It is not something like: 'oh, it is only 50 people we murdered, so it doesn't count'.
And yes, there is a difference between 'collateral damage' and 'targeting civilians'.
Also Abu Graib is considered a war crime and again Bush is responsible.
mambo4269 4 years ago
You're right Mambo, let's just all give up and let the terrorists do as they please like they have for 35 years. It's really easy to armchair quarterback from the outside when you aren't involved, that's the difference between me and you.
libertarian37 4 years ago
@ libetarian,
Who says we are not involved ? Last time I checked we were still in Afghanistan and we have been in Iraq. And we also lost colleagues there.
Perhaps you did not notice, but over the last 25 years it was very quiet with Arab terrorism in Europe.
Only the US was constantly target of Arab terrorists and you should ask yourself WHY ?
mambo4269 4 years ago
@libertarian
The fact that you think the terrorists will ruin the world if you don't do what you're doing now basically says it all.
You don't realize that with this attitude you don't need terrorists at all, you will do the job for them.
Iraq is turned into rubble, same for Afghanistan. Now Bush has his visor on Iran and in the US Big Brother is watching everyone, but the borders are still wide open.
mambo4269 4 years ago
@Libertarian
And regarding Plame.
It does not matter how you want to call her, officer or secret agent. It is a crime to expose them and this crime has been committed by the Bush administration.
Of course I also know that Rove is probably behind it, this is his way of working. But Libby was involved as well and became the fall guy. He was convicted in a court of law and then received a pardon which showed complete disrespect for the laws of the US by the Bush administration.
mambo4269 4 years ago
Oh, you "know" Rove was behind it. Well, ok then, that's all you had to say.
libertarian37 4 years ago
If you would read well you would see the word 'probably' in that sentence. If you don't know what it means..........look it up.
Fact is that the name of Plame was leaked on purpose and that is a criminal offense in any which way you want to look at it. Can't make anything else of it.
mambo4269 4 years ago
Bush suspends habeus corpus for a man who planned to detonate a nuke in DC... How dare he!
libertarian37 4 years ago
You don't need to suspend Habeas Corpus for that . If you save a child from a burning house, do you think that you will be prosecuted for illegally breaking into a home? What you are saying is like it's ok to suspend laws regarding "illegal break-ins" because it might save children down the road.
iorr98 4 years ago
iorr98
What I am saying is that despite his flaws, George Bush has kept the USA safe from attack for 6 years by thwarting multiple attacks through tough policies, freed Aghanistan from the Taliban, ridded the world of Saddam, turned a miracle in Iraq with the surge, halted Irans nuke program in 2003, made Qaddafi give up his etc.. if a few eggs are broken, so be it
libertarian37 4 years ago
It's funny how I disagree on all of your points,
but mostly IMO the demand for attacking the US has increased as a result of bush's policies and I certainly don't feel safer, creating demand and thwarting supply is not sound policies. And in Iraq, we have rendered this country so dysfunctional that even the "insurgents" are not able to operate, that is quite an achievement.
iorr98 4 years ago
iorr98,
of course you disagree. If Bush says the sky is blue you'd say it's orange. There is no point, you hate him, fine. I couldn't care less. Thing is I don't see how you can disagree with facts. The US appeased terrorist entities for too long. Afg. achieved its objective and Iraq is getting better, but then again you probably hope the US loses in Iraq, which is pretty disturbing if true.
libertarian37 4 years ago
Listen libertarian37 don't even go there, this is not about me, our constitution is under attack, and you can't make any solid arguments defending your own point of view so now you're coming after me; "you probably hope the US loses in Iraq" " If Bush says the sky is blue you'd say it's orange" LOL I'm out of here.
iorr98 4 years ago
Ior98: I apologize, I didn't realize I was trying rationality on a woman, won't happen again.

Scooter Libby (and others above him) committed treason (exposing a secret agent of the US) and he is walking the streets again instead of spending the rest of his life in prison.
mambo4269 4 years ago 2
Mambo,
real crimes or crimes according to you? Bush never "freed" Libby. Libby wasn't indicted for that anyway, Armitage is the one who blabbed, he got in trouble for perjury. And the news exposes agency officers and programs every chance it gets. Plus Plame shouldn't have suggested her hubbie to go to Niger in the he first place. Your facts and arguments are weak.
libertarian37 4 years ago
@Libertarian
I did not make the laws in the US, but I apparently know them better than you.
It is a crime in the US to expose the identity of a secret agent. Whether you like or dislike Plame, she was an agent for the CIA and her identity was leaked on purpose by the Bush administration. That constitutes a crime, cannot make anything else of it.
mambo4269 4 years ago
@Libertarian,
I don't understand why you sing 'hosanna' over Iraq and Afghanistan.
Today the Aussies were ringing the alarm bell, so better check your facts.
mambo4269 4 years ago
And why is Bush a war criminal ?
As commander in Chief it makes Bush responsible.
mambo4269 4 years ago
1. we were at war with iraq since 1991, I am not going to explain every detail to you but 1441 look it up.
2. I am a veteran, widely is a ridiculous claim. we take GREAT care in NOT targeting civilians
3. Prisoners were not "tortured" at gitmo, waterboarding happened to two people in 2002-3.
libertarian37 4 years ago
Well, perhaps you are forgetting the little village where approximately 21 people were murdered by some soldiers who are now on trial for that.
And then we have the case against Blackwater and the list goes on.
But just the fact that Bush started this war is already enough to convict him. There was no authorization from any international organization, so it was an illegal war and that makes you a war criminal, whether you like it or not.
mambo4269 4 years ago
It's called a war, something you know little about. Do you talk to Iraqis and Afghanis? I do, they would disagree and so would all the dead al-qaeda folks. Do you even follow the news? Not getting anywhere? Pathetic statement.
libertarian37 4 years ago
@Libertarian
Again, check you facts before you comment.
mambo4269 4 years ago
For one, CIA doesn't have "secret agents", they are called officers. Her name was inadvertently leaked by Armitage not Libbey, he knew because it was widely known she was a CIA officer due to her marriage to ad hoc ambassador Joe Wilson. The court never found the Bush admin. guilty of leaking anything. You are very easily manipulated it seems. You know nothing of this case.
libertarian37 4 years ago
@Libertarian
First of all, you were never at war with Iraq. In 1991 it was the UN who authorized the operation against Iraq. It was also decided not to invade Iraq further then necessary and pull out of Iraq after the hostilities seized.
Please check your facts and history if you want to make comments. Makes you look rather foolish if you say these things.
mambo4269 4 years ago
Geez dude,
The UN authorized this reiteration of the first war with something called resolution 1441. Yes, the same UN that was taking millions of dollars in bribe money from Saddam Hussein. Rationalize your way out of that one.

mambo4269 4 years ago 2
mambo,
Keith Olberman is so biased and petty it makes my teeth itch... In regards to your black man comment. OJ simpson murdered two people and was let go, Scott Peterson, a white guy, murdered two people and was convicted, so by your logic Peterson was a victim of racism towards whites. Nice try using an exploitative, race card drawing straw man tactic though.

BTW Olberman is a lying scumbag too.

hehe too bad not a single person can come forward and say they have lost a right or any protection that the constitution provides..just keep repeating a bunch of bs..maybe someone will believe you..nonsense like this was just as bad when bill clinton lied under oath and the repubs went after him..ohh wait..it hasnt been proven this president has lied to anyone.

While i agree with everything he says, there is no need to present it in such a mocking and dramatised way. Olberman is much more powerful when speaking in truths and rhetoric. This was just the dramatisation of an important subject.

Its scary :S
Pk4You 5 years ago
Habeas Corpus basicly means that you have the right to say "WTF am Im doing hear!?", like if you are in prison or hidden somewhere by, oh lets say, superscary dudes in shiny costumes and dark sunglasses :)
vitaminsee 5 years ago
Well, if you had the education to spell properly (It should be "here", not "hear.") perhaps you wouldn't be so afraid of "superscary dudes in shiny costumes and dark sunglasses." ;) Unfortunately, Bush has been working hard on keeping Americans uneducated so he can have cheap labor for his refineries. ;)

These laws were good for all the previous presidents except for this trust fund baby! Bush is a neo-nazi-con and the Paris Hilton of presidents.

Imagine waking from a 7 year coma to what we have today. A person wouldn't recognize the country called the United States of America. Why are neo-cons so intent on making America a fascist state?

nagantm44 5 years ago
Well lets see In the name of the United States we spy on our own citizens now without court orders, we torture now and even the "Torture Bill and the Patriot Act make it law for Americans to be detained and deported as enemy combatants, we have a President who has signed hundereds of "Signing Statements of laws he feels he alone does not have to obey, they have paid and are paying so called journalist to write propoganda for their failed policies and the list goes on and on.
