  • No HANS?

  • gotta love no flappy panel gear box.

  • dont feel like checking all comments to see if i repeated myself...mansell won with williams in 1992. and if its the 91, Senna in mclaren. benetton didnt win till 94

if i'm the 8,000th person to tell you this than whoops, but that is a fact you should check before messing it up in the description mate.

  • that looks like the benetton from 1991

  • @SuperJimjim100 I guess that is the B191B, the modified version of the 1991 Benetton-Ford that has been used in the first three races of the 1992 season

  • @SuperJimjim100 Schumacher and Brundle drove for Benetton in 1992. Schumacher drove for Jordan in 1991 and that was only for 1 race in the season.

  • how does he shift?

  • @21scuderia With the gearstick and his right hand. And his left foot on the clutch pedal.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 1992 Benetton (or 1991 which seems to be the correct year after reading the comments) isn't a championship winning car? However, the Ferrari F1-2000 is.

  • listening to Brundle talk is around 1,000 times better than listening to Tiff Needell

  • benetton every time

  • THATS IN DONINGTON

  • The Benetton here isn't championship winning as is stated in your caption.

  • Ahh donington... the circuit of champions!

  • a 2000 Ferrari. Lolz at that.

    Next, a 2011 Ferrari vs a 1991 Benetton.

  • @MinistryOfSoundOldsk

2011 Red Bull vs 1954 Maserati

  • thats donnington isn't it?

  • I bet that old manual shift Benetton was flipping hard work driving an entire Grand Prix, phew!

  • Top man

  • Bring back the V10

  • Martin really is the best commentator. He has a real sense of what points are interesting and relevant to the viewer and such a wonderful delivery.

  • Going to be an annorack here, so am sorry, but Old Hall is at Oulton Martin, not Donington.

  • Schumacher's championship-winning 1992 car? Surely you mean his championship-winning 2000 Ferrari?

  • The Benetton on this video probably is from the 1991 season, because it uses a manual transmission. All 1992 cars used semi-automatic transmission.

  • @eriklima2 Not all cars. The bigger teams had it, but all of the smaller teams didn't. In fact, in 1993 there was still some cars running on manual gearbox.

  • Re: Description.

I don't know what parallel world you're in, but a man called "Nigel Mansell" won the 1992 Championship.

  • ok, the benetton is older and such, but its rear wing looks "flat-ish" like a low resistance spec for monza maybe...

  • @serginietor Spot on. They featured this in an old F1 Racing magazine I have and said that it had the Monza spec rear wing.

  • @Jazfonz haha, yep, it looked way to flat to be a standard-spec wing, i would like to see the difference between times with both cars on the same track spec.. the benetton wouldn't be as slow as it might seem...

  • @serginietor Tyres as well! The Ferrari was running on Avon control tyres from one of the junior categories, not the proper Bridgestones. Not sure about the Benetton

  • @Jazfonz looks like the benetton has proper slicks

    not sure either but..

  • Martin Brundle is the best at bringing the fantasy of Formula 1 to Reality!! He talks with such a love and respect for the unreal performance that F1 cars possess and makes it look easy, whgen we know its one of the most difficult things in the world to accomplish, cause as we all know Race car drivers are like Scientists!!

  • Two icons ingrained into Formula 1 tapestry: Ferrari, and Cosworth.

  • interesting comment about the gear changes in the benneton

  • Now THAT is an F1 car, better than the beds on wheels we have these days :(

  • Very good discusion, what about 1930s Grand prix superstar Nuvolari, who won 45 gp races, that was amazing in that time. He drove Autounion and mercedes car's witch in 1936 it had 660 bhp, and could go over 200 mph (320 km/h)

  • Brundle = legend.

  • Benetton raced the B191 for a few races in the beginning of the 1992 season as the B192 wasn't ready yet. That's how Martin raced this 91 model in 92.

  • Brundle is such a fucking champ.

  • The 1992 Benetton didn't win a championship....

  • I WAS THERE AT THE TRACK THAT DAY! OMG!!!. It was the annual Ferrari Day, this is in 2005, I was at Redgate, after this was the vintage Ferrari Grand Prix car, where lots of Ferrari F1 cars from the past 30 years had a race, the latest one was the 2001 ferrari, It was a great day out, I remember it so well, I even say murray walker, he commentated on a race there. Ahhh the benefits of living within 10 miles of a race circuit. But if you live in the midlands of the uk, and like ferraris, go there

  • @MegaMrDamo Yeah no one believes you.

  • Good on him looks like he enjoyed that.

  • how many races has he won? fuck all

  • haha the track where senna laps the whole field in the wet n pwnd 5 drivers in the 1st lap AAAAAHHHHH the memories xD

  • some of these comments are fcking stupid

so called armchair experts talking like they've driven these cars or thinking they are YouTubes answer to Adrian Newey.....

  • How many races did he win?

  • @bradgotch zero haha but he did get 2nd spot n podium circa 1991-1993 a few times n manage 2 team up with upcoming champion schumacher in benetton

  • Brundle is an absolute legend. Somebody knight the man.

  • and the benetton isnt a wc winning car. no big deal, just sayin

  • @porksniffer Jeeze man that was a bit harsh!! True, funny but harsh!!

  • "I feel like I'm part of the car like it's an extension of me. The car almost followed my thought process."....Translation......A MONKEY could drive today's modern F1 cars. I'm positive probably only 5 of todays F1 drivers would be able to drive the Benetton at its limits. The car would spit the rest out by the side of the track. Has Nico Hulkenberg or Lucas Di Grassi ever even seen a open wheeler with an H pattern manual gearbox, let alone shifted one???

  • A monkey? Come on now. Watch the vid of Richard Hammond trying to drive a modern F1 car. The aerodynamics that keep the car on the road, and the tyres that need to be warm for the same reason, only come into play when you're doing serious speeds which the average Joe wouldn't be skilled or bold enough to acheive and thus keep the car on the road. You also need to be incredibly physically fit and have the reactions of a house fly.

  • I agree on the fitness part, but you needed to be even more fit driving an early 90's F1 car. Have you seen the vibrations on those things? A Monaco race distance required over 3000 gear changes and driving the car 1/2 way around the lap with ONE hand. Not too mention they probably had 1/2 the down force of today's cars. And don't forget the flat bottoms. I'm simply saying they'd never drive it anywhere near it's limits, assuming they keep it out of the kitty litter.

  • the vibrations are even worse in modern cars... it's just the cameras in the 90s made it look worse than what it was...

physically, today's cars would be a much harder assault on the body than anything from the 90s...

brundle drove the 07 williams saying it felt like his lungs were htting the inside of his ribs and he couldn't even hold his breath under braking, if that's not difficult then i don't know what is...

  • lol...Ok, maybe a bit harsh. But don't take it from me, just listen to Brundle.. He sounds much more stressed and tired driving the Benetton...."this car is very heavy on the steering wheel....you always have to think about the time it takes to get down the gearbox..it such a big part going into the corners." I still say a Buemi or a DiGrassi wouldn't keep this on the road for more then a few laps. lol

  • @porksniffer

I agree with you about the older Grand Prix machines, much more concentration is needed. But you speak as though you have driven a modern Grand Prix car... Have you?

  • @JayRicci7891

LOL...No I haven't. Do I need to drive an F1 car to state the obvious? I've driven 125cc shifter karts several times. I've also been to every Canadian GP since 1985. I've watched the sport since 1980. I think that's enough to make an observation. This video shows me which car is harder to drive. The turbo era cars were even harder to drive. But hey, no one has to agree. I've seen enough of F1 the past 25 years to draw my own conclusion.

  • @porksniffer

Thats fair enough, but dont you think 125cc kart is a bit different to a 750HP Grand Prix car? I just felt your first comments on the current cars and drivers was a bit harsh. I mean, do you expect the cars to be the same as they were 20 years ago? Technology and safety evolves and F1 has changed dramatically because of it. Todays drivers cant help that. But dont get me wrong, I'd much prefer for the drivers to have much more input with the car does aswell :-)

  • @porksniffer sooo i guess youve driven a modern f1 car? otherwise how could you tell how hard it is to drive one?

  • @mrzomg99 Buddy, I don't need to drive a modern F1 car to know that driving ANYTHING with an H pattern gearbox, clutch and very little downforce requires much more effort than an automatic with flappy paddles and increased downforce of modern F1 cars. Driving that Benetton in Monaco would require 4000 MANUAL gear changes. Pretty hard work if you ask me.

  • Ive searched ages to find this. Brilliant stuff. Thanks for sharing

  • schumacher didnt win the championship in 1992

  • sorry, but its the Benetton from 1991....

  • Yeah this is my fault I need to change the name of the video to update the year of the Benetton. It was uploaded some time ago. I forgot all about it , now 32,000 veiws later. Not bad

  • @darrenmaharaj And also Schumacher never won championships before 94.

Sorry if someone pointed it out already

  • @darrenmaharaj Great video thanks :D But this Benetton won no championships I believe :P

  • @darrenmaharaj also he first won the championship in 1994

  • @darrenmaharaj This is the 1992 Benetton. The B191 was used by Benetton in both seasons.

Also your caption which states "Championship winning" is wrong. Schumacher and Benetton won their first drivers championship together in 1994.

  • @wks1978 Yes because MSC only won when senna was out of the way... quite literally. And Prost and Mansell for that matter.

  • @BlackMagic11281 it was the 1991 benetton that was also used for the 1st 3 races of the 1992 season

  • @BlackMagic11281 He clearly says that he raced the car in '92...

  • @muulka Thats right. But only for 2 or 3 Races. It was the B 191B. But the car for the 1992 season was the B192 with a high nose.

  • @BlackMagic11281 I was still right =P

  • @BlackMagic11281 um.....no, it's the 1992 Benetton. Brundle raced for them in 1992, when Schumacher did not win the championship. He did, however, win his first race in the car.

  • the last F2000 was estimated at 1.1 and 1.5m euro, so its worth a little bit more. That was a Schumacher car though, a Barrichello one can be bought for around 800K ish....

  • A very talented man; much under-rated as a driver but a supreme broadcaster

  • I'd venture to say Martin Brundle is far more famous and respected now then he was in his F1 days. I'm certainly a big fan!

  • Martin Brundle is a legend!

  • I love Martin's delivery and sense of humor.

  • Yes of course, well done I have not really looked at the visor for some time. It's probably worth more than a million by now.

  • Has he got a million yet?

  • A million what?

  • He says "all I've got to do now is find a million quid and buy this car"

  • @darrenmaharaj a million quid! (English Pounds - a rough 'guess-timate' of the price for the car!

  • @darrenmaharaj Quid, to buy the ferrari! although, id imagine in 2011, he'd need a lot more than a million!

  • Yeah, he must do by now, maybe not in cash, but certainly in assets. He must have earned a fair bit in his F1 days, but not too much, but add that to his long commentating career he will have earned well over a million. Plus any extra things he does like magazine interviews, writing, other programmes etc. (£ GBP)

  • What r u on about..!?

  • I'm sorry, do you honestly expect me to believe you watch F1 from that statement?

  • benneton b192 did not win a championship, the 1994 b194 was the first to do so in the hands of schumi.

  • Nice work. keep it up. mean time come for social media marketing for esteembpo**com LK'LK

  • the f2000 didnt have traction control that came bk in in 2001 at the spanish grand prix

  • If I could choose between the two, I'd rather drive the Benetton. The Ferrari F2000 for all it's technical sophistication really looks boring. The Benetton's simplicity is much more attractive to me, No computers no traction control, No semi automatic gear box. Just pure seat of your pants race car.

  • Awesome video, amazing difference in handling between the two cars.

  • Martin Brundle is such awesome man.

  • I agree. You just gotta love watching and listening to him when he's driving these machines.

  • I alwaysed loved the Benettons from 1992 and 1993. The Camel sponsorship paint scheme and raised nose set that car apart from all others on the grid. Schumi won at Spa in 1992 and Estoril in 1993 in those cars

  • Brundle is incredible at doing this stuff, you know he unofficially equalled the lap record on this run (58sec at the time)

  • Mallamoozoo, you should find something to live for.

  • i love both cars...one has got really good mechanical grip (tires etc..) the other has great aerodynamic grip (front/ rear main planes) both great cars but different eras..

  • Schumacher didn't win a championship in 1992.

  • Comment removed

  • whats ur point

  • Amazing to think that even the new V8 powered cars are up to 6 seconds a lap faster than the 2000 Ferrari. Wow.

  • love the sound of the ford v8

  • MAnsell won in Williams, not in Benetton

  • brundle was with benetton in 1992

  • Williams won in 1992 - Mansell won the drivers championsip

  • this video has nothing to do with Mansell about 1992 - so whats ur point

  • i LOVE the way that benetton sounds, especially onboard...the Ferrari is ok too xD

  • Micheal Schumacher's championship winning 1992 Benetton Ford?

MS didn't win the title that year...

  • but he won a races with it....

  • races= one race in rain in spa ;)

  • ohhhh, aight, thought he won also at portugal that year but wasnt really sure...XD

  • that was in 1993

  • One of the better pieces of analysis ITV have done in their time

  • Schumacher was leading the 93 Monaco GP until mechanical failure. But as Alan Jones said after the race; "Bad luck for Schumacher, but I still think Senna probably would have won anyway - he was playing it smart all the way"

  • This comparison is a interesting one, to show how tech evolves in f-1, for the curious viewer.Bloodytv86, just sit back and enjoy.

  • we can't compare two different cars built within 8 years engineering development far

  • yes you can, and martin brundle just did. Better thinking, you cant, martin can.

  • ok so why don't u compare a lamborghini with a fiat punto?

  • sure, one is fast and the other is slow... they are both italian.

  • they are both italian......so? what of this?

  • Try to compare the rules and the level.

B191 was not as competitive as 2000 Ferrari.

Rule have changed so much since the 1991 project.

  • Cough* Schumacher also drove the benneton, I believe one year at Monaco Michael, was beating Ayrton at Monaco (in those OLD cars) by some distance.. does anyone remember that and then what happened? Michael's engine blew and Ayrton won... o ye forgot to mention Michael also held off Prost tha year at Estoril (im not saying Michael was better than Senna but he was a match)

  • You are talking about Monaco 1993, Schumacher driving his Benetton filled with electronics and tc and drivers's aid. He blew up while leading, sure, but Senna is the superior driver, he is the all time master of Monaco.

  • haha, fairplay son you just told me lol ill admit that

  • And if you have to see a shitty movie to be able to see the diferences and realize them, you should just shut up! Moron!Since when do i have to see a stupid video like this to know the diference??? Kill yourself!

  • Just type this in the search box;

    Formula 1 drifting

  • Type; Formula 1 drifting and watch how hard the cars were to control in the 80's. Now they have accelerometer and gyroscopic sensors that react 10 times faster than human reflexes and control the car automatically. F1 is dead. It is just an engineering competition - driving skill is irrelevant. I'd rather watch go-kart racing now - at least it's raw and pure.

  • Now that's what i'm talking about! Ferrari, against a what? No comparison. Listen how quiet the Ferrari sounds, compared to that clunker the Benetton. He even put the Benetton down.

  • it supports the argument that Senna as way better than Schumacher. as brundle said "the modern guys get paid too much - the cars are so easy to drive." "In my day the cars the cars tried to bite - now they pave your way for you" AND "Senna had a greater god-given talent than Schumacher" and "Senna was the best driver i ever raced against". Senna kicks ass on Schu and all the rest. And the whole world knows it (outside germany)

  • You are sooooo right mallamoozoo, Senna was and still is the best that ever was...:)

  • err...what are you basing this on? senna was the best of his generation, and that is all you can say. what was senna like in a 1955 Maserati? what was he like at driving a 1980 ground effects car up against niki lauda?

btw, if you asked 100 motor racing experts/drivers et al who was the best of all time, the majority of them would say Jimmy Clark! The highest start win ratio of anyone

apart from Fangio and the 'Maestro' said himself that Clark was the greatest.

  • fair comment about senna and jimmy but everyone sees to jump on the senna bandwagon. You havent done that btw, but so many just say "SENNA IS THE GREATEST, EVERYONE ELSE IS SHIT!!!!" and im tired of it. Thank god you have have said you love senna (somewhere in my top 5 ever defo) but mentioned someone else, ie jimmy clark. It just seems so fashionable for everyone to love Senna when Mansell, Piquet, Prost, and Rosberg etc were in their own way arguably just as good from his generation.

  • Lol, what im trying to say is that so many people who think they know F1 just blindly say Senna (or anyone else like Prost or Schuey) was the best without a justification. In case your wondering, my fave from that era was Mansell for his legendary charges in the Ferrari, but Senna was definitely better. Better than Prost tho, thats debatable (50-50 in my opinion, tho i liked senna more)....I wonder if we will ever see a rivalry like that ever again. If only Alonso had stayed at McLaren......

  • just because the modern cars are easier to drive it doesn't mean that the drivers have less talent. are you aware that formula 1 has been around since 1950? and before that it was known just as grand prix racing. what characteristics did senna possess that made him a better driver than caracciola? i eagerly await your reply.

  • I think it does. When you compare the drivers of today, now way do they have the talent of the drivers of the 80's and 90's. Villeneuve.snr Jean Alesi, Michael schumacher, senna, prost, even mansell , nannini and berger were netter thjan most of the drives today.

Put it this way, in 2007 they had traction contorol AND ABS. they kept the ABS thing quiet as it didn't work on the front wheels, but it stopped them spinning when braking late into corners. TOO EASY ANYNE COULD DO IT!!

  • there is no argument. full stop. F1 is the top level of motorsport and hence people are put there because they are top level drivers. Regardless of how hard the cars are to drive, people are put in the car because they know how what to do with em. The cars of 20 years ago may have tested a driver more but thats all.

  • I completely agree with you mate. Nouvolari, Fangio,Clark, Gilles Villenueve, Piquet etc are every bit as talented, fast and good to watch as modern day drivers. One thing though, cars are easier to drive today! are they? Older generations had less downforce but the older drivers had less forces (ie G-Forces etc) acting on them. Something to think about. I thik they are all brilliant.

  • Great response to zoodude...i always here the argument Senna...Schu..etc..but we will never know..different times and different cars

  • @timickan well he had a more flat out driving style and was ridiculously more daring than caracciola, however caracciola was nevertheless, extremely great behind the wheel. You mabye right about what you say, and you are but there is no need to bee a complete dickhead about it

  • Look, i think you missed completly my point... i dont give a damn if driver x or y drives an old F1 car and a new one, just to waste some gas and just for his only fun! My point is: Yeah, ok Martin Brundle, so what??? What a hell did you shown us that important??? That a 1991 F1 is a completly obsolete machine comparing to a machine that is 8 years old?!?!?? This is pathetic!

  • Ok, you have your opinions, that's fine, I have mine...have a nice day.

  • Yeah, a nice day to you too.

  • It was a demonstration to show how car F1 technology has moved on. If you don't have the mental ability to grasp that then please stop watching F1 altogether.

  • shit, another F1 stuff hijacked by mallamoozoo the Senna maniac ... what the hell does this clip has to do with the late Senna?

u always bring up Senna in stuff unrelated 2 him ...

    GODDDDDDDD

  • Wrath? Dont be an ass... jeepee27, if you cant take others opinions, thats your problem, not mine! Videos like this are pointless, like the other were Martin tries to show in a Red Bull car driving styles of drivers in a DRY gp, in a silverstone WET track! Pathetic! If you cant see this and have orgasm with shit like this, you really are a master in F1 or driving knowledge...

  • Look,BallisticEVA01, in this demo, I think that it's mainly aimed at the weekend curious who does not know f-1 like you or me. Educational material i would call it .I know my f-1, and I found this nostalgic, Brundle was there in the b192 in 92, and it made me feel good to see that car with him driving again, it's all in good fun, what do you think? LOL.

  • This is Bullshit... The B191 is a 1991 F1 car and Brundle RACED the B192 instead in 1992... the own driver doesnt know what car he did drove... what a joke! And OF COURSE a 1991 car is completly inferior to a 2000 car! HP is completly diferent, plus tyres, suspensions, brakes, etc, etc... this video is, once again, irrelevent, nothing that we already know... good was to put the two cars racing one another at the track to actually SEE properly the diference...

  • Why don't you just sit back and enjoy this instead of babbling away your wrath.

  • Sorry to disappoint you, but the B192 was only introduced at the start of the European season in 1992. Martin Brundle raced the B191 at the South African, Brazilian and Mexican races and before the start of the season he would have tested extensively in the B191, as he actually said...

  • i wanna be a ITV commentator!!! :D

  • thats one of the early 2000 cars the championship car from the last 3 rounds sits in michael schumachers garage

  • i view this reportege in the F1 Racing, the best!

  • The Engine Sound of Benetton 93 is great i love it, old times in Formula 1

  • It is great to hear him talk about the car AS HE IS DRIVING IT!! LOL He is great.

  • Excellent! Sir Martin is a legend!

  • The track where F1 hosted there in '93
