I actually once helped an enemy spy stab a friendly teammate (SHUT UP! I WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION!) And the same assist thing happened to me, said I was on blu when I was on red...
I think the Spy is definitely meant to be French. The fact that his French is pretty bad is just part of the comedy of TF2. I'm from Quebec so I know what I'm talking about.
Did you try the logical extension of this: BLU Pyro airblasts RED Scout's ball at a BLU teammate? What if the Scout and airblasting Pyro are on the same team? So many combinations to try...
Also, the video is over a year old... does airblasting a Scout's ball still work?
im spanish and i love tf2 the first time i played it i said "this is freaking awesome" (in spanish of course). im trying to buy it at all cost but everytime i go to a game store they say that it is sold out. I will get it no matter what
@Treblaine The Spy character in English TF2 is not even French, well if he is, he really has a bad grammar. Anyway, TF2 French dub really sucks just like any French dub of any of the Source games. Ironically, the best French dub Half-Life has ever had was Half-Life 1 itself. That's why quite a bunch of the French TF2 players actually play with the English voices, since some dub are completely missing from the recent class updates.
@Hurricaaane Yeah, I guess Spy's nationality was never specifically named, maybe he's Belgian... or Swiss. Or maybe he's voiced by an American with a bad accent :D XD
I was wondering because I heard Russia got a quality dub, then again Russia is a really lucrative PC market (something to do with limited console market)
@madguy228 I'm French, I know what I'm talking about. Okay, true that the Spy speaks French and Spanish (and English to communicate with the team), but he can't possibly be a native French since he speaks with a very bad grammar (heard especially at the end of Meet the Spy, which uses French words but uses the wrong gender for the possessive pronoun -- In this sentence "My little cauliflower", cauliflower being a "cute" name, even if we speak of a woman, "cauliflower" is a male noun).
@Hurricaaane I always thought that the Spy was a british(Gentelmen,Backbitter hat).Just think it that way,he's a spy from Scotland Yard for example, lives many years abroad(like 30),preferably France, lost his british accent but kinda got a new one, french or as you say he doesnt has a french one,he might have a mix of british-french...a brench one :P
@Hurricaaane Most of the disparitys is that the dubs are normally done by french canadian speakers, in the case of north american developed games. Also the fact that the english versions spy dialog for french was written by a person who in all honesty couldn't speak french to save his life. Myself I was in french emersion growing up, when on a trip to France I had a fair ammount difficulty despite being raised to speak both languages. Though sounding quite similar it was completely different.
@Hurricaaane lol, i dont speak french, but i think its supposed to sound like it. its exactly like the medic. everybody thinks, he speaks german, but actually... it sounds really stupid. these schweinhunds.
I remember seeing a video in which a scout ball was deflected and killed him, but the pyro and the enemy scout with the ball got kill credit for killing the enemy scout
If it hits you and the pyro that deflected it kills you then it say (Pyro name) + (your name) (icon for however they killed you) (your name). For example: the pyro is bob, Bob + Freecell82 (died by tauntkill) Freecell82. So you can help kill yourself.
@Freecell82 yes you can it works with the medic if you heal enemy spy and he backstabs one of your teammates you get assist and you can dominate him and he cant take revenge
28% of students in France secondary schools have a suitable level according to an ETS Global September 2009 study.
My own opinion is that it's true, French students are really bad in English. If you find French-English speakers on Internet English websites, it's most likely that they can read it, thus they have a certain level to actually care about spelling (choose the right word in the checkspell), and do their best at grammar, without being perfect.
I'm learning Spanish in school as my third language; I could have chosen French but figured Spanish may be more useful as it is spoken somewhat more widely.
The second language I'm learning is my own NATIVE language.. Irish, as very few people in Ireland are actually fluent in it, let alone native speakers.
I've never really had an issue with French people or the language itself but when I hear people speaking it I like to joke and say "All I hear is 'We surrender!'".
I've had a English class last week, and we ran across all different kind of stereotypical views of populations seen from other countries. For example, we've watched a documentary about France visit to the Queen upstream, and the news reporter said that we (French people) call Nicolas Sarkozy, our current president, "Sarkozy the American". Our English teacher commented that : "Anyone of you heard of Sarkozy the American here ?". We never did.
I've been in English classes, and really, the skills of French students in English-speaking classes is awful.
I don't mean I'm good at English, I know I make mistakes but few enough so that we can understand, but really. When you're good enough at English, when you look at a classmate writing something in English, really, it's a grammatical rape, more than everything you could see.
Even our ministers in government don't give a good example.
Hey i think your better at typing english than most the english i know (i live in england btw ^_^) half of the time i cant even understand what there saying xD
Yeah, but I don't see the lack of speaking english as really annoying or frustrating. I'm not likely to ever learn a different language than english. Why would I force other people to learn something that isn't their native language?
I think there was a 'reportage' about how foreigners think about French. There's quite a bunch of analysis on the subject, several articles can be found on Google about that.
But if we stick to the language, English is the language of the Internet in my own opinion. If I look at my YouTube Insight (Statistics), France is not even where my viewers come from. All my viewers are from English-speaking countries. There is really an advantage into speaking English on the Internet.
He, I'm a Dutchie. French is just one out of the 4 languages we learn. Basically every country in the world 'forces' the kids to learn multiple languages. Except English speaking countries. Come on, learn at least 1 extra language, like Spanish ?
After you managed to get by in any language you only see the advantages. I "get by" in French, I mastered English and I'm pretty good at German.
So, about "unfair": I see it more like unfair that I got a secret language you cannot understand :-P
Ehhhhh. I wish I had some aptitude for languages. It might seem odd because it isn't my fault that it's that way, but i actually feel bad about english being kind of the language everyone has to learn. Like, I feel like a jackass for having english as the first language I learned and as a result not having to learn others while people who have a different native language have to learn at least two.
It's not just you. I suck at learning languages, really! I was taught English at school for 4 years, and my grades were at 35%. Years later I mastered English.
All it takes is effort and some motivation. Now I'm even learning Japanese. Why? Because it's fun to learn :-P
But from an outsiders view: Yes, people will think you're a jackass because you are a native English speaker, but only because that's all you speak. Learn 1 more language and you will never hear that again.
Actually, in the Americas if you want to get into a good college they often force you to take a single language for well over 3-4 years in high school. Even elementary schools are getting into the habit of teaching Spanish and other foreign languages.
See that's my problem. I have heritage in Europe ( 1st generation=me), but one thing is when you are grown up in Europe, learning European styles of language learning and another if you are born and raised in the Americas.
And the "real" internet language is ... you guessed it, Chinese. But I don't think many people will learn that, especially not native English speakers :-P
I find learning different languages very cool, as your possibilites for travel are expanded (in ways). I speak 2 langages (English + French) and I can sorta read spanish.
But the best language for travel is sign-language XD

Sadly, even you French can never beat the Brittish stereotypes against Dutch people.....
You don't believe me ? Grab a extended English-English dictionary and look up the word "dutch". then count how many of those words are positive.
Examples are: the Dutch act, Dutch wife, Dutch mirror, Dutch nightingale, double Dutch, etc...
This is not a rant, it's just funny to see how badly the old British hated the old Dutch :-P

Anyway, that's kind of funny. Did they fix this yet?
Sparky245678 2 years ago
Why people hate French ? There are several reasons, although of course highly generalised:
- They can speak English, they just refuse to
- They can speak German (or at least understand it) but choose to refuse to
- French is a very fast speaking language, making it hard to learn for born English speakers.
But like I said, that's a lot of generalisation. Not all are like that.
