  • Ugh... That was one tough game. There's one other thing it was, too... FUN!

Recognizer... ftw. (I love the electronic glass breaking sound when somebody gets destroyed, too.)

  • >Red Tron sprite

    Is this a Rinzler game?

  • Gotta love how those Intellivision men run

  • for the monster screen at the end of the trick was to kill from below

  • haha just got this today :)

  • How long did you have to play to get to this score?

  • There's something wrong with the graphics. The recogniser should be red. Not transparent.

  • My dad used to have the world record score for this game (back in the 80s I believe). He got in a magazine or something. I think the score was 13 million.

  • the orange dudes came out at 1,000,000

  • @4insomniac20 ... Those orange guys were insane.

  • Best game ever. They chase you with sticks at the top level. You can get the console and the game on eBay still. I have 2 of everything.

  • Excellent! this was such a playable game! I won an Intellivison console and 2 Tron games when this came out! Thanks for the flashback :)

  • WHOA! Not at all like I remember!!! This is amazing. Thanks for posting...sure brings back memories from when I was a little boy.

  • These were cutting-edge graphics for 30 years ago. The only thing I loathed about Intellivision was that damn controller.

  • I remember playing this game in my room when I was supposed to be doing my homework. LOL

  • i spent hours and hours playing this game as a kid. this was the first game i ever scored a million pts on

  • The 2600 version is way better.

  • if i could only use one word to describe those discs, it would be "awesome." No, wait, "deadly," yeah, that's it.

I love the fact that with those old-school games you really knew you were playing a computer game. New games are great, too, but they're so realistic they lose some of that charm. Course, that's probly just cause i'm getting old. Why, back in my day...

  • 3:20 Counter-Pwned(I'm too cheap!).

  • 3:09 Pwned.

  • 2:27 My shoe!

  • I liked it when it made room for extra digits after 100,000.

  • i dont get how this would be fun right know

  • is this recorded gameplay footage from a system or a gay emulator? Because emulators are for poor people.

  • Damn! I'm getting old.. some 25 years ago TRON was my fav game... glad to see it revitalized with the new movie :)

  • i love when he throws the disc!

  • I had this game when I was tiny and would play NON-STOP. When I found out it was based on a movie, I ended up seeing said movie no less than 29,849,853 times.

  • Great game. My record was 13 million points and I played like 20 hours. I remember playing for 5 hours straight, take a break and keep going for another 5 hours. At the end I got tired and stopped without getting kill. I understand someone made 100 million points with this version anyway those we re good memories :) since Intellivision was my real first game console. I just saw the new movie Tron legacy but some some reason I still like most the first one.

  • TRON 3D :)

  • Wow! This brings back memories from my teen years. Fairly simple game but it was a lot of fun.

  • Intellivision had quite a few good games actually, Snafu, Baseball, Horse Racing, Blackjack, Tron Deadly Discs, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, Burgertime and many others. I was still playing this up until I got a Nintendo in 1990. I completely passed over the Atari for my Intellivision which I still break out and play today every now and again. Sure these games like TDD aren't as good as say... Call of Duty or Halo of today, but for their time they were just as exciting as games are today.

  • I would like to get a copy of the disc with this on it for my old dreamcast. Does it have the other TRON games?

  • One of the best games ever made on the Intellivision! Hands down.

And Tron Legacy is coming out on Midnight Friday and I doubt it will have the games that will live up to Tron Deadly Discs, Discs Of Tron (arcade) and the standard Tron arcade game.

I'll look at them with an open mind though.

  • Loved this game when I was a kid. Loved it.

  • I eventually made it to the million points and got the guys with the white sticks who would paralyze you instantly when they touched you

  • still go this game and the intellivision.. How did they made those "trons" so unpredictable is impressive. BTW is this the emulator? it seems to move smoother than the original

  • hopefully that game will be remade after the new tron legacy movie

  • This was one of the most thought out and playable games ever.

    One of my all-time favourites.

    I still have the cartridge!

  • @uriituw Heheh... do you still have the system? :) If not, as you can see, the Dreamcast has this nailed the emulation. :)

  • @doctorclu Yup! I have it along with a couple of dozen games! It still worked last time I checked. :)

  • @doctorclu Hmmm how does that work exactly? I still happen to have a dreamcast in my closet. :)

It'd be amazing to get some intellivision emulator going... or is there one for PC aswell? :)

  • is that the new ps3 title there?

  • It was one of my favorites intelevision games.

  • @Tarwater03 Shattering a disc IS awesome. Kinda a neat sound effect. Can you imagine making video game sounds then? You program the pitch, length, and effect. No real sampling, and if you did sampling it was to figure out maybe the pitch, length... which you had to manually create and tweek.

  • woah, look at those state of the art graphics, I wish my Xbox 360 had graphics this good

  • @ultimatebman Remember this game came out in I believe 1981... about 29 years ago. While maybe not the Halo 2 (using that example since you mentioned Xbox 360) of it's time, it was still a highly loved game for Intellivision owners. And in truth it is the only reason I keep an Intellivision around.

  • @doctorclu I know, it looks like fun, but me and a lot of my friends have a running gag where we will say this on old games.

  • @doctorclu I know, me and my friends have a running gag where we will post this on old game videos, and ps, Halo 2 was for the Xbox, not the 360, you are think of Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, Halo Wars, and Halo: Reach (I am a big Halo Fan, so I am quick to correct on that subject lol)

  • @doctorclu No worries, We were experiencing the Pioneering years of video games and witnessed the evolution since then while ultimatebman was still swimming in daddy's balls.

  • @ultimatebman Of course your xbox 360 has better graphics, the real question is will people still want to play the games it has in 20+ years?

  • @HereticJutah relax, I am not hating on the intellivision, and yes, people will probably want to play some of the gamess of the 360 in 20+ years

  • @ultimatebman Are you one of those kids who has their senior pictures taken with their game system?

  • @MrGrevy I will, mark my words...

  • @ultimatebman LOL that would rock

  • @ultimatebman: Blablabla!! Thumbs down man, go clean you diapers. Your fancy console is dated soon anyway and no-one will ever remember that Xbeaux and it's games in the way like people do with the first gameconsoles. All videogame classics are treasured these days. By many. That won't happen to games like Halo.

  • @ultimatebman Actually, for the early 80s, the gameplay and graphics are pretty darn good. There's a real charm to the sound effects as well.

  • @peterp21 does no one understand sarcasm anymore?

  • @ultimatebman You might be better off wishing for your pubes to grow in first

  • @mikecsiy Goddammit. Can no one take a fucking joke!?!

  • This was one of the best Intellivison games + Tron Solar Sailer.

  • the name of the emulator is? thaks

  • @SagaDanRn IntellivisionDC I believe. Normally Zophar's Domain is good with the emulators for the Dreamcast, and might be featured there somewhere as well. But I found this one on dcisozone.

  • I loved this game. I remember I managed to damage the Recognizer a few times...

  • "S**t the f**k" AVGN reference.

  • @1989gamemaster Oh did the Angry Video Game Nerd burst another blood vessel needlessly?

  • this was my favorite intellivision game...

  • That's Tron... He fights for the Users.

  • That little trick using the doors make you invulnerable if you leave half your body in. I scored 16 billion points (yes, billion) and my Intellivision console fried. I was very upset. After 1 million points you would mostly get the orange guys with paralysing sticks so you had to switch door very fast to avoid him to come from behind. Very cool game.

  • @Rombizio There is a trick where you can block discs and gain tons of points as well.

When the orange guys came out you definitely had to ensure you:

    A) Did not hang around the doors when a new enemy would be released

    B) Not be hit by a disc

I rocked that game as well.

  • You also Play very Bad!!!!

  • @kaiser18591 Ummm... sure, make a video and show us how you play. Oh, and try to do what I did having to remember button combos on the Dreamcast controller.

  • @kaiser18591 i am so sorry not to indulge you, but when i was from four to ten years old, i remember played it, until the oranges men, having good times in the past!!

  • Man.. just hearing those sounds again gave me goosebumps.

    Tron was an awesome game.

  • @dxhumph Very much agreed!

  • somtimes i wish this easy times of fun would come back

  • @Modwulf I think in many ways video game companies try to make games that push the envelope, and then games that are tried and true in the retro fashion. Both are fun. Then again, fighting with discs in TRON 2.0 was a blast in Doom fashion. :)

  • so true :)

  • was it that fun?

  • Just the idea of being in an arena, fighting with the discus way of fighting, using it as a shield to block, just good action (for 1980). ;)

  • @pockle228 oh yes it was!

  • reminds me of the good old days

  • you were ghosted lol

  • I used to play this game for hours and hours!

  • Me too. :) What did you like about it?

To me the disc fighting was one of the coolest aspects of the movie (and one I wish they did more with) ;)

  • I remember scoring really high in this game by just sitting in the corner and blocking all the thrown discs. Of course, I didn't know about the guys with the deadly sticks, so I lost almost immediately when the first one entered. It was fun though!

  • Nice eh? Yeh luckily I was forewarned by friends.

  • i remember if you get 1 million points you get the orange guys with the white sticks , one touch and ya dead !

  • hello again. Sorry to bother you, but I was watching a show on tv about old arcade games and world records on those and there was a intellivision game that I liked a lot. The name was Tron Deadly disc and I saw you upload a video. I was just wondering who has the highest score? When I played the game I went up to 13 millions points and it took me several hours to get there and I think I have an old polaraid picture to prove it but I even know how to beat it if I have to

  • Not sure on that one. But 13 mil is the highest score I've ever heard of.

  • My dad was a MASTER at this game back in the day...he had a score of 18 million once...we hated to press the reset button afterwards...wish we had a camera handy to take a photo of it...

  • Hello there. I was an avid fan of Tron Deadly disc on intellivesion. Do you know what the world record is on this game??? I made around 13 million points I even past those 2 orange players to other 2 types of pair which were far fastest and stronger (even stronger than tron himself) I remember it took me several hours to achive that score

  • @RGS1970 are you saying there is another kind of fighters after the guards? (orange guys) I thought they where the last the CPU send after you

  • There is one like tron that wasnt tron - like with the bikes. Called Snafu, it was a really good clone.

  • Which is the version of the Intellivision Tron game set in the maze?

  • Sounds like TRON Maze-A-TRON. Never got into that or TRON Solar Sailor. But at least TRON Solar Sailor had voice and Bit saying yes or no. :)

  • Maze-A-TRON. Thanks!!

That game was a complete mystery.

I'd like to see someone put it up on youtube and show how to play the damn thing!

  • Once, I sat in the lower right corner of the screen in this game and score over 20 million points just breaking their discs with my shield.

  • This was one of our favorite games. My late brother and I would play this for hours. We both managed to reach 1 million points more than once. It wasn't easy. I wish I kept the Intellivision. I sold it after my brother died. Too many memories. I can't wait to see the new film coming out in2010 or 2011. Late.

  • I remember being so jealous of this version because it had a recognizer and the Atari 2600 one didn't.

  • mi juego favorito de la infancia... a pesar de que la mecanica es sencilla enganchaba y mucho... de vez en cuanto los rejuego en el emulador nostalgia.

  • Not quite the same as playing it off the original hardware, but works for me. :)

  • Did anyone ever figure out how to play Maze-a-tron?

  • I loved this game.

The orange guys with the sticks at a million, I always thought I was so amazing getting that far.

  • LOL @ 1:41. Wrong way dude

  • :) The Dreamcast controller setup is ODD when using them for the direction of the disc. Since the DC controller has few buttons they use button combos. I keep saying someday I'll graft a intellivision controller to a DC controller (much like I did a 2600 controller to a DC controller)

  • I spent HOURS on this game. I loved it. Be great if it was updated.

  • Indeed. Great game. I think part of its charm is that it is so simple.

  • Spent many hours playing this game when it first came out on Intellivision. The doors were the best feature of the game, not to mention getting frozen underneath that big red creature which closes the doors Tron jams open, as well as getting hit by white and brown disks.

  • The variety of disc was a good feature. Looking at the whole TRON mythos and what they had to work with, (and the fact this was being developed before the movie came out) they did a great job. Not too far away from what we saw in the movies, and yet logical progression in weapons.

  • I wish someday someone revive this game for the ps3 or xbox with better graphics, more kinds of warriors, different kinds of recognizers, discs upgrades...I have tons of ideas but I am too triso to be a programmer.. DAMN! LOL!!!!!

  • What did you think of TRON 2.0? Has everything you described. That was for the PC, Mac, I believe X-box not sure.

  • I was joking, it's is just funner on the Intv..

  • Your score only counts if you play this on the real game system with the real game.

  • Oh really. Show me the ruling where it says that? Believe it or not many high score clubs count games played in Emulation.

  • I was joking, it's funner and harder on the Intv though..

  • This game and Nightstalker were the BEST games Intelly ever came out with...

  • I remember this game; that red thing that came out once in a while was a son-of-a-bitch to hit.

  • As a kid I liked to press the disc release button and pretend I was farting. Very funny sound effects in all of these games. I new I was fucked when that damn red thing would come out.

  • As a kid I used to pretend I was farting when I would press the side button to release the disc. I could never hit that red fucker that comes out once in awhile though. I remember a lot of these games and those sound effects are unforgettable. Not exacly state- of- the- art.

  • As a kid playing this game I used to pretend I was farting when I would press the side key to throw the disc. The sound on these games were so primitive and hilarious. I could never hit that fuckin red thing that came out once in a while though.

  • this game is funny but I suck at this :D

  • i loved intellivision

  • you couldn't beat intellivisions character animation in those days. Night stalker was another classic

  • i loved this game too. intellivision was so much better than atari and yet it never sold as well.

  • Have a look at the controller and you might see why

  • Does anyone remember 'Maze-a-Tron' also for this console? It had the most annoying music ever!

  • Duh duh... duhduhduh... duh duh... duhduhduh...voom! (rinse, wash repeat to infinity) yep, remember it well. Never could quite get the hang of that game.

  • Someone else remembers it! I enjoyed the extreme difficulty - far harder than Deadly Discs! I had problems getting hold any of these games in the early 80's. Atari ruled the sales

  • So how far did you get in the game? I might need to try it again.

  • Can't remember - long time ago. I'm not slagging your play off

  • I had both of them, deadly discs was way better. I hated running from that scrolling screen and trying to figure out where to go. And then I was never good at Trons binary code stage, I think I was too young to figure out what to do, but Tron's eyes shot lasers at your ship, so that was cool.

  • Dude...you're terrible at this game

  • Link to your video playing this game?

  • :) Got to thinking on this a bit more. I was playing this on the Dreamcast, which does not have a numerical keyboard. It was a bit challenging to keep in mind as I was fighting "Ok, A and X is "6" or throw left" ect. However, this has got me thinking of the dream of mapping the right keys to to the Intellivision keypad and making a Dreamcast/Intellivision controller. I've already made a 2600/Dreamcast controller, so why not? :D

  • The most I ever got was about 1.5 million. Then the sweat used to pour :-)

When my family got it me, they were staying up until the wee hours playing this... one of my faves ever, I still have it!!

  • This game was better than the Maze-A-Tron.

  • My highscore on the real intv is 2.5 mil points. love this game..

  • to get highest score. is an awesome game.

  • LOL!!!

  • I love this game...but I can only get to like 600k points so far. (I use the real intv system and game though..it's hard)

  • I remember back in the 80s borrowing this game from friend for a weekend and playing the hell out of it non stop for hours, eventually quitting with a huge score.

I'd knock out the Recognizer's eye almost all the time by standing on top w/ my disk just to the left of the vertical center line.

The Guardians (orange guys) can't get you from behind if you're deep into the door.

Is there an ending to this game???

  • Interesting trick with the yellow warriors. I might have to try that. If you can, and you play this game, make a video of it sometime.

  • I remember being 10 years old and scoring over a million points.. yeah, the orange guys would come out. Awesome game.

  • This was absolutely my favorite intelivision game. Man was it fun.

  • Haha. Man this brings good memories! thank you

  • I loved this game. 5 million 4 hundred thousand was my record. No idea how I can remember that after 20 years.

  • Wow congrats!!!

  • iam game comes with an intellivision im buying online =D.

  • Back in around 1983 or so my old man (who was an absolute wiz at this game) scored 15 mil+ points. When his marathon game ended we were so amazed by his score that we didn't want to hit the reset button and erase that onster score. I wish we had a camera to take a photo of the screen and his score. I

  • i remember getting over 1 million points to get the orange guys with the white sticks.

  • i know it says that u have to beat the batlle drone by hitting his white eye. what white eye?

  • my favorite intellivision game of all time. the controller did suck but it worked ok for this one b/c you could shoot in any direction while running. and that sound effect when someone dies is the best sound ever.

  • One of the best games ive played on the intellivision :-)

  • i remember staying all nigth long one day and having to pause the system untill i was sleeping... then play all day long again and made 3 mill points, damn, i had to warn my family not to turn it of while i was away cause of that...hahahaha

  • I AM THE TRON MASTER! Managed well over 1m in my day..those orange guys are bastards...trying to probe your ass. gota spank them with your disc or fury...triva question! What was the name given to the purple warriors in this game that took two hits?

  • What was it?

  • Pretty sure was bulldogs, dark blue guys were leaders and made all the other baddies on the board do more damage, I remember one game I played where I just kept blocking the disks of the first wave without killing them to avoid new badguys =P

  • Oh damn! lol I remeber playing this game, I had to use a busted controller (disc was gone and I had to slide my thumb across the contacts)

    thanks for posting :P

  • The controller was cool looking, but not the easiest to use.

  • This was definitely one of my favorite games on the Intellivision.

As far as all the "color" misunderstandings, I think one of the main problems is that even the people making Tron didn't know what colors were going to end up being representative of who and what. Go look at the IMDB trivia.

  • Very true. I think this game should have been called "Clu's Deadly Discs" just because of the orangish color of the main guy.

That, or you are Sark beating up on good guys. I know some that would like that scenario. ;)

  • lol, Recognizer looks like a giant staple!. XD

  • No one can escape the quad laser. The bullet is enormous.

  • Muy lindo ! Gracias ,desde argentina.

  • Gracias!

  • What bothered me is...why the hell is TRON red? I thought that it was the army of the Master Control Programme who are the red ones?

  • I either figured you were playing Sark, or this was supposed to be Clu. However, I know this game was designed before TRON was released and the best they had to go by was promo clips. They might have thought that maybe Sark was the hero of the disc tournaments just viewing a clip. :D

  • Originally the idea was that the good guys would be Yellow (Clu) and the bad guys were going to be Blue (Tank Drivers) also look at the light cycles. Why red in this game who knows!

  • awesome game, but nothing can compete with the arcade version, thanks for the video...

  • One of my fav games back in the day. I would hang in those door ways and attack. But once you got around 100,000 points. You had to go back out in the open because these one guys with killer suits would try and touch you and game over like seen in this video, lol. I always knew were to sit to kill those robots to. Loved the sparking smashed up white eye as he limped off, lol.

  • Can this game be beaten? I sincerely hope it can't. The "Orange Fuckers" with their infernal fucking paralysis sticks would snag me every time.

    Cocksuckers!

  • I never turned the clock on it, but mainly because I got bored playing at about 780,000, but it definitely could be beaten, the trick was to smash their disks,& hit everyone 1 strike below there de-res (you could see them speed up as they recovered, so hit them again), the orange guys with the sticks, just steer clear & hit them same way, then only kill off one guy at a time & stay away from exits till he popped out.

  • Dude, the best way to beat the Recognizer is to stand at the TOP of the screen with Tron's right foot (your right) on the center line. EXACTLY one second after the Recognizer stops buzzing, shoot down, kills him every time. The side shot is waaaay too hard. Also, if you abstain from going through doors, the recognizer comes less often when you kill all three dudes.

  • Hmmm.. have to try that. :D

  • this was a great game. i seem to recall that you could hang out in a corner of the playing field and just bean enemies with the discs and pretty much never die.

  • Even better... stay by the doors... like I did in this video. A good way to duck out, and you heal every time you go through the doorways.

  • Love this game!

  • Awsome game! I remember my aunt beating the game with approx the same score. I wish that they had it on classics for PS2 or something.

  • I remember being thrilled to see this game in a pile of other games (like a bunch of trash) in the dollar bin at the local Woolco in Lethbridge, AB back in the mid 80's after the video game crash. I played it for hours and hours.
