I lived in an apartment building in Santa Monica where several tenants owned houses and would stay in their unit because the rent was so cheap because of rent control. Some would sublet and would make more money than the landlord. If a landlord had the right to evict drug dealers, gang members, loud tenants, everyone would be a lot happier and there would be better communities. In Los Angeles these people are protected and a landlord has to pay them to leave their property. YES ON 98
Renters who think Prop 99 protects you better than Prop 98 should know that Prop 99 (by the government and big developers who like eminent domain) provides that the only people who are protected from eminent domain are homeowners who have lived in their property for 12 months or more. It does NOT protect rental properties at all so your home can be condemned and taken away from you. Quit being stupid, read up!
Prop 98 would be devastating to the elderly in mobile home parks. They own their home, but not the lot. 98 would allow a park owner to raise rents as high as they want, wiping out any equity the mobile home owner had. Both have an investment in the park. If the elderly can not sell their mobile homes, you will see thousands of new Medical cases in California. 99 and 98 both have flaws, but 98 is the worst.
yetanotherforest: right you are! look at the examples of where they have rent control. Berkley, Westwood, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Brentwood, San Francisco. These are all affluent areas. They don't have rent control in minority areas like compton, east LA, etc. This is only reason why RC is a horrible. Vote Yes on 98!!
Yes, you are correct, people should not try to take things that don't belong to them, even if they are able to vote it into law. Rent Control is a great example of how the masses trample the rights of minorities.

Too good. Hits the nail right on the head. Greed is a sin. False & deceptive propositions should be considered a criminal act. United we stand.
