I have discovered one method of modulation I haven't seen online:
Rather than set all of my variables to modulate using an LFO or performer when I'm still exploring different sounds I instead set them to be modulated by an envelope you otherwise aren't using. Then drop the attack, decay and release to 0. I then map the sustain level of that envelope to the mod wheel on my midi keyboard so I can control the variables myself while I play. You can try it out and I hope you find it useful ^_^
While these videos are extremely informative, and i'm sure helpful for many people. My brain just couldn't understand most of what was going on here. I am new to massive, and new to music creation. I tried to follow along, but for some reason most of my stuff didn't sound anything close to what yours did. I fail.
wow this video series is actually REALLY helping me so much! finally i understand how i can make certain basses and wobbles without searching a tutorial that makes nearly the one im looking for (which i never find.. too many sh!t out there)
you explain it very well and you really how to create the sounds you want - instead just following what the guy is doing on the video..
These tutorials are great! Very thorough. Do you have any videos explaining how to do the reverse cymbal sound that often leads into a kick or snare hit? It's the sound at 0:27 in this video.
just finished watching the whole series, very very thorough! I love how you teach what to do and WHY you're doing it which is something that is lacking in most tutorials I've seen. Thank you so much for such great tuts! I will be sure to spread the word and direct traffic to your channel/vids :D
That was quality mate. No other tutorial has managed to make massive so transparent. Everything was so well explained and diagrammed I found it very easy to follow. You wouldn't happen to have demystified z3ta+ too by any chance, would you? lol
Dude! Thanks all the way from L.A! I Donated! Great info into using advanced instrument settings. I don't use Live, but everything i seen can be applied to almost any decent VST, and DAW. You rock for giving this info to the people!
Is there a way to make the automation line of massive's LFO to show numbers like "1/16" or "1/4"? Because it shows only a number between 0 and 1 and I cant sync it to the tempo that way :(

please do a mastering tut, i put a few bits together then put it all up with a multi band compressor and was pleasantly surprised so i re-did everything and made a whole track but i just cant get it beast like before...please all the mastering tuts on yt are shit
definitely the best tutorial I have watched for creating sounds like this - I had dabbled with Massive but never in depth - simply awesome, thank you!

Dude, thank you so much for this! After searching around Youtube for a good year or so for useful dubstep bass and sub bass techniques (which the sub bass is my weakest area at the moment) and only coming across chumps who thought they were experts, it's very refreshing to come across someone who knows what they're doing. Thanks again man. I hope someday soon that I can give you a donation for this. It deserves it. =)
Thanks man, really professional videos. Moneys tight in paypal at the moment as I have just started up in business again from scratch, but Ill be sure to drop by and donate to you when I have some expendable cash in there.... no doubt Ill be checking through these vids again, thank you.
Well done all who've made it to the end of the videos! If you have other production techniques you want to know more about, please comment on my main page and I will add them to my list for the next video(s)
just finished the last in this series, well done these are amazing would recommend them to anyone starting out. Ive been making music with ableton for about 6 months now and if i had only watched these a while ago, they cover so much!
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your natural teaching skills with all of us! I've been looking for a tutorial that caters for my intermediate level of knowledge and experience and this has been perfect.
I'll second the others who have requested a dubstep drums tutorial series for Ableton Live - especially one that explores the option of using separate tracks for each drum sound instead of using the drum rack.
this video serious was fucking mind blowing, its about time someone actually taught you about massive, instead of just trying to teacher you a simple LFO wobble. good job man and thanks
could you make a tutorial on how you made the 3rd "independent sub pattern" grimmy bassline please ? sound best at min 3:35. Also as everyone said so far.. best ever tutorials on more intricate sound design ;) keep it up.
Cheers for making these. very easy to understand and follow, and i learned alot of new ways to use massive i never thought of before. thanks again for taking the time to do these, would love to see some dubstep drum tutorials from you, or any other dubstep related tutorials.
dude srsly these vids must be the best tutorials on electronic music basslines so far i've seen, and i've seen MANY MANY MANY. thanks SO much, srsly! you're awesome!
Excellent video series. Really helped make light of this somewhat complicated piece of software. Will be looking out for more tips and techniques from you in the future.
man i just watched these tuts straight through from start to finish going along with massive at each stage. This has really really helped Thank you thank you thank you!!!
The best video tutorial i've come across to date. And i've watched lots so keep it up!
Hey thanks a lot man

Loved these tuts mate! Learned a ton about the no longer daunting Massive.
Can you do a single vid tutorial for vocalized basses? I've made a few in Sylenth and Unique but haven't had much success with it in Massive?
