  • if i was on that plane, i'd just grab me an umbrella and like something that can float on water and just jump off.

  • o thats minor just put some tape on it and it 'll be fine! JK Holy Shit what happend!

  • QANTAS is the best airline in the world in regards to passenger safety. They have never lost a life on any of the hundreds of aircraft that they have. The pilots and cabin crew are very highly trained. I have travelled on QANTAS hundreds of times and believe me they do know what they are doing.

  • no one disputes the crew are 100% just the vehicle they push through the air might not be 100% ! Bit hard to fly a plane with 1 wing if you get my drift.

Easy fix, double the fares, increase pay and maintenance in Australia.

  • all u ppl who are bad mouting qantas seriously need to get a life! Im a flight attendant for qantas and believe me this is nothing worse can happen and worse has happened with other airlines, just because its a name "Qantas" your all making a big deal over it. Get over it

  • yeah well , qantas will be broke soon so I guess you'd better start looking for an other carrier to take you on. Have you even got a clue how lucky those pax were to walk away unharmed?

    budget fares=budget maintenance

  • lol 1:33-1:44 "mama!"

  • pretty much all can be blamed on geoff dixon and his ego in not backing down on the engineer pay rise saga. bout time they got rid of him

  • I kind of feel bad for them, there about to lose there record for never haveing a worse crash

  • This has been in the making for way too long....Qantas is losing it's reputation for everything!!!

  • Newer aircraft are the aircraft to worry about, faults exist in them which are yet to be found. Older aircraft such as those used by QANTAS, have had their problems identified in the past and rectified. Unfortunately, that is how it works in the aviation industry, it's impossible to predict what can happen to an aircraft until it happens. The oxygen bottle incident is a perfect example - it's never happened before. I'm an aircraft maintenance engineer at QANTAS, so I know what I'm talking about.

  • Today in the news ANOTHER problem. This time an engine cover coming off. Two days ago yet another Qantas plane had problems - a hydraulic problem while landing. What the sweet fucking hell is going on at Qantas? Are they testing fate there? If I was a Qantas exec I would be doing a seriously urgent review on that airline before a big accident occurs. Because if it does and people die, they will be thrown to the lions by both media and public alike after all these minor incidents and no action.

  • qantas the worlds dirtest airline. believe me they have the worst service, atrocious food and leg space n seats. oldest aircrafts - which one after the other are failing.

They have the worlds OLDEST fleet operating, one after the other has started failing- 3 emergency landing in a couple of weeks, nose landing gear failure, everything is happening - QANTAS has ran out of luck now

so if u want to LIVE dont travel with this shitty airline

  • pfft these days its a risk to fly, qantas is like the 3rd best, u could be in any plane and this could happen, u think ur so smart..

  • 3rd Best, very soon at the pace technical faults are happening it would be compared to Ethopian airlines. Check paper for latest incidents. Have u ever travelled by Emirates or eithad check out mate - The shitty Qantas is nothing - its not spirit of Australia - its called dick of Australia

  • get fucked try hard aussie. your probs some asian who rekons the only good airlines are the ones with little asian sluts who wear those rank little dresses and bow and everything. Qantas pwns them anyday, you cunt

  • Get stuffed arsehole, its very clear that u stay in one of the country towns with no knowledge, just check papers, as of today 15/08/2008 -one of the panels fell down of a Qantas stupid aircraft - yep - the shit Airline has got some ugly old whores for service, once u look at them u puke.

  • live in Manly, dude. one of the most expensive parts of sydney. oh and yep im sure the media doesnt over exagerrate to sell papers. theyre such trustworthy people. and yep very ugly. im sure your a looker yourself.

  • I flew with QANTAS down to Sydney in October last year and I personally was very impressed with the service.

  • PLane pilots - is hero !!! :D gratulation goods pilots

  • god was playing golf and he accidentaly hit the plane. lol!

    FORE

  • When oxygen is being used safety comes first -NO electronic equipment. Sure its a one in 10 million chance of it causing a spark and causing a fire but then again so is crashing!

BTW you have pretty much given away your seat position anyhow - LOL

  • Meh 3 emergency landings. The flight that landed back in adelaide was because of a landing gear door that didnt close. Hardly a mid air emergency or emergency landing

  • it said on the news that was an emergency land

  • qantas is shit! 3 emergency landing in less then 8 days

    1 in manila

    2 in Adelaide

    3 now in sydney..

  • yeah and if the Manila incident hadn't happened we wouldn't have heard about them. The media is on a Qantas bashing rant that will become old news soon.......Someone should throw that kid outta the hole!!

  • common! those cabin crew should be seated and instructing the pax via the pa system

  • LOL CELL PHONES DON"T CAUSE FUCKING HARM! they don't want electronic to ruin there signal with THEMAIN CONTROL ROOM In Airport!

  • at the minute 1:33...

    why laugh this girl?

  • Wow! A happy ending to the worst nightmare of many, many people.

  • so what happen to the plane that it was an emergency?

  • glad to see that filming the event was more important than obeying the rules of all electrical devices being turned off...perhaps this lame footage won't earn them the pulitzer they'd hoped for...

  • Ive been on a plane, coming back from a skiing holiday in Switzerland, when the plane suddenly tilted 40 degrees whilst we landed. Really scary stuff, there where alot of people crying.

  • hope no one is hurt

  • No one got hurt

  • Those British Built RR RB211 524 engines just keep going and going, Good footage

  • Thats "Longreach" - she also flys Sydney/Auckland.

Wonder why the passengers werent instructed to assume the "brace brace" position for the emergency landing.

  • Salute to the pilot!!He is really fantastic and I believe Australia has the best pilot in the world!!

  • Very rare footage. However, it is possible that the plane will be repaired and fly again. The reason is that the hole did not seem to cause such severe damage to the plane. Qantas may keep their record of no jet write-offs.

  • OMG thats a rare footage of a accident with a plane!

  • yes i was.

  • Oh my god, i was in that plane too O.o, even i clapped on the landing ^^

  • Wow me too!

  • yeah me too

  • It's still safer than being in a car.

  • the crew very good !!!!!!

  • i was on this flight, it aint even scary or nothing we all heard like a UFO SMASH INTO THE JET

  • Wow, everyone seemed perfectly happy and content. Unbelievable!

  • I did hear that passengers said several of the oxygen masks did not deploy and one guy even punched a hole above him to break out one of the masks! So that equipment did not all work properly. But the same passengers were applauding the pilot and crew for all of their work!!

  • You gotta hand it to the crew- PROFESSIONAL and tough in every way. They obviously got the word from the officers to carry on about in the cabin in a manner to inspire calm and confidence. As far as I can see, the O2 masks/tubes are all employed but they're walking through the cabin smiling and serving drinks! They should have also been offering free duty-free & Mamon cakes and signing people up for shopping tours to Asia Mall after landing in Manila!

  • awesome

  • holly shit !

  • What a great Pilot and crew. They kept the situation under great control. This flight seemed smoother than some normal flights I have been on. Anyway, I'm just glad everyone was ok. I hope they find the cause of this soon.

  • People are really overreacting lol... Explosive decompression isn't nearly as dramatic as it is in movies. Its just like *poof* wow its cold my ears hurt. Then masks drop down and you're pretty much fine even if you don't put them on because pilots drop down to breathable altitude anyways within 15 minutes.

Although they really should fix the problem and it shouldnt have happened in the first place. If it happened to me on the plane, well it would be a pretty interesting experience at least.

  • wow. it seems so calm just like a normal flight, except for that screaming kid i just wanna kill. :)

  • Wow, i would be petrified

  • kool

  • thumbs up for you tube!!

  • This is a great example of how amazing youtube is that this footage can make it to the public sphere so quickly.

  • you're alowed cameras, not phones, when the seatbelt sign is on.

  • This is really scary. I'm going to be on a literally identical plane [747 Qantas] to that tomorrow...shitting myself about it :S :S :S I hope they bloody take this eriously and check all the rest of the planes for the same fault. Accident waiting to happen if they don't.

  • also please note for the sake of pure physics that the plane didn't 'drop' altitude. Well it did but it was under the pilot's control to drop altitude due to stop the depresurisation of the cabin (and preventing something more serious). It's pretty retarded how the media are purporting to suggest that the plane was out of control...

  • It may have seemed like the aircraft was going through a radical maneuver, and it is radical compared to normal flying, but this is standard protocol. The pilot is required to drop down in altitude where breathing is possible.

  • God bless the crew for remaining calm and even cheerful -- I'm sure it was immensely comforting to the passengers, who must have been terrified.

  • If any of you was on this plane...how did it feel when the fusulage blew out? Was it like the decompressive explosions seen in the movies, with everything flying around and the temperature dropping below zero and so on...??

  • I dont think mobile phones & other electronic devices affect landing/taking-off communications of an aeroplane as long as they are limited. I think its the congestion of the devices at one time that may imperil/interfere communications.

Is this true? Inputs much appreciated.

  • safety of other,s first thing in your mind tele phone device should be put of till landing no body want to any body dimise welldone all the crew and best wishes to all the passenger,s to next trip from(airline family pakistan international airlines )

  • Actually the airplanes communication and navigation equipment is on different frequencies alltogether and are not affected by cellular phones or pretty much anything like that. I believe it is the FAA or its equivilent that bans use of electronic equipment which has not been tested for interference and compliance. It is unfeasable for an airline to have all phones, wireless devices, etc. checked and certified for not causing interference. A new phone comes out every 10 minutes. So they ban all.

  • ...anyway, just think .. if cell phones caused harm... why wouldn't a bunch of terrorists hop on a plane and all start calling thier mothers at once, causing the plane to crash? Phones don't cause harm, they can just get the airline a fine for using un-registered electronic equipment.

  • the baby probily felt a liddle weay after landing, but the worst thing that couldve happend was passing out, nothing permanent, that baby is fine, these people train in situations like this many times on a almost real simulation.

  • theres only 15-20 min of oxygen in the masks but the pilot had already descended to 10000feet so the air was breathable

  • I saw someone sipping on a glass of wine.

  • I agree. I feel most sorry for the young child who is heard crying for its mother. Where was their mask? More importantly I hope the parents realise how painful it is for children when the plane descends as it places pressure on their undeveloped skulls. Don't think some parents realise how painful it is for young children to fly.

  • I would'nt be surprised if someday i'll see the story of this flight on Nat Geo's "Aircraft Investigation". Good job for the crew!

  • I was on the plane...it was a lot more panicky when it initially happened but the crew were really calm and handled everything really well.

  • the bad thing is the oxygen only last like 20-30 minutes

  • Its not oxygen Dolthead.. its pressurised air 70%nitrogen 20%oxygen 10% stale cigarette smoke.

Its the little baby you gotta worry about.. wheres her AIR mask..

    This is Ryanair..No refunds here.

  • Uh, how about turning off all electronic equipment before you take another hit of that oxygen tank?

  • terrifying, so glad they managed to land safely

  • Glad they're safe.

  • The main factor here is everyone is safe and the aircraft landed without incident. The crew are all extremely well trained and competent in handling these situations, Well done to all involved

  • I wouldn't say that this exactly conveys the DRAMA of an emergency landing, rather than demonstrating how calm the passengers managed to be.

"Passengers Exchange Conversations On Plane" doesn't make quite as lurid a headline though, does it.
