I think that Higurashi was a game between Lambda and Bern and the characters of higurashi were the pieces. The game was between Rika and Miyo in Higurashi. But maybe it was Lambda and Bern behind them and they just made their pieces look like them. Because they do say in Umineko that they had once played a game against each other.
@kingdomhearts5672 It is implied that Higurashi is a game between Lambda and Featherine. Remember, Bern's logic error was a game that the other player left, causing Bern-as-a-piece to flounder about on her own with no guiding player.
@YamiAura I agree with you... With all the hints in Umineko of Bern's hellhole of a life, and actaully playing the VN of Higurashi it makes sense that she is indeed part of that game. But the thing that bothers me is Hanyuu... she really was a coward but a wonderful character, but is she anything like Auaurora? Demo Patch of EP8 really gives a good idea of how connected Bern is... Remember the Game Club? No fake Virtues... And Bern is ruthless player as well.

It's actually a truth. During the "wedding" between Erika and Battler, you'll see that Bernkastel threatens to tell Lambda the "real culprit" behind the murders in the Hinamizawa game. At least, that's what she does to an extent; can't exactly remember the wording becuz I have bad memory. But that'd explain why Rika depended so heavily on Keiichi...

I wish I knew the truth between Bernkastel, Fredrica Bernkastel, and Furede Rika.
Like I know Fredrica is born from Furude Rika, but then how is it possible to have been playing that game against Lambada for so long if she spawned from Furude Rika? Is it like the Battler story?
Also I wish to know if Bernkastel exists, or if it's the same as Fredrica Bernkastel.
My final question is if Hanyuu was a piece sent forth by Featherine, after all Bernkastel is Featherine's miko as rika is to hanyuu.

@YamiAura Not necesseraly. [EP 6 SPOILERS] The "1000 year old witch" thing is a title witches have. One can become a thousand year old witch even after 1 week, according to featherine. Either way, Lamba has a hard time finding Bern, which is one of the reasons she works so hard to keep Bern locked in Beato's game. My guess is that the previous game (Whether that was higurashi or not), was their last and first fight.
@GarbageWitch I'm aware, but Lambdadelta and Bernkastel don't use it in that context, and the "Thousand Years" metaphor for a short period of time is one Beatrice invented. Featherine indulges in Beatrice's magical world, but the other two have no interest in it aside from abusing and destroying it.

has anyone else noticed that when lambda shows up she APPEARS. unlike bern who seems to disintegrate and reintegrate(?) somewhere else. and of course beato and everyone associated with her come in butterflies
@Yamiyokun In the (horrible) anime, all magical beings (and Battler) appear in a cloud of butterflies. I guess the production team wanted to save some money, but they could have make Lambda appear in a flash of light or something, though it may cause seizures .... awesome. Making Bern "dissolve" would be tricky and expensive I guess. How Virgilia appears in the VN? Butterflies too right?
I'm going to take a guess, Bernkastel and Lambda are Rika and Takano from the arc that ended kai, in which later after the epilogue, Rika is given the title "Witch of Miracles" (not sure by who though), and while Takano was in prison, started taking some study in the black arts and out of some twisted joke became a witch, in which she was able to use her power to look young and become immortal (and free herself and kill all else). Thus begins Bernkastel and Lambdas "game"
LambdaDelta and Bernkastel are the witches responsible for what happens in Higurashi. Bern is witch of miracles because she can be defeated 999 times but will win once in a spectacular fashion (how Rika finally got to live in Higurashi), and Lambda is witch of certainty because she can win constantly and only be defeated by a miracle. Bern might have been more innocent back in those days, but she became twisted from being trapped in the kakera as Rika
As such, Bern's cruel personality arose out of Rika's many dark memories and split from the Rika who survived those many worlds once she finally won. Miyo ("34") was just a pawn of LambdaDelta and Rika is a pawn of Bern (in the same way Furudo Erika is her pawn). The mortals are separate beings from the witches, but it's a blurred line. Which makes one wonder what will happen to Battler now that he's grown apart from his mortal counterpart (so it seems)
From what I've read about the possibility that Lambda could in fact be Takano and many of us hardly have a doubt Bernkastel is Rika. If the shipping between Lambda and Bernkastel is official from what I've heard of the novels, then I'm gonna be confused. If I remember correctly, Rika hated Takano for causing her life to repeat hell over and over again, and now they're rivals in a witch game that get bored and then suddenly they "love" each other? I hope Bernkastel was really being sarcastic.
@Magicacoca also sounds a bit like nue's or flandre's theme both from touhou...umineko and touhou appear together a lot for me its getting kinda weird....

besides bern and lambada are farther down the ladder then other witches (see lambada's diary) in the series, i'm betting a consiquence of their fewer restrictions are a weakening of emotions. (or at least the ability to, which bern has undoubtedly taken, dont know about lambada though)

And a weakening of emotions makes absolutely no sense as a consequence. Lambdadelta is extremely emotional, as is Featherine. Even Bern is pretty emotional once she stops pretending to be neutral. The thing with Bern was born from escaping a trap where, according to another TIP, she "forgot friendship, and learned darkness and power."

@Yamiyokun In the (horrible) anime, all magical beings (and Battler) appear in a cloud of butterflies. I guess the production team wanted to save some money, but they could have make Lambda appear in a flash of light or something, though it may cause seizures .... awesome. Making Bern "dissolve" would be tricky and expensive I guess. How Virgilia appears in the VN? Butterflies too right?

I'm going to take a guess, Bernkastel and Lambda are Rika and Takano from the arc that ended kai, in which later after the epilogue, Rika is given the title "Witch of Miracles" (not sure by who though), and while Takano was in prison, started taking some study in the black arts and out of some twisted joke became a witch, in which she was able to use her power to look young and become immortal (and free herself and kill all else). Thus begins Bernkastel and Lambdas "game"

LambdaDelta and Bernkastel are the witches responsible for what happens in Higurashi. Bern is witch of miracles because she can be defeated 999 times but will win once in a spectacular fashion (how Rika finally got to live in Higurashi), and Lambda is witch of certainty because she can win constantly and only be defeated by a miracle. Bern might have been more innocent back in those days, but she became twisted from being trapped in the kakera as Rika

As such, Bern's cruel personality arose out of Rika's many dark memories and split from the Rika who survived those many worlds once she finally won. Miyo ("34") was just a pawn of LambdaDelta and Rika is a pawn of Bern (in the same way Furudo Erika is her pawn). The mortals are separate beings from the witches, but it's a blurred line. Which makes one wonder what will happen to Battler now that he's grown apart from his mortal counterpart (so it seems)

From what I've read about the possibility that Lambda could in fact be Takano and many of us hardly have a doubt Bernkastel is Rika. If the shipping between Lambda and Bernkastel is official from what I've heard of the novels, then I'm gonna be confused. If I remember correctly, Rika hated Takano for causing her life to repeat hell over and over again, and now they're rivals in a witch game that get bored and then suddenly they "love" each other? I hope Bernkastel was really being sarcastic.

( this is my oppion and theory it's not proven) look, witches CANT love in a romantic sence, And it's also not accurate to say they love eachother as sisters it's probbably closer to say they love each other the way a person loves a piece of music. (ofc music cant love you back so the annlogy is imperfect). The whole gourge out her eyes comment was probbably a joke playing off the concept of romantic love. And 07th expansions attempt to mind scew us (and it worked)

besides bern and lambada are farther down the ladder then other witches (see lambada's diary) in the series, i'm betting a consiquence of their fewer restrictions are a weakening of emotions. (or at least the ability to, which bern has undoubtedly taken, dont know about lambada though)

@32121452145225255658 Meta-Beatrice is more than the "Zero"-trice created to love Battler. She's an amalgamation of all things called Beatrice in the story.
And a weakening of emotions makes absolutely no sense as a consequence. Lambdadelta is extremely emotional, as is Featherine. Even Bern is pretty emotional once she stops pretending to be neutral. The thing with Bern was born from escaping a trap where, according to another TIP, she "forgot friendship, and learned darkness and power."
