I recently watched the movie "The Elephant Man" which reminded me of this documentary. I remember watching this on HBO in 1982. I loved it so much I watched it every time it aired. It was great to see it again. Thank you for posting it.
I met the woman known as "The Monkey Faced Woman" at the AF museum in Dayton Ohio, I asked her if she was still in show business and married to the Alligator Man....Her husband had died, and she had retired to Florida..She was a very charming lady and I was glad I had decided to talk to her...She was a beautiful person and it didn't take long to see how beautiful she really was...I know some very lovely women who are hideous inside....
@SpazChat cruel? they don't see it as cruel, why should you? Some even LOVE to be what they are, like Schlitzie, he got so depressed when they entered him into a mental hospital because he couldn't perform... So cruel? I think ti depends on how bitter you are. o.o
@akissy , I find it interesting you would come to that conclusion after such a seeming uplifting and positive statement. No one likes to feel like an outsider. I just don't buy what you are selling.
I saw this for the first time when I was 8 years old. For the next several months it kept me from going to sleep at night. Various images from this would pop into my head and scare the bejesus out of me. Now that I've discovered this on Youtube, I have challenged myself to watch it in it's entirety.
