we were only in Iraq for oil from the beginning. we built the largest military bases in the world and an embassy compound bigger than Vatican city. thats not a temporary deal. and theres not enough oil in Iraq to change anything. Iraq has 90 billion barrels but the worlds using 85 million a day so 90 billion barrles would only last a few years.
It's painfully clear that Bush's (and Cheney's) intention when they received the power of executive office that they wanted to take down "this dictator" in Iraq and be remembered in history for sparking the first embers of democracy in the middle east, and have it encroachingly sanctify the surrounding territories from their original gestation.
They needed a reason to justify the war, and said "well then... waterboard the fucker again until he gives a connection" from their comfortable offices.
All this hype about torture is strictly a political stunt. It is so superficial! The people involved in accusing the bush administration mainly the left media are only trying to boost the democratic parties standing! This is a load of crap. Water boarding is not torture! We do it to our own military in training. Would we honestly torture our own military. Gouging a persons eyes out is torture. Water boarding is not torture. I would gladly be water boarded to shut all these crazy people up!

Hey yo. I'm all for human rights and everything, but if I had someone in custody and I knew they had info about bombings that were coming which could cause the deaths of hundreds or thousands of innocent people, I'd do ANYTHING I could to the person to get them to talk. I'd do things that hurt like a bitch, but leave very few marks or visible injuries. In the end, are you gonna worry about standing on principle or about saving the people who are about to be killed by crazy terrorists?
Because the Geneva conventions were expanded and revised after the second world war and it was agreed that the signing countries would abide by specific regulations concerning the treatment of prisoners of war. Therefore, the Bush administration has broken international law and its actions here are criminal. That's why it's such a big deal.
bush and cheney are a couple of creeps. Thank god for Obama. I feel like he is MY president now, and he is a cool guy, very smart. And i dont live in America....good riddens
i bet u the guy talking here only knows what the media says about bush and doesnt actually know what bush has realy done.Hes only talking trash so he can get popular on youtube.dude you are a complete loser becouse all u do is waste time talking about bush
So how does he get popular on youtube if the public does not agree? If the public is wrong, then who caused it? Certainly not someone as small as this group.
it is degrading and is and example of behavior which is clearly prohibited under American law. you also have to take into consideration the culture of the people who had panties put on their heads; it is EXTREMELY degrading for people from their background and with their social/religious beliefs.
it's equivalent defacing a deity of Lord Krishna with semen and making a Devotee wear it as an amulet. or forcing a Christian to wear a urine-soaked crown of thorns.
I think they should have a vote in the UN, asking if they want Bush and Cheney to be triad. I know that a lot of UN delegates don't like 'em, so I think it would work.
Hold it. If Eric makes waterboarding illegal does that mean we can't waterboard George W. and Dick Cheney? How can we get these two to tell the truth?
This is what a judge is supposed to do. Interpret the law objectively and to hand out justice to all concerned. This is why we have a separation of powers. But where was this decision two or three years ago? Now that bush and his clique are leaving it seems too late for real justice. A good and honest people would not have allowed this under any circumstances. This is how these few powerful people have represented us to the rest of the world.
We keep talking about prosecuting Bush and co. for war crimes. Be careful because Bush is still the president for a few days. Because of all the chatter, watch that Bush just doesn't issue a general pardon to all before he leaves office. We should just shut up until after the 20th.
I don't think there ever was a 20th hijacker. I think they intended the number to be exactly 19 because 19 is some kind of magic code number in the Qu'ran. Google it if you don't believe me
No. I think it makes sense that there would be the same number to take over each plane. 5 guys per plane. Why would they pick one plane with 4 and the rest 5? Each guy had a job. The fourth plane just had to improvise when the 5th hyjacker didn't show up in time.
Fuck the Israel, fuck you all morrow.I wish Adolf Hitler has finished his job with your race before he suicide, but it seems that good things not always happens.
How you can do the same things to other people(Palestine) that was does to your people some years ago! GO DIE IN HELL ASSHOLES,,Common show us your really bloody face, don't be shy go ahead so people will see it!
I think Torture should be outlawed and that if Cheney gets away with that, then we lose the moral high ground. We cannot torture our detainees and then ask our enemies to stop the torture. We lose the ability to be the moral champions
Holder, having said that waterboarding IS torture, doesn't that mean, that as the Attorney General, he has to prosecute people who have committed this crime. At least he has to investigate Cheney and Bush. He needs to set up something like the Nuremberg Trial, where he can prosecute the leaders for approving this torture.
And to all you jerks who approve of torture, 1) you never get good info when you torture people and 2) the USA should never torture people. We are better than that.
The most amazing part about all this is that torture is documented to be counter productive in interrogation. People who are tortured will say -anything- to make the torture stop, and misinformation is worse then no information. Remember, the Americans got their intel about Iraq having WMDs via torture.
They knew this in WW2, so even Nazi spies captured by the Europeans would not be tortured or harmed in any way. And guess who won the war? Americans need to study a little history.
That's not the point you goon. When you stare off into the abyss the abyss stares back at you, Friedrich Nietzsche. Point is you must keep the standard, your morality when fighting monsters or yourself will be the monster. If we became the monster then we are no different than the terrorist. You can't have the mentality, Kill'em all let God sort it out. Guns blazing cowboy... It's retarded we should be above such actions.

Listen up DUMBASS, You cant fight people that have no rules like gentlemen. Go protest something you limp wristed Democrat jackass. Youre more pathetic than this dickhead reporting this Anti-American crap. Everything is Americas Fault right? Drink the Kool-aid you chumps
You just prove my point. It's not Anti American to question government other wise we have a communist state, that's Anti American. I'm neither Democrat or Republican, I'm simiply American. Just because you belong to a party doesn't give you free rain to be idiots. You don't have to be gentlemen in war, I served my country and I'm a vet. I'm saying what happen to HONOR. They are still human beings even thought you call them terrorist. I can gut a pig but not a man. BARBARIC
You call me a coward but I served proudly, can you say the same? I would protect my family as well as yours, with respect honor and courage. Don't you understand that? Where do you draw the line? Torture, then what rapping and pillaging the locals for information? It's one thing to kill a man, it's to protect our liberties our way of life but to abuse a man is one step towards isanity, emperorism.
who is the kool-aid drinker? all i hear is some stupid conservative spouting off Fox news talking points. why aren't you over there fighting then, coward? commenting on youtube channels and calling other veterans coward is very typical of a dumbass conservative
I don't think being appointed by Robert Gates necessarily makes her part of the "Bush administration." That would mean every member of the Executive branch is part of the Bush administration.
Bush and Cheney should rot in jail. I figure we'll have to settle with them rotting in Hell since we will probably let them get away with it. We let them get away with everything else.
US executed Japanese officers for waterboarding prisoners during WW2...why are we still discussing if waterboarding is torture or not?????????????????lets waterboard Cheney and rumsfeld on Jan 21st and then just ask them if they feel they are being tortured...if they say no we just continue till they do.........who's with me???
if i'm not mistaken it's something you frequently see in movies, the holding the head under water until the person is about to drown then pull him out and repeat
And when you think movies are reality, shit can get very twisted. Mainly because you will always view yourself as the protaganist, no matter what vile acts you perform on others.
With Obama coming into office, he is the start of a maturity for the US. We've seen inklings of it from Carter and Clinton and these things take time. The concept of torture is an unevolved idea and perpetrated by those who refuse to be aware of the connection of themselves to the rest of life. Whether we "like it" or not, we are all connected and in bigger ways than the average person realises. Those who have meditated know what I mean. We are ALL responsible for the well being of others.
How many people will not join our forces because they thing they might be sent to war, and risk getting captured. They know what will happen if they are....before it was a possibility....but now they know they will be tortured....what intelligence would they get.....from people who would kill themselves to kill Americans....most Americans would not commit suicide to kill our enemies, but how many will tell secrets when they are tortured...you would tell them anything they wanted to hear.....
It sounds like Cheney had this all planned out. He knew that he could have a lot of influence as the VP, but since his orders were not authorized and official he probably won't get in trouble for them.
I thought everyone in the Bush admin was pretty stupid, but I've got to admit that Cheney had his position planned out nicely. Too bad our enemies are now justified to use the same tactics against captured Americans..
As a citizen of these United States I am ashamed that I was to busy to care. I am scared of the retribution that is gathering. How can I protect myself against righteous anger knowing I am responsible. The crime makes me the weaker. Can I expect forgivemess? And what good does it do my soul if I receive it? There is only one thing I can do to save myself and my country. One thing that enables me to stand and fight those who would seek to destroy me. Justice.Whoever said "do it" must be punished
I wasn't aware there were over 100 DEATHS of our detainees. I swear, young turks, I get all my news from you guys. Keep up the good work, and this....
It is not good for your only source of news to come from a far left news station. You should view other alternatives of news so your views are one-sided.
Our government decided to go to war for profit and glory. In the past that has worked, now, not so much. I don't think it will ever stop until the criminal leaders start getting life sentences. I don't know if they are sefish/callouse, or get their rocks of by teamwork killing. They had to pretend that someone was an actual terrorist, and not our own Gov collusion. Side taking political People can be really ugly-stupid-mean-cruel. Leaders are this way while effectively posturing heroic.
The thing is, if you want to steal status, someone will be taking the fall. If a person's group or side gets on board with lying status creeps, you more or less have to regard everyone who supports them without evidence that same way. Our society has been declining in leadership in a way that could not be much worse. I would like to see the entire Bush Admin in jail. I have no doubt that the Bush Admin pulled off 911 to go to war and tighten the grip on power and steal Iraq's oil by torture.
The Bush Admin has come to power by dirty tricks, lies, and viciously cruel dishonesty. They have done this their entire lives, so they use what they know. Everyone who likes the power of falsehood is far more likely to ascend in dishonest hierarchy. Did i mention they have also been operating with credible disregard for the law or are immune from punishment apparently, which is humorous because the stole the last two elections as well. i'd jail Laura as well, maybe torture the DickWad's wife.
most of them are just good but misguided people, the problem is that hate group types use the banner to hide behind, kind of like Hamas hiding in schools...
im not making excuses for any kind of torture, good luck getting rid of it, until we view all people as human beings we will continue to torture others, has been done and will continue, its sickining and wrong on many levels but i would be willing to bet it will happen again its just a matter of how well will it be covered up, the only reason we even know of these incidents,, the arrogance of the bush administration and their realization that they could do and did whatever they wanted
when you're the "superpower" others criticize and watch you more than any other nation. And American captives have been tortured before so it's not surprising but rather obvious and mundane b/c you're acting like Americans have no experienced that.
Why not torture and do a lie detector test? Huh! Why not? Its not like torture is admissable to court nor is it effective! Just a thought! If there gonna get something out of torture they may as well the right infos!
That wouldn't work idiot...The lie detector uses the heart rete as the base. I'm assuming when you're getting tortured your fucking heart rate is going through the roof.
George Bush and Dick Cheney are confessed war criminals. George Bush and Dick Cheney have publicly admitted ordering the torture of a prisoner of war. George Bush and Dick Cheney must be tried and executed. Nothing less will restore America's integrity and humanity.
so when they capture a us official of soilder its ok they can do what ever it takes as long as they get the info they want right, so thats fine to u??? that works so its ok!!!! really!!!????
didn't say I think it's a good idea. Said it works so someone will always be tempted to use it. Unfortunately. My personal opinion is that we shouldn't, and if our enemies do, they relieve themselves of the right to be treated according to the laws of war.
It does not work, Al libbi confessed under duress to Al Qaida having links to Saddam - which was used as a bases of the Iraq war. 4000 dead soldiers & $2 trillion later its been proven to be false.
So now your left with a war weary bankrupt nation, a tired army that will take years if not a decade to recover all because the interrogators took the easy path and tortured.
in the meantime America has lost its position as the moral barometer of the world and is considered just another nation.
This world is just screwed up enough that Cheney will get off scott free, but we should at least be able to nab his flunkies and throw them into some deep dark hole.
People have admitted to being witches, to having magical powers bestowed by Satan, under torture. Yeah, torture yields accurate and true information. Really, what would they have done in Salem without waterbo ... um DUNKING?! If they hadn't dunked those witches all those years ago, we would have been a nation of witches.
the worst thing to be when the torturer comes is innocent because you have nothing to admit. If you can't admit anything the torture wont stop. so you lie then innocent people die in wars based on false intel.
I think torture is necessary to obtain information to save lives. If they needed to torture in order to prevent another 9/11, i would certainly support it--and so should any other decent human being
I understand that point of view, but when has it ever resulted in good, verifiable information being obtained?? Real life is messy and it's not like 24 (which is a show that I loathe). Torture doesn't work. It's never been proved to work. The only thing it does is drag whoever approved it into the gutter. It's never justifiable.
Man, you Americans must feel pretty ashamed. Imagine how the rest of the world looks at that. Leader of the free world my ass... Yeah sure not every American is a torturer now, but hey, that's your leadership elected through the system 'Democracy', which you are so eager to spread in the world. Man.. I'd be pretty ashamed if my country would do torture. No seriously, be ashamed and then assure that this CANNOT happen ever again.
Well, I can never be 100% sure. But I'm pretty sure it's not possible that either branch of our government has as much authority to be able to torture without oversight.
Of course a powerful president has its benefits, but the last few years, Bush had too much influence over the legislative process as well as the judiciary branch of government.
Internationally that makes you lose your face, seriously. You need to prosecute. That's a no-brainer.
Doctors were probably not "brought in". They are an important part of the modern day torture session.
Sleep deprivation is given scant notice. This was the technique the Chinese used to "brainwash" American prisoners of war in Korea. It was used on McCain.
It does not produce intelligence. The victim is woken whenever he starts to dream, over and over, days at a time. This induces a split with reality, where false memories can be implanted, and false confessions extracted.
That's ashame that people in office can do such harm to other people and not even feel any guilt with what they've done. The whole bush admin as completely messed up our country's reputation with the crap they've done. Cheney is the worst i'll never forgive him for putting my cousins in a war and one coming back a nervous reck and the other died. Maybe someday i'll TRY to forgive but as of right now. SOMETHING needs to be done with these crimes.
Sorry for your lost, just know that your cousins our the main reason the Iraq war will always piss me off, young people dieing for lies and greed should not be the American way.
Thank you. I never understood why certain parties say, If your a "REAL" american he died with honor." and things like that I mean i guess it's me being young i guess..I'm 22 but i never understood that logic. And i've gotten a lot of older people telling me "you should be happy they served" but i how can i understand the "logic" when one died for a false cause? Maybe people will one day understand the real meanin of being an american. But thank you for ur words.
If you think torture is a way to get "valuable intelligence" then you also believe in Satan appearing on earth every night in fairy rings of mushrooms where he parties the night away with groups of promiscuous witches.
Because thats what people admitted to inquisition after being tortured.
There's a possibility of nailing Addington (his then-counsel) for conspiracy. If he's more concerned for his own hide, he may implicate Cheney. Not very damn likely, though.
Addington is no Gonzales, he covered his tracks like cheney would claim he only gave advice, as counsel to the VP he can also claim that the VP has no actual responsibility (except breaking tied votes in the senate) so cannot be blamed for any actions taken on his advice.
Looks like we (USA) are trying to send a message and prove how far we will go. Problem is we are playing with people that know no boundaries and will go further. How long do you think it would take Bush or Cheney to crack under torture??
cheney is pure evil.....perfect parallel to darth sideous from star wars...i know that sounds silly...but if you know anything about the movies....he manipulated everyone and started the entire war for his political gain....cheney like palpatine is on both sides of this fake war....he and the neocons are behind the 9/11....why do you think they keep telling this lie about how they have kept us safe.....americans are slowly waking up to the lies of the empire....i mean...bush administration
Cenk, you're a idiot sometimes man. They will NEVER be a trail for anything remotely close to the 9/11 events because it would require ACTUAL EVIDENCE which america doesn't have! God I wish americans would wake the fuck up and take back their country but it seems as though it will NEVER happen. Instead, we're all gonna have to live with this stupid fake war on terrorism for the rest of our fucking lives.
yes but the fact is that as in Americans wed rather let 100 criminals free than let one inocent man into jail. And a lot of the men in Guantanamo are innocent so its ILLIGAL!!!
Probably so... But we are America; and we are held to a high standard. Implementing torture on everyone we capture will yield false information. This is what made us go to Iraq; false info. We can't torture people because we will inevitably torture some innocent people that don't really know anything. Imagine the misinformation that would come of this.
America to a higher standard??? nonono. you yankee will be held to the standard that israel prime minister Olmert decides for you. shut up and keep your head down and keep sending the money.
Your response to my comment doesn't make much sense. The thing is that Israel is like a pimple on our ass. They are annoying and are constantly stirring up shit in the middle east. We then have to come in a clean things up with peace talks. How about this... instead of sending you money.. how about we send Obama over there so he can dick slap Mr. Olmert with his large dick? Or we could sanction your ass through the U.N. because of the use of white phosphorous and other illegal war actions.
Israel is not the pimple, as Olmert showed when he bitch slapped America into abstaining from own resolution.
The French & British were stunned by condi's abstention, as she had practically written the resolution and convinced them to agree to it.
Its clear that American policy is authorised from Jerusalem, How many people could drag Bush out from giving a speech to take a phone call (he did not leave the classroom when told about 911), yet Olmert gets instant access.
You are a fool if you think that this shit will continue when Obama takes over on the 20th. We are NOT continuing the policies of the fool George W. Bush. We like you Israel, we really do. But you are digging your own grave and trying to include us in your funeral. This ends now and you know it.
Obama has already pledged alligience to AIPAC & Israel even before he was elected.
The gate keeper to any president is his Chief of Staff, Obama picked Rahm Emanual, in 1991 Rahm volunteered to help the IDF when Saddam THREATENED Israel, why didnt Rahm sign up with the Nat Guard after 911? many people did. Maybe an attack on US is not worth him risking his neck but a mere threat to Israel and he's on the plane.
They should sent bush and Dick to china for training on the ten method of tortures

Why are torturers allowed to roam free in USA ? and why are the three lawyers who
advised them to do it still not disbarred at the least or imprisoned ?
Because Americans don't care they feign that they care but obviously that the Majority of Americans are interested in only themselves.

rji 3 years ago
it is degrading and is and example of behavior which is clearly prohibited under American law. you also have to take into consideration the culture of the people who had panties put on their heads; it is EXTREMELY degrading for people from their background and with their social/religious beliefs.
it's equivalent defacing a deity of Lord Krishna with semen and making a Devotee wear it as an amulet. or forcing a Christian to wear a urine-soaked crown of thorns.

We should just shut up until after the 20th.

bluesboy25000 3 years ago 5
Holder, having said that waterboarding IS torture, doesn't that mean, that as the Attorney General, he has to prosecute people who have committed this crime. At least he has to investigate Cheney and Bush. He needs to set up something like the Nuremberg Trial, where he can prosecute the leaders for approving this torture.
And to all you jerks who approve of torture, 1) you never get good info when you torture people and 2) the USA should never torture people. We are better than that.
srlasky 3 years ago
The most amazing part about all this is that torture is documented to be counter productive in interrogation. People who are tortured will say -anything- to make the torture stop, and misinformation is worse then no information. Remember, the Americans got their intel about Iraq having WMDs via torture.
They knew this in WW2, so even Nazi spies captured by the Europeans would not be tortured or harmed in any way. And guess who won the war? Americans need to study a little history.

I have no doubt that the Bush Admin pulled off 911 to go to war and tighten the grip on power and steal Iraq's oil by torture.
hypnofan35 3 years ago
The Bush Admin has come to power by dirty tricks, lies, and viciously cruel dishonesty. They have done this their entire lives, so they use what they know. Everyone who likes the power of falsehood is far more likely to ascend in dishonest hierarchy. Did i mention they have also been operating with credible disregard for the law or are immune from punishment apparently, which is humorous because the stole the last two elections as well. i'd jail Laura as well, maybe torture the DickWad's wife.

franksnow79 3 years ago
It does not work, Al libbi confessed under duress to Al Qaida having links to Saddam - which was used as a bases of the Iraq war. 4000 dead soldiers & $2 trillion later its been proven to be false.
So now your left with a war weary bankrupt nation, a tired army that will take years if not a decade to recover all because the interrogators took the easy path and tortured.
in the meantime America has lost its position as the moral barometer of the world and is considered just another nation.

Well, I can never be 100% sure. But I'm pretty sure it's not possible that either branch of our government has as much authority to be able to torture without oversight.
Of course a powerful president has its benefits, but the last few years, Bush had too much influence over the legislative process as well as the judiciary branch of government.
