  • wow , how could you even think the celica could keep up , i have 85 928 couple little mods done , friend drove it that has 2005 evo mr running 20lbs boost said that he wont race me ....

  • if that was a s4 strseck like my stroseck it would be a different story

  • Wanna race my 928? We can play the boost game too!

  • Comment removed

  • He was driving at 100kmph approx... he wasnt racing

  • Lol, the 928 may not be extremely fast, but it's to be expected... Have some respect for the engineering that made it heavy, don't blame the powerplant. The engine and tranny essentially floated on rubber mounts, with a 55 lb torque tube to keep them in line and resist frame twist... this, and the fact that most US 928's have a 2.20 rear end.

Anyways, it'll still always be better looking (well 1987 on at least), more comfy, and a better all rounder.

  • A caldina already looks good and imho a 928 isn't even a real porsche it looks like a shoe driving along the road lol and you can make a caldina look even better with an aftermarket bodykit but that doesn't make them go any faster you probably have no idea what a caldina even looks like it has a 3sgte engine with a hell of alot of potential to even smoke a new rs6 very easily

  • And it seems you ain't able to read the whole story.... We talked to the 928 driver afterwards and HE is the one who told us he could NOT get rit of us on his tail even though he was trying hard to...

  • Man, let's buy real life. Maybe in NFS or something your ricebox is faster than a 928. Stop dreaming, the 928 wasn't racing!

  • Any good japanese performance car could beat one of those 928's they weigh more than my 4wd caldina gtt turbo and thats a 4wd station wagon and has less power and is still quicker maybe coz I have a mines ecu and a cold air intake ;) hahaha I agree with papapetad if you want a fast porsche buy a 911 turbo the latest model lol

  • @Deano86t ha ha, you ignorant bastard, ill take you on in my 88 928 S4, only mods are exhaust so i run 350 horse now.375 torque. bring it pal, and do your research.

  • The only good looking 928 is the S4/GTS. The rear lights and general styling on S1-2-3 is horrible. And they weigh in excess of 1500kg. They are fast for a 20+ year old car, but I can think of many japanese cars of that era nearly just as fast. And tons of jap cars are easily modified to destroy porsche 928 performance...get real guys. You don't take them on because you know you'll probably get a bashing...

  • @papapetad same with the later 928's pal, some modification and it will blow away the modified rice burner.

  • @mhickory I see we have a little porsche fanboy. You just have no fukin idea what the japs are up to with their so-called rice burners. Have a look at the touge battles on the GT channel. See how some of those cars perform. Your porsche is shit in comparison. 50:50 weight distribution, well guess what, it's not the only car in the world with 50:50 weight distribution. Have some respect for all cars which are well built. As I said, I like the 928 S4 and GTS but you're puttin me off

  • @papapetad rice-a-roni baby!

  • They night have been fast back in their days but their days were a long time ago and as for beating high end sports cars I doubt it a nissan 370z would easily be able to beat one by miles as would lots of other sports cars what high end sports cars are you talking about mazda mx5??? lol and 200 mph I highly doubt it they wouldn't even get anywhere near that maybe 220 km/h or 240 km/h the only real porsche is the 911 and has been made ever since the 60's you can't say the same about 928's

  • @Deano86t the gts has 330 or 340 HP, maybe more, and can easily do more than 250kph, but definitely NOT 200mph. The guy below is a dreamer. It can only do that speed if it's modified to go that fast. Almost ANY car has the CAPACITY to reach 200mph, it just takes more or less work to get there... I actually really like the 928 GTS but it's damn heavy, high maintenance and why buy one if you want a performance car when there's tons of much better options available ^^

  • @papapetad ignorance is bliss. the GTS has 350 horse. top factory speed 172. i have had my S4 for 4 years now, no maintance besides a timing belt and tires. sorry pal.

  • @mhickory Well I'm sorry I'm NOT your pal and how much do you spend on tyres and a timing belt for a porsche 928 S4? Coz I can get mine done in a shop for US$200 for a timing belt, tyres I always pick second hand quality ones for dirt cheap and I bet your insurance is not so cool. For some people, high maintenance means different things. I'm not ignorant since I said 330-340 maybe more, maybe more coz i had a feeling it was more i just hadnt seen the specs for a while mr smarty fukin pants

  • @papapetad hey pal. tires are Khumo's and were $400 for all 4. Insurance is cheaper then my 1998 Vw Golf, both on same policy. in 2 years i can get Hagerty Insurance, even cheaper. Timing belt is $1000 but i can handle that once every 6 years.

  • @Deano86t so 172 from factory is not fast these days? lets also bring up quality. the 928 is hewn from granite. your jap cars are hewn from rice. 928's are hand built. first car to ever come with standard antilock brakes, 4 wheel steering and an all aluminum engine.

  • i wont waste my fuel running a litle jap car

You want t o play with my 928 you better bring something big

  • Lol, i don't think he was trying to outrun you judging by the sounds i heard. Last time i checked the 928 doesn't emit a ricer piece of shit sound when it's haulin ass.

  • "Porsche 928 S2 trying to outrun Celica"!!!??? It was more like the 928 was trying to get that annoying, harrassing monkey/piece of shit off its back.

  • It's funny how people think 928's are fast when they aren't that fast at all I don't even consider them to be a real porsche they look gay and don't seem very quick and they are really old and not worth very much money over here in nz lol

  • The 928 was an evolution in porsche technology and is still one of the fastest production cars ever built by porsche or anyone. These cars were built by hand...the old school porsche method..the best. The GTS model has the capacity to reach 200 mph while still maintaining stability. The 928 is a true 80's and 90's supercar that can take on and whip many brand new high end sports cars of today in 2011.

  • @Deano86t God you are dumb. mine is a 1988 S-4. 0 to 60 in 5 seconds, top speed 172 and one of the best handling cars in the world today. read your facts.

  • @Deano86t you dumb fuck, my 88 S-4 does 0-60 in 5 seconds, top speed 172 and one of the best handling cars ever.

  • @mhickory and btw a honda integra type r would make mincemeat out of your 928 around corners and thats a jappa and i'm not even a honda fan imports are cheaper to modify are far more reliable and have far more performance parts available than a porsche 928 and you can make more power out of them than the old heavy 928 hahaha

  • @Deano86t Once again, the voice of ignorance. 928's-R-us make every performance part you can think of at there factory in Texas, Pal. Mine is very reliable. I have owned 2 Celica's in my lifetime by the way. so i know firsthand.

  • clearly the porsche is not racing simply driving down the road, the fact that you thought you were in a race give me a break you are flattering yourself

  • dandini2999 I suffer the same, usually from brainless twerps in Subaru Impreza's. If I can be bothered I play for a while or until they get the message.

  • Comment removed

  • @Curveking Ha, it's people like you the used car buyer has to look out for... What an asshole.

  • how fast on the top ? ( top speed )

  • @MrBageren 1987 Porsche 928- broke land speed record for production car= 172

  • @mhickory mate you are a serious dreamer my caldina has beaten skylines with t04e turbos and has can easily beaten hsv clubsport r8's your porsche would get smoked by my car so I wouldn't wanna waste my time, energy and petrol and btw you sound like a 15 yo lol lmao some of these people that are saying the 928 wasn't racing are fucking stupid it's a 20 something year old slow heavy car it's not a bloody 2011 turbo s 911 ffs go for a ride in a import that is modified it will shut you up

  • @Deano86t umm, why did you just repeat yourself??? ignorant.

  • @mhickory and where are your videos of your so called porsche 928 I reckon you are talking out of your arse lol hahaha I actually got videos of my caldina on here when it was basically standard just had the mines ecu put in and untuned and one when it was standard

  • @mhickory mate you sound like a dreamer my caldina has beaten t04e skylines and easily beats hsv ve clubsport r8's etc btw you sound like an angry 15 yo lol and to all the idiots saying the 928 wasn't racing you are really stupid it got smoked by the celica the 928 is an old slow heavy 20 something yo car not some 911 turbo s that is a 2011 model if you think modified imports are so slow why don't you just go in one I have myself been in a 928 porsche and it wasn't fast at all

  • @Deano86t ignorance is bliss. you can modify a caldina, but sorry, you cannot make it look good, bwahaha

  • Porsche 928 > Toyota celica

  • this vid should be called......."the little celica that could"

  • i drove in this road(sneelweg) today...but a lot slower..

  • You can make the Celica faster but you'll never make it better looking.

  • Looks like the 928 smoked the cellica every time they excelerated. The rice burner only pulled ahead when the porsche was done with the race

  • I have a 928. Every day, some little creep in a Japanese sports car wants me to race. I rarely take them on. There are probably many little pricks thinking their car is faster than my Porsche. But that fact remains, the 928 is still, after 20+ years one of the very fastest cars on the road. Not only in a straight line, but through corners as well. It is also one of the most beautiful to look at and to drive.

  • So true. I would take the Porsche over a celica any day.

  • Agreed.. me to, not every day though. That's because most cars in Denmark are under-powered shit-boxes :)

  • @dandini2999 Very true! I wouldn't touch a Porsche normally but the 928 is something special :)

  • true that man, i have an 1984 928S and people try to race me like all the time haha everyone wants to race a porsche

  • @dandini2999 I agree 100% with you on this ,I haven't been able to find many car's that are better (50/50 weight distribution front to rear for example) and properly built as the 928 was "928 Forever"

  • @dandini2999 its fast compared to average modern sports cars like the rx8, s2000, audi rs series, mercedes s class, etc, but not to real modern sports cars tho like the newer porsches, corvettes, etc.

  • @dandini2999 1 second your opinion , I have owned over 6 928S4's over the last 20 years and agree - jap rice crap is just that jap rice crap worthless garbage period!!!

  • ...und tschüss! ;)

  • Hmm lets see. That Porsche looks stock and what japanese car could compare to it in the late 70's.. Not one!!!

It gets worse for the jap crap you are "big up(ing)" as it were.... It takes some after market mods up to stage3 in order to keep up with it. The 928 could have blown the doors off that celica on top end alone, but the driver provably didn't have the need to encourage some zit poppin kid who is just stupid enough to get himself killed.

  • "as usaul german cars are short on passion"

You are a proud little douche aren't you. Making a blanket statement like this instantly puts you in fanboy status. But again you neglected to acknowledge that this Porsche is 30 years old and it can still blow the doors off of the majority of Japanese, and American sports cars(gt-four included). Short on passion...pfft yeah so much for your sad little statement. The Toyota you mentioned is the epitome of a compromised sportscar.

  • the truth usually hurts and you know it to be true as you must be a fanboy to the fatherland yourself but thats ok. we all have our imperfections. 928 isn't a bad car but like i said given its stock engine size you would expect more as i would expect more intelligence from your obviously larger brain yet like the 928 it doesn't perform well for its size. the porshe is a highly developed car and why is this? you only develop something for thirty years because there must have been a lot wrong..

  • Sure I am a fanboy who owns a Honda CRX, Porsche 928, Ducati monster, 53 Chevy sedan delivery and a beat up old ford pickup. In fact I am such a fanboy that I have owned a subaru wrx. Suzuki gsxr, toyota celica, Plymouth fury, Hyundai tiburon etc...and still don't go around talking shit like the little dooooSH! you are. And the Porsche still outperforms many in it's class today so what you are saying is false. Tell me what Toyota could compete with the 928 back then. You are a moron.

  • i have owned far more cars than you've mentioned. i modify cars for a living and know how well engineered various cars are and their capabilities and it is with this knmowledge that i make my case. i know that engineering wise the 3s-GTE engine is engineered better than the porshe's which was my original point. components can be pushed far beyond the limits compared to the porshes. Ipso-facto. if you do your homework you'll know what your talking about is retarded and that you sire are the moron

  • a moron for making it personal and a moron for misunderstanding my point which had nothing to do with what you were talking about i.e performance... you double dooosh moron try not to get out of your baby stroller over it.

  • Haha look who got all but hurt.. I simply called you a moron and somewhat of a fanboy. You have no case to make as a such because a fanboys "opinion" (this is all you have)is one sided. And don't strain yourself using latin words, they don't make you sound any smarter. Certainly nobody else has to believe your stupidity and quite frankly.. I know they don't. But I wonder why you don't answer my question. The answer too inconvenient? What production Toyota do you know that competes with the 928?

  • oh no i'm not hurt. i never got personal you did which suggests you took it personally ( got hurt, boo hoo ). But the answer to your question is simple. GT- four st205 is a competitior ( i know you'll dismiss this ) and ofcourse the twin turbo supra ( and i know you'll pooh pooh that too ) but i'm not a toyota fan even though i have a gt-four st205 i also have an Rx-7 FD. yes it's all opinion which is why i don't take it seriously. which is why i said in my first response. "each to their own."

  • Yes you are dismissed.

1.)The celica you mentioned came 15 years after the porsche in this video.

2.)Comparing an awd car engineered for rally racing to a GT sportscar is something so stupid I can't begin to fathom.

3.)Top speed for the celica 239Km/h

Top speed for the 928 is 275Km/h Bye bye Toyota

4.)The celica was developed for 35 years and according to your standards this must make it the most inept car with far more problems with the engineering.

  • The supra you mentioned is far more competent as a GT and the top speed does trump that of the 928, but again the version you mentioned came 20 years after this Porsche. So when one takes into account the age of the technology and you read some idiot commenting about Porsche's lack of "passion" or how a newer car is engineered better (no shit douche!) or how it doesn't perform well for it's size, without comparing it to cars of its time, well one can't help but notice the inherent absurdity.

  • LOL. the only thing that is absurdly inherent is your predictable answer. Numbers. If numbers were something to go by then the corrolla is best car in the world because it's the most sold car. we know this is not so. Using numbers to prove your point shows your inexperience and lack of vision. what a penis. As for when cars came isn't important. top speed is not so important. its how a car handles, accelerates on the road in the real world. not the pink number crunching one you live in doosh boy

  • you asked what cars compare. i gave you an answer. suck it up.

  • i used to have a Nissan pulsar ( sr20 engine ) 212hp out of the box and it's 0-62 time is close to my GT-four which is 290 hp. power to weight ration and traction means a lot. numbers? pa!! meaningless jargon that people with no understanding of reality on the road fall fail to the numbers like yourself. get on a track and see what's what then come back to me with a decent educated answer. until then. this conversation is over.

  • Like I said you are a sad proud duuushy little hypocrite.. Here you are number crunching yourself and you didn't address any of the points I addressed. You mention a pulsar talk about power to weight, handling and say that top speed doesn't matter. Laughable! And you forget there are plenty of racetracks where an all handling car is worth shit! I can think of five off the top of my head so you suck it up. And lets compare the supra in 20 to a new car then & see if technological standards matter

  • WOW! What was done to the Celica to make it that fast? I had an All Trac Turbo AWD and My 944 NA made it feel slow. My moded 951 made it feel very slow. Its AWSOME seeing a quick Celica out there!

  • Please please please...

Dear Porsche 928 owners and lovers who think no other car exists wich can keep up or beat a 928...

    Do NOT... I repeat...

Do NOT post any command about this video before having READ all previous posts and commands... I will remove all nonsense posts wich will be posted after this one, like I removed most of the previous ones !!!

    Best regards, TTT.

  • What mods did you do to get 337 whp? The stock horse power is 255 Bhp. Thier must be eough mods in it to increase to that much hp to the wheels?

  • Hardly any mods done, BPU like exhaust and air intake... Stock ECU and a little electric boostcontroller to get the boost up from 0,8bar to 1,2bar.

  • Well it looks like all the Porsche owners think they KNOW what happend...

Well they DON´T... the guy driving this 928 STOPPED after this run and he told us that he could not believe what just happend to him...

He wanted us to open the hood so he could see with his own eyes what kind of Toyota engine was able to go that fast...

So in that conversation we explained him this Celica has 337hp and 402nm torque at the wheel because of the 1996 Celica GT4 engine in there with the few mods we made.

  • As the owner of an 85 928 i can guarantee that the 928 was not trying to out run him. In a drag race the Celica would pay away for the 1st 1/8 mile or and it would be a close 1/4 mile. But at speed (100+) the 928 (85+ or with the euro motor) will dust a celica, turbo or otherwise.

  • why then, comparing two whole different cars?..a tuned toyota and a standard 928. If both are standard, the porsche wins easily. Stupidest way to prace the toyota celica (by cheating)

  • So, you were doing 170 mph on the highway? That's what it would take to outrun a 928.

  • BTW Toyota vs Porsche !!!

    Theres a Supra that does 420km/h !!!

Show me a Porsche that does that !!

  • Well...

Firstly porsches are more about GT racing and handling while mixing in confort.

    Secondly, I have never heard of a Supra capable of 260 mph. Though the 9ff team's 911 went over 250mph (409km h).

Also unlike the supra, the 911 is still running strong and raking in profits for it's manufacturer; it wasn't cancelled due to poor sales like the cough* cough* supra...

  • GPS reading 420kmh or is that the stock spedo? Doubtful

  • The 928 actually handles pretty well for a big car. Quite a wide axle, plenty of rubber and the weissach axle mean it takes bends very, very well, especially with sports suspension. I also have a Lotus Elise, thats one of the finest handling cars ever made, so I have something very good to compare.

They aren't expensive either by the way so the $3000 point is pointless.

  • Try to mainain a Porsche at the local Porsche dealer or a Toyota at a local Toyota garage and you will find out the Porsche will kill the amount of money you can spent much faster than any Toyota will...

  • I do all the maintenance myself on my 928 S4 -90 cause its so easy. I run it 10000km this summer and all I had to do was to change the oil...

And its easy to mod the 928 and get 500hp on the wheels. Just buy a blower. All cars can be modded and u can get alot more speed and acceleration from a porsche 928 compared to a celicia ad it doesnt have to cost more.

But as original the 928 is rocksolid and dont need much more than services if you keep the intervals and they are easy to do yourself.

  • I work on my 944 and my 951, they are the easiest car I have ever worked on. Theres nothing to them

  • "The 928 actually handles pretty well for a big car."

Yeah it is quite a big car. You can fit two passengers in it and a shitzu puppie in the back. Plus with the full long box you can fit a queen or king bed in it. Quite a big car. Almost as big as a mini cooper.

  • Inside the 928 really is a 2 seater (that much I agree with you), but the actual dimensions of the car are large. Your confusing the inside of the car with the overall size of the car which is a pretty stupid thing to do. You wouldn't say an Enzo is a small car because it only fits 2 people would you? Well, you might.

The width at the rear is over 6ft wide, the length of the car is just under 15ft. The bonnet is immense.

Its a very large coupe, a lot bigger than the Mini Cooper....lol

  • "but the actual dimensions of the car are large."

Width does NOT equal size. Height and width make size. Ever here of "volume". That is size. Lack of interior space is mathematical proof of the size of the car. In fact the 928 has cramped engine space since car is low down (small volume)

The 928 is not large like a 5 door Benz but is the weight of one. Porsche failed. Also my 924 turbo had a lot of wasted space in the fenders that could have been made usable with compartments - FAIL!

  • 924? Thats not even a Porsche!

  • dude i have three of those that is a fucking Porsche just google image Porsche 928 and you will see

  • I was talking about the 924 not the 928. The 924 is an Audi/Porsche callaboration.

  • "The width at the rear is over 6ft wide, the length of the car is just under 15ft. The bonnet is immense."

You are confusing width with volume. It is the same as someone who thinks a banana is extremely large, nearly as large as a watermelon because the banana is very long and spread out. The hood of the 928 may be very long but the engine compartment tells the true story of size, which equals volume. It is cramped. The wasted space in the 928 are the fender air. It is too heavy regardless.

  • You are talking out of your ass,

  • Apparently u dont know anything about Porsche 928... It got 50/50 weightdis, passive rearwheel steering and an extrem high lowend tourqe and it would outrun your toyota on a track anyday. And it looks better, is nicer to drive and nowdays doesnt cost much more either.

Porsche never said anything about it being bad in anyway. They considered it to be the best car they have ever built. But in the end it got to expensive with all its onboard tech.

Drive it and u will not look at a toyota again.

  • Sorry I have been driving one once... And yes it is fast but it could NOT change the way I look at Toyota... Sorry for that... I still prefer this Celica above any 928.

  • I have no problem with the celica being quicker, it will with those mods. As I've said the 928S is 28/29 years old now so theres no shame. I could pop a new engine in the old girl and make her quicker again but where does it stop? You can mod any car after all.

I still much prefer the look of any 928 over the Celica though.

  • I know of Volkswagen busses that goes faster than that Toyota so maybe they are the best cars ever made :)

No seriosly if u look at technoligy, suspension, brakes, chassi, engine, comfort, looks, handling and joy of driving then the Porsche is alot better than the Celicia on every points.

I always run to the garage when I´m going to take a ride in mine cause I´m so excited and long after all long drives and well maybe that says something about the Porsche 928 after owning it for 3 years

  • I beg to differ. Over steer in the celica and 50/50 weight distribution in the porsche. tough call

  • Humm, in my 928, I've tipped my speedo well beyond the 170mph mark and continued pulling well into the 180mph range... I don't know how fast you were going in this video, but I've given a modified Lancer EVO VIII the ole' roadrunner beep beep around 150mph (in 4th gear no less) and walked away from him like he was standing still.

  • this Celica runs into the rev limmiter in 5th gear... it keeps pulling until it hits that same rev limmiter... look at some of our other vids and you will see...

top speed (because the gearbox is at its end) is about 260km-hour...

  • I want to race you in my moded 951 to see how she does against a 928. I can never find one that will race

  • By now the Celica has been sold but a new project is coming up... Same engine, smaller car... :)

  • Thats awsome, what kind of car are you building up now?

  • The car has already been build, but there are some problems wich need to be solved before new movies will be posted...

    It's a Toyota Starlet, model 1986-1990.

  • wow...talk about a sleeper. LOL

    ;)

  • Man i gave you a 5 star, yes i do beleiver that. A turbo St162 would defently keep up!

  • that is so stupid, there is no way a toyoto can beat a porsche, let alone a V8 porsche. and its obvious that he wasnt trying to pull away, or he would have done so.

  • You keep believing that, we know better...

The Celica pulled 337hp and 402nm torque with only 1080kilo's...

A 928 at his best has 330hp and 430nm but they always have 1580 kilo's to get moving so he was like 500kilo TOO heavy according to this Celica...

If a 928 wants to outrun this Celica, they have to go on a FIRM diet first and try to lose about 500kilo's...

  • actually my 928S euro has 525hp thank you very much...... but i do agree with you TTT. (ill just call you TTT) the 928 is an absolute tank of a car. believe me.. i drive one!

  • I know I drove one of our neigber once...

It's the same with Toyota's 1986-1993 Supra... Less power but the "tank" feeling is there as well, for sure... I know that because I own one of those...

Wich year is your 928? As online I only found the numbers I mentioned...

  • its an 1982 928S euro spec. VERY RARE. i love her despite the fact she weighs 3200lbs. surprisingly, she handles quite well even for a modern sports car. and i know why. if you get under the early 5 speeds like mine, you will notice there isnt any transmission connected to the engine. all you see is a bell housing. then you notice a quite large rear diff. thats not just a differential, thats the transmission and the rear diff. its called a transaxle. they did that to even the weight out to 50/50

  • "surprisingly, she handles quite well even for a modern sports car."

Huh? Modern sports cars don't handle well? 928 is a modern sports car? what?

  • no i wasnt calling the car a modern sports car, i was comparing it to a modern sports car. but now that i read my comment i see its VERY easy to perceive it that way. my bad =)

  • I personnaly could care less about Celicas.

The Porsche 928 is way cooler.

If it was a Euro model, it would have a rear fog light (to the left of the license plate).

I think he didn't wanta race a Toyota.

  • This thread is funny.

I've got a european 928S, and if that Celica has the GT4 engine and its modified, my old beast wouldn't stand a chance....there's nothing wrong with that.

We're talking about a car thats 28 years old and its a GT. Its big and heavy...and still looks great, but its not that quick byb todays standard. It looks cool as f*ck though.

  • So whats the Celica had done to it then?

  • Well the Celica lost some weight (complete interior stripped out) and got a 1995 Celica GT4 powerplant, stock enough for 255bhp and in this car enough for 337hp running at 1,2bar boost pressure and 402nm torque... Mesured during a dynorun...

  • lol!Either that is a US type automatic with 240 hp, or there is some serious issus with that car. Ive got a 928 S man and I outrun my friends Celica all day.

  • Nope, it was a 315hp european version... We stopped at the next fuel station and he came after us to check things out as he could not believe we outrun him...
