the figure that got me into colecting was powermaster prime was my most treasured toy as a kid and parents forced me to get rid of it and give it away broke my heart, later when i was older and able to buy off ebay i got the reissue and an original then and mp prime and now i got more tfs than i had when i was a kid, joy joy joy. i have prowl too and he is an awsome figure bluestreak too
@robpeter1 When I finally got hold of Bluestreak i felt even more excitement then when I got Prowl. I know they are the same mold, but I had a friend who had Bluestreak, and I remember wanting it so much. The benefit of being a collector is you are able to satisfy that childhood ambition. Lol
@WolfKang1 yea i was the same i had neither as a kid but always wanted them tfs were hard to get in the 80s and was always hunting around until they disapeared all together in the 90s g1 that is, and as for bluestreak theres just something about the red silver and black i love it, i recomend the classics one also it rocks, i understand about the childhood thing i embrace mine i think others should its good for you, love your vids man you rock, love to write an album with you, rob
Great video Gerard! Yeah, Hasbro does get a bit cheap with paint apps, don't they? Great figure. This was one of my very first TFs as a kid and I cannot tell you how many times I transformed him. I absolutely love this figure. I must have been one of a few kids who didn't care too much about articulation, lol. Hey, I need to get one of your CDs.
@DoctorPrime ... I can completely understnad where you are coming from Dan. I would have ruined this figure by over playing with it if I had had it. Anytime you are on Skype, come find me. I can send you everything we have recorded so far for free. :)
@cobaltprime73 ... Thanks. I wanted it to be something I had never owned. And I always loved Prowl in the cartoons and comic, so considering he was going for a decent price I thought "Why not?"
good ye olde fashionede review. I do love these old G1 car robots; they may be fiddly and strewn with detachable bits, but they do look and handle wonderfully. I always hated how ignominious his death was in the original 1986 movie; he always seemed to be one of the more significant bots in the preceeding cartoon series. Not that it really mattered, since he popped up constantly as a background character in season 3 despite being a bit dead. Good stuff. Hope all's well.
@ExaggeratedElegy Yes, the death, sadly along with many others throughout the course of the animated movie, were quite sudden and unexpected. I appreciate that they had to get the story told, but the deaths seemed almost "oh well, what does it matter?". There was not any consequence or anything, except perhaps discounting the ramifications of the last fight between Megs and Prime. As for this toy, he stands proud in my collection. Well conceived, well designed, and the weight feels good...
@WolfKang1 ... In your hand. Again, there is much to be said for Die cast metal in the overall construction. This little bastard however, does have a lot to answer for. I have so many bots now. And it's all thanks to him.
@WolfKang1 great review as always Gerard, I got me a Takara reissue Prowl, it was previously opened, it is in fairly good shape except there is a little bit of piant chipping near the rear wheel and also the guy who used to owned it also probably smoked around it, and the top section kinda turned yellow, a bit, but I cant complain since I got it for about less than $30 including shipping, and that is a very good deal considering the Takara ones are more expensive than the Hasbros.
@WolfKang1 I also got me a brand new MISB Hasbro reissue red alert for $43.50 including shipping, I had a KO red alert but I was not too happy with the quality, has some paint splatter around the wheel and the stickers are shit, peeling off the paint job from the figure, also I managed to get me a loose sunstreaker in great condition, but that one cost me $85 with shipping, since some bidders were bidding at the last moment for it, it shows you that figure is in high demand.
@rick4777 ... I was lucky enough to get both Sunstreaker and Prowl pretty cheap. You're right about Sunstreaker being in high demand. When I was looking to purchase one, I had to really think carefully about how much i wanted to spend on him. Luckily, I got the main robot for only £10. Putting him back together again 100% complete MIB has cost me in the region of about £40 to £45 which is fucking impressive. Glad to hear you managed to pick them up though. They are brilliant for a collection.
@WolfKang1 awesome wolf!, you never get tired of looking at them on your shelf right next to eachother, funny enough, I got into collecting G1 figures because of the movie, even though I hate the movie figures, I came across a picture of Masterpiece Megatron and I said "I got to get me that one", but the first ever figure I got was MP Prime, the I eventually got me MP Megatron, and it took off from there!, love the shit out of my collection!! LOL
Being a fan of Prowl's character I really do love the toy and the mold is very good as well, the detail on the figure especially during the days of G1 are nicely well pleased and the diecast is what made alot of the G1 figures treasures to own as well, great figures like this are what make Transformers toys worth owning. Great stuff Gerard.
@Skullgrin140 ... Indeed Sami. In fact, I would Hasbro to go back to incorporating some die cast into their toys. Sadly we all know this never going to happen. I do feel though that they have kinda lost something special along the way. But G1 was responsible for this in the first place. Sometimes cost cutting measures impact heavily on the sense of excitement and wonder that the very early G1's were capable of invoking.
I'm supposed to be doing The Stunticons next but I think I'll do a response to this, assuming I can find the 2 toys that Trish got me. I can't do the first one(s) I bought (G1 Soundwave and Alternator Ravage) as a collector because I've already done them
I love this toy, it just feels like a proper model car, the detail, the fragile quality, the stickers, chrome and rubber, it's just on another level really. I notice his panels now a lot more as an adult collector but I still love him. great stuff
@damnyouhussies ... The level of detail is incredible in the early G1's. And as I say in the review, it's nice to see that they kept the finer details in when it came to the re-issues. Die cast metal for me was a big surprise. The chromed weapons would have been the perfect touch though, but I guess Hasbro are getting a little cheap in their old age. Lol
@CelloMachachillo ... Thank you! My only gripe with this video is because the light isn't perfect... Or even remotely sunny outside, the camera kept going out of focus. I don't know why, but it really annoys me when that happens. As for the mug, it's a cat. Lol
I hate to say my guys (as it took 3) but after things had leveled out a bit as I got older. I recieved beast wars Dinobot when i got real sick, then years later R.I.D. Prowl (which confused the hell out of me at the time cause I wasn't aware of the series), and then *sigh* saw Armada Hotshot... Although I pan the figure and character now, I do owe the toy that spot of rememberance....*shudder*. Let the jeers and insults flow lol.
@Dragonsbane025 ... I am not going to hate on you for getting Armada Hotshot. To be honest, I bought Pretender Grimlock, so I can hardly cast the first stone here! Lolo
What rekindled my interest was the 2001 (?) reissue of Starscream. The one that came packaged in a replica G1 Japanese box.
I recall, I was feeling a tad nostalgic about the toyline/series, so I decided to look them up online. I knew nothing of TF fansites, online stores and the like, and by chance of luck, I came across an article on the figure. Saying something along the lines of, "Limited edition! Get it now before it's too late"...So, how could I refuse? (Continued in next post)
@pathosis (Cont.) ....Little did I know, that the figure would be re-released a million times afterwards.
I just so happen to have the same version of Prowl. Yeah, it's weird how inconsistent the chromed weapons are with the Hasbro Commemorative toys. Some come chromed, while some don't. Interesting thing to note, even though the weapons for this Prowl are altered, with a very slight bit of force, the original chrome missiles will fit in the launchers.
@pathosis ... Really? Come to think of it, I had heard that the missiles were changed, but I didnt know the originals could be used. I bought the re-issue of Starscream too. That was after I purchased Skywarp and Red Alert though. Owning Starscream again after so many years was a delightful nostalgia experience I must admit.
I see a contingency occurring. What Transformer re-kindled your love for the hobby? I think I might partake in this. Very good review Gerard (name okay? =/ ). I do not officially own any Generation 1 Transformers, other than Prime (a large gap in my collection, I know); so it's great to see reviews of bots I'm not familiar with.
@MrJohnjohn35 ... We all have to start somewhere. I would be interested in seeing as many responses to this as possible, as clearly, people are coming from a multitude of different angles on this one as well as toylines and continuities.
great review! it was a coworker that was into collecting transformers and i routinely made fun of him for it until he brought in a misb reissue of tracks and then it was all over for me. happily.
@nemesispeaugh ... I bet now you are probably the one that people mock for having a plastic collection. It's time to convert someone just as you were converted. Long may the tradition continue.
This is one crazy coincidence but the toy that got me back into TF's was Classics 2.0 Prowl. G1 feel plus crazy good articulation they said. Sign me up! And thus my wallet did howl with despair.
@TransformingToybox ... I never got the classics version of Prowl, although there have been times that I have considered doing so. I know what you mean about the wallet howling in protest. Mine has done that far too many times over the course of the last 4 years. Lol
great review. I was the same way. I took my nephew shopping and saw Beast Wars Depthcharge and Rampage on sale for half price. I watched the show and something told me to get them. I did and then the transformers addiction from childhood began again. Prowl was someone that I didn't have as a child. One trip on ebay..and the G1 obession began
@donovanjd3 ... Yeh well, it only takes one toy (or in your case, two) to get hooked into spending your money on plastic. One of those hobbies that is entirely harmless, but at the same time, you know there are probably better things in the world to spend that money on. Lol
Really nice toy, I've always wanted a lot of the G1 toys, I've managed to pick up some loose and a couple of the reissues. But Prowl thus far has eluded me altogether, one day!! Whats odd is I picked up the reissue Skids and he had all of his chrome accessories.
That's the toy that got you back into it. I wonder are there toys out there that pushed people out of the hobby? Though I imagine it would be harder to find testimonials on that.
@Orniphus Glad you enjoyed the review. Probably anything from the Action Master range was probably enough to kill off peoples love of the franchise altogether. Lol
Awesome review Gerard, I also watched rays review and was thinking that would be a great idea for a review. So thanks to ray and you my next review is also going to be the figure that got me back into collecting lol You need to make reviews more often Gerard I really enjoy your reviews.
