The symbol on the album jacket reminds me of True cigarettes. This song is so different than "Eternity" or the "Buried Dreams" LP that this yank first heard in the states and every record company executive in the US should have been shot for giving us Men Without Hats and A fuckin' Flock of Seagulls instead of art like this!
got this album sitting in my basement but no record player... thanks for adding this. and finally see it on youtube the band playing. great stuff after all these years., cheers to Paul74W
This is a staggering thing of beauty, its dirty, foul, rancid but its exhillarting, you didn't live through that period you survived, some didn't, this is wonderful.
The memories of great music and haircuts...(When i could still get one).! Thanks for the upload i have now regressed back to the early 80,s, where did i leave my bowie trousers.?!! ;-)
Dear IndieAnnieJones, this rules!! -- thanks for all these magical uploads. Your music collection is to die for. I was rather too young to appreciate all this music the first time round, so I feel lucky to live in an era where it can be digitally archived and enjoyed by myself and anyone who cares to listen. Will you be my friend on YouTube? Best wishes!
I always loved this track, and the evocative Neville Brody sleeve, where the little clock logo shows a different time on different releases. Glad to hear it again; sounds as fresh as ever.
A little anecdote. I was on holiday in Amsterdam when I first heard this song in a record shop circa 82. I bought the album: it blew me away. This band was ahead of it's time and time didn't wait. Almost 30 yrs later they still strike a disturbing sleep note in their lyrics and sound. You would have to put them in context of their generation and they did cut a unique tune. Excellence!
amazingly dark... the perfect resemblance of a surreal scene..., the bass is mesmerising. the rythm itself is spellbinding.... the voice is mesmerising gloomy. me encanta!!!

clock dva are fucking amasing . this to me is punk or what punk could have and should have been brilliant. punk now is cornflakes in the morning without cold milk .
Never entered a forum such as this before, but what the hell. I played guitar on this record - and on the Thirst album. Glad that so many people still seem to like it, even after all these years. One take - very few overdubs. Charlie plays the squeals - baritone sax through an analogue echo. Sorry front131 - but I think it sounds great! Top lyric too. Pfishy69 - only film of this line up was Futurama as far as I know (you can see it on youtube) but if you find anything else, let me know... PW
Thanks for your reply Paul...Any chance of you guys playing together again? I did see you at FUTURAMA 79 but remember the TV gig seemed very swish and seemed better organised ( sorry) i have an audio cassette recording direct from the TV because it was before the days of VCR recorders..it may remain a mystery ..
I assume you refer to Paul browse if so he had nothing to do with 4 Hours or THIRST, DVA was Founded in 1977 he has been involved on 2 Albums only Advantage 1983 and Buried Dreams 1988 . if it was directed to Paul Widger then he was the Guitarist however the ORIGINAL Track was composed by Adi Newton /Steven Turner / and David Hammond the original guitarist.pre THIRST.
Hello CDVATV, I guess, somewhere along the way I messed up my information about the line-up... and mixed up the two Pauls :) All clear now. Thanks for reminding me. CDVA I really love - the concept, the music, all of the albums are great in their own right. Respects to you and the two Pauls.
@LaraLW Those were the times, brilliant time.since punk (in76 it was punk ) dropped as a atomicbomb in my life at 15 Life would never be the same again.SO MANY beautiful music i saw heardand danced on,so many unbelievable fantastic people i met, many of them are not among us anymore, tomorrow i go to a funeral from a friend. They shall never forgotten, our mates, and also the music,so thanx to the people who made this music,it changed our life!!!!
LOL, As it happens, I might be changing my mind on that, just had a hankering to listen to the song again, prompted no less by that squeal cropping up incidentally elsewhere; it's taken a good few years mind but at least I'm coming around! Still a massive song though, and still as fresh as ever, which is extraordinary really.
@Paul74W My first experience of the day after a night without sleep was at Fururama II, and you guys turned my 17 year old brain inside out... Will never forget that experience : )
@Paul74W So good to hear from you, Paul!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this. I recently discovered Clock DVA through a friend of mine in Wales, and I cannot get enough. Still so poignant today. Wish music was still this good, but at least, we always have great underground stuff like this. Thanks.
@Paul74W thanks man.. It has been years since I got to last hear this song. Last time was driving between the remains of Atari Coinop in Milpitas and my Hotel in San Jose. That would have been November of 2003. I was dumb and took my only copy of that CD with me on the trip.. I was even dumber and left it in the rental car when I flew out. I have been looking for this again ever since..
@Paul74W Well, here's my thanks to you and your bandmates for making such wonderful music. It must be surreal to have random strangers from across the globe write gushing notes like this to you, but I'm so glad it's archived here and that I can hear it -- hooray for YouTube. Best wishes to you. Cheers from the midwestern U.S.
Does anyone remember a televised concert ( it wasnt Futurama) with loads of indie stuff..throbbin gristle,, clockdva, fad gadget ,young marble giants, souxsie, etc about 20 bands doing 1 or 2 tracks hosted by a radio 1 DJ ...think it was ITV about 1980 ish ? or is my mind playing tricks
I looove this track when I first heard it I had to stop the car to listen I bought the album next day-got stolen
