  • Real name: James Harold Young. This was the original 1962 release version of the song that became a bigger hit in 1965 for the Sir Douglas Quintet. Huey P. ("The Crazy Cajun")Meaux produced this, and the 1965 remake. Originally released on the Eric label, it made Billboard's pop charts. I read this was actually a big seller, until the NAACP raised objections to the "Big Sambo" name.
