I loved this ever since I heard it played at the BBC Proms many years ago. I next heard it whilst on a BA flight to Los Angeles, now I can add it to my Favourites on YouTube! Thank you!
Stalin said to Roosevelt: In America all the Armenians run cheap resturants or write silly books like your Saroyan. In the USSR, Armenia produces brilliant artists.

This is the definitive waltz of all! How can I thank you for creating this video? It brought tears to my eyes and transported me to a new world, like in Disney's "Fantasia 2000"!
The most fantastic walz! I just love the way it keeps going - Typical Russian, even in its happy parts you can feel the sorrow. I have been to Skt. Petersburg and love the great country. This brings me back when I listen to great music like this. Russia is all about great emotions and feelings - happy and sad.
@Janbeckeriksson Khachaturian is Armenian actually. Although of course there was some Soviet Russian influence but he was very culturally influenced by his Armenian background. It is great I agree!
@Janbeckeriksson Khachaturian wasn't Russian; he was a full-blooded Armenian at a time when our country was still part of the Soviet Republic. And the melodies you hear are influences of Armenian folk music as well ;)
And yes, this piece is very beautiful. I once played this with my colleague in a piano duet. Phenomenal piece by Khachaturian - we Armenians are very proud of his work.
Lovely music and film... only criticism: this music has been composed in 1943, so it wouldnt be correct to use it as source music (also called on-music, i.e. happening in the reality of the film). However, for the viewer it gives a nice emotional basis on which they both fall in love ;-).

Ah, I see now. From the movie. I wonder why the director didn't use the amazing Prokofiev waltz.

a little unsettling
remind the prelude of a battle
which fits the context in the film

In my opinion, it's played a bit too fast. It sounds like the musicians have to hurry up - that's why a part of the emotion is lost.
