  • Hmm, The 80's was when the mos amazing music was invented...:) and now we have a lot of so called "music' yeah okay..

  • This bassline is too funky to be legal.

  • good track, didn't appreciate it when i first was introduced to it, not as good as "save a prayer". saw them play this song on the pop trash tour and for the sax parts, simon played a harmonica, def didn't have the same effect

  • Great!

  • A saxophone's sound is so sexy, they should change the name to a sexyphone

  • todays music sucks ass because all the master pieces of the 80s and 90s are already taken now they dont have anything to write about now a days it seems like alot of people has turned to rap dont let the 80s and 90 rock die

  • @Thefahdsyed:everything that you feel, don't ever think you'r alone. you said it right

i also wiss wass like the microsoft years.when every thing was good. but today we deal with a bunch of politcal idiots.ah!! i spelled idiot right but politcal well let's just say idiots run the country today.i miss ragan, bush the father not the son, cliton i love the boobes cliton.i a gree how you feel vector storm!

    :D

    Well, I love Duran Duran!

  • i love Duran Duran videos. hot women with SHAPE in bikinis!!! and close up shots, wet bathing suits....totally hot!!!

  • Oh how I loved these boys back in the day!

  • ..her name is RIO and she dances in the sand (L)

  • This video is the definition of coolness!

  • before there were dumb ass hackers in the 80's!

  • LOVE THE CAM-TOE CLOSE UP AT 18:00

  • great song... i love the 80s music... better than post 2000... its very modern, advanced fashion and much fun than now!!!

  • her name is rio and she danses on the sand, man i love this song. reminds me of summertime

  • @RokaSoka you said it

  • BJ Lawson stop interfering with good music!

  • You know you're something special and you look like Fred Astaire.

Very special actually almost as special as me.

  • This is so 1982.

  • i watched the first time it played on Mtv

  • agreed...bass is strong...and john taylor was my favorite! he's so hot!

  • GIA CARANGI !! A stunning beauty ahead of her time, so precious, taken so young. R.I.P

  • @KLE34

Hi there, just wanna say this isnt Gia...i've search in the wikipedia and the models name was Reema Ruspoli...she is very lookalike Gia.

    I love Gia!

  • god damn the 80's were TERRIBLE

  • @aferrebee69 No they were'nt - they were great & grand days !

  • I must say that this is a Classic, and must be preserved as all great cultural film work is preserved. Why?

First, the song is excellent. Second, this is one of the first music videos, so, it's culturally significant. Third, the cinematography is beautiful. The color usages remind me of the film "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" with Catherine Deneuve in her first film. Fourth, the "storyline" for the band is humorous, like The Beatles were in "A Hard Day's Night." A true classic for the ages.

  • Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand

Just like that river twisting through a dusty land

And when she shines she really shows you all she can

Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande

  • Does anyone remember how this song was premiered on The Tube - and how DESPERATE we all were to see it?

  • say look at the saxophonist go at 3.18

  • yeah but who is this girl on 1:43

  • if you want to know the name of the model go to my channel

  • I'm 14 and I love duran duran *.*

  • @DevilPt9 dude im 14 too. i got plenty of classics on my page! check them out!

  • this is so 80s it hurts my little digital generation brain

  • prob my fave video EVER!!! my Rio record was totally worn out... best times cutting school to wait in line for their show!!!! good times...(sigh)

  • Damm Good Song

  • Aaag,Ads!

    **reaches for mute button**

  • fucking 80's cool: to wear a short sleeved blue shirt and a gold tie on a boat where the women are wearing nothing much

  • there is a chance there was one extra man on that boat and one less woman but we may never know for sure

  • Hey, Duranies. I was a 13-15 for their video hey day but it's unforgettable. These guys made getting the girl a romantic and adventurous thing. Not the zero sum game that it's made out to be by society. Anyway, my regards to you all. I like the positive feelings surrounding this re-mastered piece of art. May we all steal a few moments in own Rio with the girl in this lifetime...... See you guys @ World Cup !

  • I was just on a boat cruise in Turkey listening to this song - pure bliss.

Here's too all the duranies out there

  • i was 18 in 1981, and let me tell you, love was free, and love i did as many hot chicks i could, just like gene simmons!!!!! basically the only thing you caught was taken care of with a pill!!!!!

  • I once read that the guys in Duran Duran had a hard time meeting women. I wander if that was true?

  • This was (and still is) one of the best songs DD have ever made! Sooo great!

  • vijftien 15-jarigen!!!!!

  • esta banda es buena pero la mayoria de los seguidores son gays sin ofender a los que no son gays los que son normales

  • i loveto play this song when i go sailing, exept i dont wear an avocado green suit, not becouse i dont like it but becouse i cant find one... oh rio rio heads across the rio grand. beautifull boat by the way

  • This really is a quality song, great from beginning to end. Another DD song i really like is Planet Earth.

  • I was 20yrs old in 1983 when mtv was really starting to take off, the music of that time was great, if you were in your twenties through the 80's it was a blast.

  • @sjhoffman63 the year i was born. grew up to synth and spandex. but got a good taste of the 90's which i think better better to grow up in. maybe not for music though.

  • Duran are the pioneers of style-music-videos.Still the best band.I think this one voted of the top 100 best music videos

  • Of all the 80's bands, Duran Duran had style when it came to fashion, more than any other band. Oh and lets not forget their music, 80's classic.

  • this was back in the time when music was great

  • Gotta love those Miami Vice pastels!

  • AHH BACK IN THE DAY WISH I COULD GET MY FRIEND TO LEARN THE SAX SOLO!

  • Oh Shlt i cant listen to this crap

  • Nick+John+Roger+Andy+Simon = Rio

  • Simply,The Best Video

  • I love the way Simon Le Bon (what kind of a name is that for a Brummie?!) is wearing a short sleeved shirt and a tie in this video. Priceless!

  • @pix042 lol and a suit on the boat...only in the 80s!

  • @pix042 He wasn't a Brummie, the rest of the band were, he was the boyfriend of a girl the Taylor brothers knew in The Rum Runner in Broad Street, Broad Street and they needed a replacement for the original singer Stephen 'Tin Tin' Duffy who thought he would be more famous if he went solo (What a mistake, apart from his one hit Kiss Me) I think Simon was from the London Area. I am a Brummie by the way.

  • I still can't believe the female model in this video is actually genetically a guy... would never have known!

  • @windman151 if that is true then I am not surprised, tell the truth

  • @windman151 What is this?

  • My favorite Duran Duran song of all time!!!! This has got to be one of the best bands in the world!!!! And they still sound up-to-date. :)

    -Linda Daemon- /DRUGZONE/

  • @Stephenalverez What is a Moonbeam?

Best video, 1982... Simon looks very good here, doesn't he?

  • This is such a cool video!

  • The 80's were so cool, i only lived thorugh them for 1 year and about 3 months but i can still realize that the pop music of that decade was far superior to todays, if i was in a dance club and wasted i might actually dance to this, the best thing you can do with todays pop music is hit the "stop" button.

  • God, these videos are ridiculous

  • La estetica de los Duran siempre marco tendencia...han sido vanguardistas,a su manera...magnifico video, los 80 en su maximo esplendor...!

  • Does no one notice the boat? it's a Moonbeam, famous for being arguably the most beautiful boat in the world! great song, hysterical video!

  • @Stephenalverez

The boat is actually Eilean, a 1936 Bermudan Ketch now owned by Panerai the luxury watch company. I agree she's a real beauty.

  • veryyy gooddddddddddddd me encanta este video p los que saben de music ...

  • 80's サイコー

  • wasn't this like the second or third video ever played on MTV?

  • @sallie46 Yeah, when MTV actually played music videos.

  • @sallie46 wasnt this like the second or third helping of who gives a shit?

  • @juggernautjigsaw99 Seriously - I'm laughing. Guess you missed the light drama of MTV in it's infancy.... have a great day.

  • wasn't this like the second or third video ever played on MTV? Such a cool group back then....

  • I like how suits were worn in any scenario in the 80s. So fitting

  • This is on Dam Good Video... I love The 80's...

  • This Vid should Have 15 billion Views Not 400,000

  • Duran Duran are great!!!

  • At 1:40 those plastic kiddee phones crack me up!!!!

  • I love Duran Duran!! Another great band from the 80's!!

  • el mejor tema de duran duran

  • THE ENTIRE 80S IN A NUTSHELL

    l

  • Oh John como tocas ese saxo!!! jajajaja . BELLISIMO HOMBRE POR DIOS!!!!!!!!

  • Man...it's been said before, but i wish i was a teenager in the 80's. I was too young to have all the fun that you could have.

Although i must say..it was pretty kick-ass being a kid in the 80's as well. The best cartoons and the absolutely best toys.

  • @TheFahdSyed : I was a teenager in the 80's and I can tell you it was a great great time. The world had balance (ussr vs usa), music was great, hope was everywhere. we were all looking forward to the 21st century and people thought that great things would be achieved before the year 2000. girls were hot before they got all the grundge look etc in the 90s. and as for post 2000, what a let down. If I could go back in a time machine, i would be back to 1985-1986 in two seconds.

  • @indodesi Yesssss....an imaginative view of the world!!!!

  • @indodesi AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @indodesi That's for sure. Back in Feb 1985 I was banging Brenda H and it was an experience of a lifetime! 1985 was the best year of my life.

  • @indodesi I agree with you 100% I miss the 80s.

  • @indodesi What? Grunge was great and the chicks were hot. How can you blame the 90s? The 90s were great! It's todays music and looks that suck ass.

  • @Torkan91 i grew up in the 80s, after the punk scene. between that and the hair bands (which i like, Def Leppard for one), there was that stuff, all electronics and earily Madonna (her newer stuff is good), Flock of seagull stuff....then after rock was Grunge which was good, borderline great....now today is absolute CRAPOLA!!! some good bass lines and such but nothing with any stamina (sp). Only think i can say, Eminem is around 10 years now, hes got it going 4 himself. a white rapper LOL!

  • @lowzone69 Yeah well, there are few bands/artists that make music now a days that I can enjoy. For example Opeth, Deadmau5 and Pendulum. But those bands are not stuff you will hear on the radio (which is sad). It just feels like everything mainstream is bad now a days. I mean, I don't listen to a lot of pop but I still like old songs and bands even in that genre. Rap as well, people who think that all rap is like eminem and lil wayne is just ignorant. Old school rap is some good shit.

  • @indodesi Amen, brother. You said it.

  • @TheFahdSyed I was a teen in the 80s -- it really was a great time! We had so much great music. :)

  • @TheFahdSyed ...i was a teenager then and it was great...wish i could turn back the clock...

  • @TheFahdSyed yes well said and great deays to have such fun even though i was only a child too

  • @TheFahdSyed

It wasn't that great mate (if you were as uncool as I was, er and still am), at least you being younger than me had much better video games and a better choice of telly channels to pick from. My first computer was a ZX Spectrum with a 16k memory!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh god I sound like me Dad now.

  • @TheFahdSyed , 70s toys were better, seems you missed out on everything by 10 yrs ;]

  • So sexy.

  • my name is rioooooooooooooo

    w0wzzzzzzzzzz

so so so .... fantastics im like a 80s virgin x)

    So glamorous

Hi all from basque country !!

  • music is dead now nothing can defeat duran duran hes a master of his art !

  • Just a note here: The bassline is GREAT. In fact, you have to hear the bass in all Duran Duran songs. Back then, in 1989, Rolling Stone Magazine selected John Taylor in their list of BEST BASS PLAYERS of the 80's

  • @Pitirreboricua damn right, John Taylor is a GOD of bass!

  • @Pitirreboricua i love bass. been playin for 6 years

  • @Pitirreboricua totally agree, the amount of notes he hits per verse is pretty ridiculous

  • the saxophone scene reminds me of the scene in the Nightmare on Elm Street 2 when Jesse is cleaing his room! ha

  • i saw this song was in a jukebox at a bar. so after all this metal music this came on because of me! ha!!

  • I was a teen in the 80's and it was FUN! :D

  • I MISS TOO MUCH 80´S MUSIC... AND THE ERA OF THE NEW ROMANTIC CREATED BY THESE MONSTERS CALLED DURAN DURAN.... DONT FORGET THEM! LA GRINGA FROM BS AS/ ARGENTINA

  • awesomeness in its pure state

  • I know this song and i'm nine.

  • Very Impressive sound for an old school video.

  • Best bassline of the 80's.

  • LUV THIS SONG

  • Great video. Love, love the sailboat. ---Elena

  • I loved John Taylor, not Simon le bon

  • @jenex98520 thanks good to know... I put it in my records...

  • So which one of the guys in the band actually played the saxophone?

  • this is a great song and vidoe but Hedley did such a great remake of this! :)

  • love this bass line

  • I loveee it! love duran duran

  • Horrible video, excellent song. Makes me want to go sailing.

  • @skyeyedmusic YOU RETARD!!! Fucking GREAT video! You BUFFOON!! ;P

  • Apparently for the World Cup Duran Duran re-released this as a football anthem:

"His name is Rio & he watches from the stand while we played in South Africa your sitting on your hands, oh Rio Rio why couldnt you stay fit? and then we realised its because your actually shit"...

  • the worst fake red sky effect in history

  • @jasonj2008 WRONG you BUMSHUNT!!! ;)

  • @ariesscorpiorising ...wat the fuck is a bumshunt?

  • @pikapal1993 a BUMBANDIT

  • @pikapal1993

    ButtPirate?

  • i know that chick!

  • I wish I was around in the 80s, born in the 70s, grew up in the 80s

  • @XciTeGamingClan I DID- was FUCKIN ACE!!!!!!!!

  • duran duran was the best and was not even born in that time

  • im only 12 but i love this song man i could sing to it all day oh rio rio

  • why the fuck disable embed??? You fucking pieces of shit EMI!!!

  • She has like a size 11 foot, its long and ugly.

  • @agenthelios You are a GAYLORD!!

  • Best 80's video.

  • Duran Duran and Rio; a good music video and popular with MTV. This one made me stare, because I had never seen body paint before; and I was trying to see if the swimsuit was painted on: Something the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue started doing, body paint swimsuits, so good it is hard to tell the difference. Now with digital television, the sneaky girl is obviously in a body painted swimsuit, they also painted over the swimsuit, so she is dressed; but fun to look at.

  • Here's a topic for discussion: Which of these lyrics from Rio is the dumbest?

    A) "Cherry ice cream smile, I suppose it's very nice."

    B) "I've seen you on the beach and I've seen you on TV."

    C) "It means so much to me like a birthday or a pretty view."

    D) "Hey now, WOO, look at that!"

    E) "I know what you're thinking. I'll tell you something. I know what you're thinking."

    Have at it!

  • @tantric38

None of them. The song's lyrics are descriptive, creative and evoke a lot of emotion (a personal favourite to play during the summer). I suppose you like plain stuff like, "Girl, I love you, ooh, ooh, ooh". How bland.

  • @tantric38 Well None of them are dumb. I admit I dont know what the fuck a "cherry ice cream smile is" or even half of what he is saying for that matter.....

But I know that its 1000 times better than all the music that comes out today.

  • I really love 80's music, the era was so vibrant, unique and fun. I really wish I could have been a teenager in the 80's. I think Duran Duran are one of the groups that epitomise the 80's for me personally and I must add wasn't Simon Le Bon hot, lolz.

  • @Tauryluck vibrant, unique and fun describes the 80's perfectly! I really miss that time period..

  • @Tauryluck i can attest to the fact that it was the best time growing up as far as music goes. Duran Duran was one of my most favorite bands. really music video pioneers, they took every video to another level. This song and its video was always one of my favorites growing up and i was in love with both John and Roger Taylor!

  • @katycreative I know what you mean about their videos, some of them almost look like short movies. Well your very lucky to have been a teenager in that time, though I get some solstace from the fact that I was born in the 80's,lolz. : )

  • @katycreative

what does Roger Taylor has to do with this?

  • @QueenWillNeverDie Roger Taylor was the drummer, I was in love with him too :)

  • @harinkie

I think we're talking about another Roger Taylor, because I was thinking about the drummer from Queen, also Roger Taylor...

  • @QueenWillNeverDie Yes Another Roger Taylor played in Duran Duran also drummer! Duran Duran was cool 80s pop but I prefer Queen.

  • @1963Pure

    Me too ^^

  • @Tauryluck MMMM sure was and still is

  • @Tauryluck God I wish I could be a teen in the 80's

  • @AoiYukinoMisharu So do I,lolz.

  • @Tauryluck Me too - they should make some new 80's music!

  • @CanadianIdolFan Defintely, though I think people like La Roux and even Lady Gaga have a lot of 80's influence in their music and videos. : )

  • @Tauryluck There just sexually driven just like all of em

  • @juggernautjigsaw99 What has that got to do with what I said?

  • @Tauryluck same i wished i lived in the 80's x

  • @CarysMarie16 I know it would be sooo cool. : )

  • That sax solo...<3

  • God, I SO miss the 80's!

  • It's ,,Her name is Rio", not his :))))

  • His name is Rio and he watches from the stands.
