The only holes in the story are personifications of god, so men described things the best they could. The overall message of the bible. However is conclusive with all other major religions on the planet. To say there is nothing beyond the physical life though is like he says more faith based than anything you can think of.

If you can tell me *how* the universe was created then, and only then, can you suggest who created it. For example: you can't say person X murdered person Y until you can say exactly how person Y died. Anyone, that says they know different is lying. And you should be clever enough to know that. I don't think you're lying, you're just repeating what you've been told aren't you?

I'm sure you don't have any problems with your argumentative skills. It's just a very difficult case to argue.

If you measure Christians on a niceness scale, if one were to exist, I sure they would come out near, if not the top. And I'm certainly not questioning your values - far from it.

But let's take, for example, the Vatican - how much does it cost to run? Tax free! They are telling Africa not to use condoms. You, I and my children will have to pick up the pieces. And nobody questions that

It's really not difficult. He has no argument for the existence of god he, simply picks on a few holes in science (which doesn't pretend to be complete) and says, there, science doesn't have an answer therefore there must be a god.

What you're asking for is a kind of equal time for each argument. So, my natural conclusion is that Neptune (the Roman god, not the planet) is equally likely to exists as Yahweh - but I don't think that you would be comfortable with that. Let me put that question to you - is Neptune as likely to exist as Yahweh?

Of course not , as I said there can be no argument for the Flying Spaghetti Monster not existing either, or Neptune. Which, I suspect, you well know. But there is no reason, evidence or proof that should a supernatural being exist, that it is relevant to the human race. Religion had it's place in the development of civilization, but that's over. It prevents progress now. The majority of believers are fundamentally good but are wasting time, money and effort on something simply not relevant

Personally, I think some people could use some religion. Like, people who have done crime. Motivation to watch oneself a bit never hurt anyone. It gives some something to believe in, too. So weither or not God is there, you can't hate someone for having a positive outlook, right?

IMHO religion, or lack of it, doesn't change people's behavior much. E.g. it's just to justify war a lot but there probably would have been a war anyway.

I do think I should be doing something about one group of people indoctrinating children before they are too young to make up their own minds. That's something I can contribute to the human race.

Someone stopped my 8yo kid in the street and gave him some religious material - not OK. Scientologist or Christian no difference.

That's their problem. People need to point a finger and religion is one place to point it, as far as war goes.

The church of $cientology is a horrible invention. I wouldn't associate it with other religions, since it's proven to be made up and... well they kill people for profit. Look up "The Unfunny Truth of Scientology". It's pretty shocking. Christians are noooot like that at all, or they're taught not to be... Religion gets a lot of bad rep, liiike from televangelists. Those guys are liars.

What is, and is not, a religion is grey. I know some scientologists and I have to say (admit?) they're good people. I also think that very many nice people gravitate to christianity.

But it seems to me that religions, even christianity, has a nett negative effect on civilization.

Sending kids to Sunday school or circumsizing them at 8 days is unjust. Morally I feel obliged to stand up for that, to help my fellow man. And I think others should too.

First off, circumsizing started off as tradition, but it's done for heath reasons now from what I've heard. Second,sending kids doesn't hurt them, it's what they do in the future. That's like a person with an addiction to cough syrup blaming the syrup for their addiction, when it's really their misuse.

That's why we've got that Westbro Church protesting peoples funerals. They say it's in the Bible that God hates homosexuals, where it clearly says God hates no one. They're just hateful people blaming it on something else.

I don't know about other religions, but Christianity, from what I know, is not like that. It's supposed to encourage helping each other out, not killing people. It's just that fanatics that ram the words down peoples throats that make it seem horrible.

I'm sure that no religion or church sets out to be 'bad'.

I can't agree that subjecting kids to religious education, where that education presents Yaweh, Budah, Neptune, who/whatever as fact doesn't harm them. Peoples fundamental value systems are built at a young age and it is difficult for them to change afterwards.

How many kid's originating from a christian background end up being Orthodox Jews or vice versa - very few I suspect.

All I can say, not just for religious beliefs but any knowledge one may have is it's not what they teach, it's what you do with it.

No doubt it's hard to change later on, because one thinks what they know is right. That's what happened to Randall. Of course you can't just tell someone who grew up without God that they should all of a sudden follow God, you have to give them a good reason. I'm sure you can agree there, right? But the only way anyone can learn about anything is to open up to it.

When someone says 'my kids' it doesn't, or at least shouldn't imply ownership. It is stewardship. I am horrified by indoctrination, some Madrassas being at the extreme end. But we see that in Christianity and the western world - see Youtube - Jesus Camp.

So do people like Randall Niles benefit our society or detract from it.

I'm not trying to preach here. I'm just saying somethings you have to experience or open up to in order to truly know where they're coming from.

Does it matter, though, what Randall believes? It's his decision and he's simply describing his experience. Let's just leave it at that.

I'm in the process of reading the Bible: cover 2 cover, old and new testaments and am 95% through. My very christian friend told me that I had to read it with an open heart ("open up") otherwise I wouldn't 'understand' it.

Again, I can't tell you to belive in it. I could tell you it's the right way all day, but you'll find a reason to shoot it back down. To be honest, I can't argue with you on that because I lack the arguing skills. All I know is I read it all my life and I don't hate gay people, I think war is stupid, and to be honest, I don't think you truly know. You can't truly know until you actually hang out with some Christians and see who they really are. (And I'm not talking about fanatics.)

I've come to realize that it's no me that is not open - it's the other way around. To believe the Bible is 'the work of God you must close your mind to reason, common sense and truth. You must embrace weak explanations for pretty basic errors in a text that's 'guided by a perfect hand'. It contains horrible things which by any standards cannot be justified. Some good ideas - yes but it's one book that needs a human moral system to select what's good, not the other way around
