I sold my sti for a camaro and what a mistake. This car sucks more dick then Whitney Huston looking for blow. I'm going to put a deposit down for the 2013 mustang gt, hopefully it doesn't disappoint. Sounds good on paper do far.
I appreciate the Camaro for what it is; a big-engined, relatively inexpensive muscle car. It is a fun car that a lot of people can afford. It is perhaps the most ugly car on the road though. Every time I see one I have to wince. It is beyond hideous.
One reason American Muscle Cars didn't have rear wheel rear wheel independent suspension is because American Highways tend to be wide and straight and up until very recently in good condition. We simply don't have as many windy narrow roads as they do in Europe (sorry West Virginia). And a much larger percentage of Americans could afford performance cars than Europeans. So a Car like the Mustang would be out of range to all but the rich in Europe but affordable to Americans.
@p4horror Are you sure? I think its is infact a Holden or a Vauxhaul. Does it have rear Leaf springs? Because if it does then it is American. Other wise Aussie Muscle.
@AutoTechie20711, It was built on the ZETA platform. It is built by GM of America and Australia. it has an LS2 motor which is baselined at 421 bhp but is easily able to be modified to insane amounts, that is why we buy it here in America. No LS2 or LS1 or LS7 (etc) muscle car is ever stock in America, unless you want to keep it for the future value. They are very popular because of the wide array of aftermarket parts.
@notecages25 LS3 not LS2 for the manual version. L99 for the auto. Of course if you are looking into the vast array of aftermarket parts a lot are interchangeable but not all when it comes to heads, intakes and different reluctor wheel for the crankshaft.
@stuntmanmike111781, cool, I hear ya, some parts are hard to come by but the good thing about these cars is that there are tons of US companies that offer upgrades every year making it cheaper and easier for individuals in the states. I can still buy new upgrades for my stock L98 engine in my 1992 Camaro Z28 and hit 400 bhp with stock internals for example.

When Top Gear tested the Camaro, they compared it to an AMG Mercedes costing twice as much. I have so much more respect for Fifth Gear by using the similarly-priced Porsche Cayman as a benchmark. Top Gear = jolly good fun. Fifth Gear = consumer advice.

The camaro SS' suspension was tuned for comfort from the factory since the majority of owners wont track this car. But I think with tires, struts, sways, and coilovers will turn this into a true drivers car. And things youll normally mod will be lighter than their stock counter parts ie. exhaust, intake, headers, etc.

I test drove the 2011 Mustang and 2010 G37 before buying a 2ss Camaro. I just like the Camaro better. The Mustang and G37 were great also. I love my Red SS. I think Top Gear was fair in it's assessment (It's a big car) with great looks. It's fast and he drove the hell out of it. I only wish that the Firebird and Road Runner/Duster were still around. The Challenger is a sexy beast too! Go USA!!

@1through9athrewz it was tuned for that track so u could be right. on rougher less predictable concrete the audi would smoke the mustang because of its all wheel drive and waaay advanced traction control. but a mustang is cheaper and the fact that it can outperform a supercar, even if its only in one aspect is incredibly impressive to me. they even managed to make it look aggressive. mustangs have been lacking aggression for decades...

American car makers still need to get away from making sports cars that are big and bulky, it almost seems like a cartoon of an old muscle car. The Camaro SS has a bargain powertrain 420 HP for $32,000 but imagine what it could do if they actually put that in a lighter chassis with a lower profile.

Well actually you don't see large bore engine in muscle cars like you used to (unless you talking Viper) but even the older Magnum,Wedge, Hemi engine had large bore sizes.
The Camaro SS only uses a 6.2L (376 cid) v8 compared to the orignal versions like the 67-69 F body used 6.6L (396 cid) or 7.0L (427 cid) V8s.
here in Brasil they started bringing evo x's and camaro's, but I've seen 1 evo x and whole bunch of camaros.... and they are sold by the same price... camaros look nice i give you that.... but performance wise they are patetic compared to evo x's...

@rock3tcat in what world where you looking at base model is 30k and comes with a V8. 420 ish hp, V6 comes at 22k and it produces 312 hp. thats great price.

@elderkis Yank Tank is not a derrogatory term. To be fair this car isnt even American, it's Australian. A rebadged Holden like the old Pontiac G8. In the past all american cars had pretty terrible suspension setups and low on sophistication. Now in recent years they have caught on.

Also, logic fail. If the Australian Camaro is Canadian, then the German BMW X5 and Z4 are American (HINT: They're not). @IchiCrack What's cheaper? A solid rear axle or a fully independent suspension? A DOHC engine or a pushrod version? Keeping things simple keeps costs down. Repairs and modifications are also less costly and are easier to do. Also, for most people, an engine with lots of torque down low is a lot easier to live with than a high-winding low-displacement engine.

American car makers still need to get away from making sports cars that are big and bulky, it almost seems like a cartoon of an old muscle car. The Camaro SS has a bargain powertrain 420 HP for $32,000 but imagine what it could do if they actually put that in a lighter chassis with a lower profile.

Well actually you don't see large bore engine in muscle cars like you used to (unless you talking Viper) but even the older Magnum,Wedge, Hemi engine had large bore sizes.
The Camaro SS only uses a 6.2L (376 cid) v8 compared to the orignal versions like the 67-69 F body used 6.6L (396 cid) or 7.0L (427 cid) V8s.

here in Brasil they started bringing evo x's and camaro's, but I've seen 1 evo x and whole bunch of camaros.... and they are sold by the same price... camaros look nice i give you that.... but performance wise they are patetic compared to evo x's...

@elderkis Yank Tank is not a derrogatory term. To be fair this car isnt even American, it's Australian. A rebadged Holden like the old Pontiac G8. In the past all american cars had pretty terrible suspension setups and low on sophistication. Now in recent years they have caught on.
BTW, I doubt that a little car magazine show will determine if the US will engage in combat alongside the brits or not.

Also, logic fail. If the Australian Camaro is Canadian, then the German BMW X5 and Z4 are American (HINT: They're not). When people say "made in Canada", they mean final assembly takes place in Canada. Saying the Aussie is Canadian based on that is as dumb as ordering gym equipment from America and then saying it's Canadian because you assembled the equipment there once it was delivered

@IchiCrack What's cheaper? A solid rear axle or a fully independent suspension? A DOHC engine or a pushrod version? Keeping things simple keeps costs down. Repairs and modifications are also less costly and are easier to do. Also, for most people, an engine with lots of torque down low is a lot easier to live with than a high-winding low-displacement engine.
