@grassroot3 We flight attendants are not supposed to do that... we're supposed to read them when we land after our main landing announcement...I couldn't understand why she kept yammering on landing.. we're supposed to be in our jumpseats listening for any kind of emergency to pop up... we're supposed to be ready to jump in case..
Looking at the terminal buildings, I think this flight was from Atlanta to Miami, not the other way around...but a great video anyway. Miss this big plane a lot.
I was on an Eastern and a TWA L-1011. My favorite wide-body. The biggest Delta jet I was on was a DC-8-61 which was my favorite jet. You should have seen the even older Delta livery that was on their DC-6's and DC-7's. That was when the liveries were really unique. There's an old livery I wish was on Youtube..the old Ethiopian Airlines livery...that's one to see.
@hawkboy000 Good question. Quick answer: Canadians and US prefer more frequent flights in smaller planes to their direct destination than fewer flights in bigger planes that travel through a hub like Atlanta, Denver, or Chicago. Airlines like smaller planes because they are easier to fill with higher paying pax. Foreign airlines still have few flights to main international destinations and very little in the way of a domestic schedule because most countries are smaller than US or Canada.
This was my aircraft from LAX to DFW back in the 80s & early 90s, Delta had a way of making you feel at home never lost our luggage good service, made you enjoy flying even if you were a scared to fly.
I have rode many aircraft. To this day this bird is still my all time favorite. It was a very quiet smooth ride. I rode many of them back and forth with Delta across the atlantic to and from Frankfurt. Spoiled me so much that I didn't want to ride in any other aircraft.
@criticalpass i have flown on my Delta L-1011's. I agree with you. I love this aircraft. I didn't like it when it came to retiring them. Many were parked in Arizona and some sold overseas. My nephew is a captain and I have a niece that is a flight instructor. You should have been on one of the last flights ( the one where it was flown to be parked and the Delta coding was removed from the aircraft) It was both happy and sad. We love to fly and it shows...
boy, do I miss those old girls. Could someone please help me with a question? I used to fly Delta 38 and 39 ATL-AMS-STR back in the early to mid 1990s on a L-1011 and I can't remember which variant Delta used for that flight. Was it the L-1011-1 or the L1011-250 or L-1011-500. I know the 500 was smaller so I don't think it was that one, so that leaves the 250 or the 1. Which one was it? Also in econ it was 2-6-2
I flew the L-1011 for delta, I flew the second ship to enters delta's fleet and retired the second last, i was super young when i was a L-1011 pilot. i flew every versions, If i remember correctly, it was the 500. The reason why was because we used the 385 series for flight such as from HNL-SFO or LAX-SFO. Within the (united states). The 500 and 100 did most of the international flights. I think the one you might have gone on was the 500. I only flew this plane and none of the others.
I work for DL and the reason is High pax loads. Right now whe have an hourly flt to mco and back to atl all of them 757-200. Believe me, they leave full.
ITSWIN55 - I've flown on the 777 from MCO-ATL with less than 30 pax, fun flight. With the economy now, we're pretty much 757's now in MCO, but used to see lots of 767s daily. L1011 was a great plane for it's time.
