  • They were too lazy to draw the orcs so the put actors in ugly costumes :D shame :D

  • This looks like something you'd see on adult swim at three in the morning.

  • Those aren't orcs. Those are a combo of the Morlocks from the original "Time Traveler" and the bogeys from "March of the Wooden Soldiers." How the hell could anyone have taken them seriously?

  • The Balrog in this version, what the fuck? Is it a buffalo, is it a moth, who can tell?

  • @Reyalp now I could be wrong but I do believe it's the legendary wild Lion / Minotaur with wings.

  • WTF? Thank you Peter Jackson! Otherwise I would have thought the Balrog was a lion with wings. What the hell were they thinking?

  • So Balrog is a lion man?

  • Comment removed

  • Balrogs don't have wings. I wonder if it was this artist who, through Jackson's movies, ruined the image of Balrogs. Balrogs - don't - have - wings. Throughout the Silmarillion Balrogs die because they plummet to their death. Because they don't have wings.

  • @HistoryLubber Even if it wasn't in the book, I don't think the wings really "ruined the image of the Balrog" because when you see the wings they are appear to be very thin and vieny and made mostly of smoke, so even though it has wings it doesn't mean its able to fly and plummeting to death is still a very great threat to them.

  • @HistoryLubber Humans don't have wings either, but that doesn't stop me! :D

  • Wheres the cave troll?

  • @lilroddi The one with the spear, the one that was slightly fatter than all the other rotorscoped things.

  • @lilrodi Remember the giant foot Frodo stabbed at 1:12? That was the cave troll's foot. This version of the cave troll was actually how it appeared in the book: nothing but its foot was seen. Peter Jackson just expanded the cave troll's role a bit in his movies.

  • Fly you fools.

  • This is pretty accurate to the book

  • @Summergirl9091 Except for the Balrog being...completely different from how he was described in the book but whatever.

  • Why did I ever find this Balrog quite more scary than the Jackson's movie one ?

  • ummmm gandalf must not care about pippin. cause he's called the blonde and the brunette that..see clip before with the well for proff, unless maybe I imagined that??......and ohhhhhh Frodo playing dead, what a classic

  • ummmm gandalf must not care about pippin. cause he's called the blonde and the brunette that..see clip before with the well for proff, unless maybe I imagined that??

  • 4:43 ish, Gimli's sword just vashishes...

  • This is the section where this movie jumps the shark...

I mean this is supposed to be a cartoon and it fails because there are special effects (!?) that are worse than Godzilla's

  • this is gay.

  • Balrog is..a giant butterfly?

  • LOL

  • bulrog seems a tad small eh? :)

  • Balrog looks like a dominatrix

  • i dont this this is fully animated.

  • The line "Fly you fools" sounds way more comical and hilarious in this :D

  • Balrog at 4:31 Ooooh crap I forgotten how to fly!!!

  • @chaosjeffrey

Guess he didn't have enough Fairy Dust.....

  • Lord of the Rings : the Return of Scar of the Lion King

  • aragons outfit is so gay lol

  • fOR SHIRE, BITCH

  • Gandalf says Pippin to Frodo? Or did Pippins haircolour changed all of a sudden?

  • @albiinoankka that wasnt an orc... its was the cave troll!! srsly lol!

  • 4:43 nah, i think u need to learn to fly more than us lol

  • did the spear even get enough penertration? It looks like a Flesh wound. Mabye get to the ribs...

  • 2:08

THAT'S the mighty Cave Troll? A fat guy in a shitty costume? Destroying the Ring should be easy, then!

  • Everyone is complaining about the balrog. He does look like total shit but the cave troll was worse!!! It looked like a fat Orc! Jackson's cave troll and Balrog were awesome. This film sucks. A fat Orc and flying lion? Really?!

  • @PinheiroIllness85 i agree, there is no excuse for no imagination and no creativity at all, they could have done this much better...

  • Damn DWARF bigger than Gandalf!

  • 2:00 Frodo why didnt you DOOOOOOODGE!

  • the animation is very good for a cartoon :)

  • i thought there was a troll in the real movie

  • these drawings suck

  • The animation is exellent tru art, its to bad you cant see it!

  • 1:53 Frodos finnal ejaculation

  • Where did Gandalf get that sword

  • and this cute bat-thingy should be a balrog???

  • @Sheyanaa I actually think it's supposed to be Mothra.

  • 0:27 thats got to be the gayest war horn ever

  • @mikleman996 Lol, I know. The British are coming!

  • Gayer than unicorn dicks touching....

  • That had to be the saddest Balrog I have ever seen...or imagined, whatever. xDD

  • lol 5:16 aragorn nut shots that orc like a champ

  • So the balrog flies over to Gandalf and yet cannot fly back up from the abyss. Interesting.

  • In Jackson version it is a big deal when Gandalf dies. In this Frodo is like "Well Shit."

  • good thing frodo didn't scream when gandalf fall

  • Aragorn dont stab he slaps with sword :)

  • 1:55 - "I CAME!!!"

  • That Balrog sure resembles a demonic version of a 'Thundercat' all it needs was two horns a pitchfork and you have a Satanic Thundercat.

  • the fight scenes are terrible in this movie...and wtf is with the balrog just appearing out of nowhere? its supposed to be this crazy strong demon motherfucker and there is no buildup at all to it, all of a sudden hes just there

  • KAZOOS OF DOOM!!!

  • balrog looks like he's ready to do some freaky shit with that whip

  • Bad movie, but for some unknown reason it's very interesting and addictive

Kinda like drug, its bad but it's good

  • Oh my god! The Balrog!!

I had to go see the Jackson Balrog right after seeing this to keep my sanity! Waah!!!

  • 1:51 Aragorn's undies lol!

  • @missmuggledetector more like male upskirt ......lol

  • @kcssweetboy At least there was something under o_O

  • Interesting interpretation of the Balrog. :)

  • This movie is so fucking horrible honestly

  • That looks so bad.

  • they are taking the bridge to isengard, 0:01

  • hahahah aragorn isnt wearing any pants

  • so much love is shared while watching clips on here. Aaaaah sweet sweet friendships

  • gimli is kinda tall for a dwarf

  • Balrog looks like a cross between a spiderman and a moth, The way he is flying is like Vlad Dracula, Sorry guyes the one in the....I mean The LOTR .....is much better.

  • Really I think this version is more "true" to the feel and descriptions in the novel; the only thing I disagree with is how Boromir looks like a Viking; him I imagine to be more like the live-action movie's version (I forget the actor's name, sorry). But everything else is worlds better and more realistic looking (in the sense of how things are portrayed, I mean) than the live movies.

  • I agree, both versions are equally good. By that I mean, both versions suck horribly...

  • one of the orcs look like cuzin it

  • hahaha, the orc horn sounds like a kazoo

  • Yes this film is a classic, especially the sound track. This scene shows the cave troll as MUCH larger when he enters the door, but then it seems just an orc throws the spear. I thought that was the cave troll who threw the spear? I also notice Legolas bow has a nice "cello" type curve at the top at first, then it's gone in the following drawings..hmm. I should be an editor :) The fight with the balrog is much better, they both just fall, very realistic. The balrog can glide not fly.

  • 1:10 FOR THE SHIRE

  • Balrog looks like a demonic baboon XD

  • @xXDarkAngelsCryXx He looks like a doll.

  • Comment removed

  • at 1:33 it looks like gandalf it telling the orc to kill frodo?

  • @jandar66 ROFL XD

u probs wouldnt believe this, but thats actually suppost to be the cave troll too Xd

  • The Orcs look strange. More like devils or daimons.

  • boromir looks like a fucking viking

  • i know some movies didnt have great effects back in the 70s but couldnt they just make them all animated or all live action? bad enough the balrog is shitty and so are the orcs but aragorn wearing a miniskirt... just......facepalm

  • This is so lame. It's a perfect example of what happens when you rely too much on rotoscoping. You can't tell what's supposed to be animated or "real," and the result is jarring. The fight scenes are terrible, too, presumably because the animators are only capable of drawing over the actors hitting one another with wooden sticks instead, of you know, actually showing the swords entering the Orks' bodies.

  • @rdubayoo all in all, this was a good enjoyable version for its TIME !

lots of people enjoy and appreciate bakshis version so if you have negative comments please keep em to yourself because they are NOT wanted here.

  • @cujo9

I really agree with you. Why come and ruin it for other so to speak?

Anyway, the scene where the orc throws the spear onto Frodo is superior to the Jackson movie. I can´t believe it´s from 1974, this movie! There are a lot of things I like better than the Jackson movies, not that we have to compare. Gandalf is so much more real in this one and Aragorn is dark which suits more.

  • @Khwaab well said my friend.

  • @Marsouin19

Early cartoons always had a few gltiches like that. 1980's cartoons were infamous for those.

  • that was a cave troll ??!! oh come on

  • That's a really tall dwarf. 0:40

  • @cuongnhu246 Oh my bad that's Boromir @ 0:40 sorry my mistake.

  • Frodo's Face at 1:55 is extremely funny.

  • im surprised how good the animation of the fellowship is. Their motions looks really smooth and realistic

  • @Graffeetee21

They filmed live actors and pretty much drew over them. They did the same for Snow White.

  • His enemy halted again, facing him, and the shadow about it reached out like two vast wings. … suddenly it drew itself up to a great height, and its wings were spread from wall to wall … From the book, this is probly where they got wings on balrog from, they never really give a clear description of a balrog cause tolken changed the concept of them alot, there are many, not just one.

  • the balrogs wearing slippers

  • @alexander211974

Those cave floors are very hard, can't blame him.

  • The animation looks fantastic, too bad they looks so ugly lol

  • lol the cave troll looked like at fat orc

  • Funny enough, the balrog flies in this one, thought, yeah, he does look like some sort of butterfly with down syndrome.

  • I lol'd when gandalf fell. He was standing straight and everything but just dove in.

  • looks like the legendary "mothman"...

  • wow that troll sure is small compared to the ones in the film

  • 1:56 Frodo's face, Priceless!

  • WTF they look like native african tribemen xDD

  • Lead the way Gimli! Pippin and Merry next!

I SAID PIPPIN AND MERRY NEXT! FOR CRAP'S SAKE! DO IT IN A STRAIGHT LINE! I DON'T CARE IF WE ARE BEING CHASED YOU ARE GOING TO DO IT IN THAT ORDER!

  • only thing I like about this version is when the captain throws the spear at Frodo witch is how the book goes, the stupid troll just swings away

  • 4:36 what a bitch

  • Wow, Boromir and Aragorn have some really nice legs.

  • The battle scene looks like a bunch of guys LARPing

  • 1:53 open wide LMFAO

  • The orcs are actually a bit scarier than Peter Jackson's orcs, and the part where Gandalf and the Balorg clashed swords was pretty cool, but Peter Jackson's balrog and overall Moria depiction will never be beat.

  • Balrog looks like a giant flying chewbacca with butterfly wings. Aragorn looks like an pantless indian, Boromir is a viking. Legolas has a horrible haircut, gimli has an turbane, saruman is aruman, balin is belin, elrond is the julius ceasar and someone in the prancing pony shoutetd HEROIN!

  • This is weird it's like half animation half live action :/

  • Its a strange butterly, moth, lion shit

  • wait for it..wait for it. 4:17

    HELL YES!

  • Gandalf sounds so emotionless when he says "fly, all of you. you cannot help me. Fly!"

  • 1:56 XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • In my opinion Bakshi's version id just as good as PJ's version. It doesnt matter when they where made. I think Bakshi did a very good job creating middle earth. This version, in my opinion, is darker and more serious. I like that it's animated because for me, it adds to the effect that it happened a very long time ago. I love this movie just as much as peter jackson's and I will always respect it, despite the problems that it has.

  • Gandalf yells so loudly when he tells the demon butterfly that it cannot pass. This was way better than Peter Jackson's lame version. He totally butchered it. And I like how the butterfly thingy doesn't fly when he falls off the bridge. My favorite thing is how aragorn wears a miniskirt. This is definitely how I saw it when I read the book.

  • @poggymoose Lmfaoooooo

  • @poggymoose LOL me too. Jackson was obviously totally jealous of the epicness of this version

  • @poggymoose You can not seriously believe this is better than a movie that won 5 awards.

  • @codafett Look up the definition of sarcasm and try commenting again.

  • @poggymoose Thats why I said "you can not SERIOUSLY belive etc"

  • @poggymoose are you crazy!!?, this is in no way better than the Peter Jackson version. balrog looks wack as fuck, the orcs look wack as fuck. the whole damn Moria scene was wack as fuck in this.

  • @lilbig8543 look up the definition of sarcasm and try commenting again.

  • @poggymoose I actually analysed the sound for that same part in LOTR, which was excellent - sound effects, the way Gandalf's voice rose etc. You have to prove why it was "lame" as you say, but for now you sound like an old fogie. I know your comment was written months ago but I would love to thumbs down you and the 13 other old geezers that agreed so foolishly with you!

  • @artep2122 You try to sound smart when you take an obvious sarcastic comment seriously, are you trying to sound like an idiot? To be honest I could never keep a straight face and call Peter Jackson's version lame, It's one of my favorite movies of all time. I'm a huge fan of the books I've read The hobbit twice, The Silmarillion once, and The Lord of the Rings 3 times. And I'm only 12. The Mines of Moria is my favorite scene from the book, And in my opinion this couldn't have been done worse.

  • @poggymoose Listen kid, you're the idiot who obviously thinks you know so much about writing sarcasm. If you write something that is sarcastic, it should be recognised without video accompaniment. Do not quit school, child, you have a lot to learn, and I've come across many like you who "think" you know but don't know crap. Also you're an idiot in that you just told the world basically that you are underage and using YOUTUBE when the minimum age is 13. Grow up, then come back, fool.

  • @artep2122 I really have better things to do than talk to some halfwit like you, I know you'll come back and say it's because I have no response to your derogatory remarks, or say something offensive about the "Better things I have to do". By the way you say that my sarcasm shouldn't have to be recognized without video accompaniment, You should know that it was sarcasm just from my phrasing "My favourite thing is how Aragorn wears a miniskirt". Now how could I be serious about that? Goodbye.

  • @poggymoose Little boy, go and actually learn something. So you learn a new little word at school, and you think you could take me on? I laugh at your stupidity child, don't even try to go there with me. You try to sound so intelligent calling me a "half wit", not even knowing anything I've accomplished. Also the reason there is an age limit is to prevent me from having to converse with silly, immature, "know-it-all" (as if!) kids like you! Nice you've learned all those big words!

  • @poggymoose Now go and get common sense. YOu are the one who was trying to talk down to people by telling them to look up sarcasm as if you think you're the only person who knows! Now you can't take the heat? I have seen men dressed in the outfit Aragorn wore, so it is not out of place to me. The only goodbye I want to hear from you is you getting off Youtube, being an under-aged child; and only replying to your little kiddie friends with the same silly mindset as you.

  • @artep2122 Where's the place you see people dressed like Aragorn? The gay bars you go to Saturday nights?

  • @poggymoose Haha! So that's your retort? Gay? I'm supposed to be offended? You see what I was telling you all along? That might work with your little friends with the same lack of mind as you, but for me....? So now you're being homophobic. Good luck with that. Also you continue to display your ignorance. You think you know more about concepts than grown animators? (I'm not saying they were all correct). For the setting, I can imagine Aragorn in the outfit, so did the filmmakers.

  • @poggymoose Your imagination is limited and that's why you can't see that. As for your comment, I will not tell you what I think. It does not make me feel greater to tear down a child one the internet. Your parents need to control your activities.

  • @artep2122 Are you finished with your psychotic rant?

  • @poggymoose :)

  • @poggymoose you make me rofl so hard. it hurt!!!

  • @poggymoose its not a butterfly......... its a demon >_> just sayin

  • @cincameron I know it's not a butterfly, I've read The Lord of the Rings 3 times, I'm just saying that it looks like a butterfly.

  • @poggymoose well... u do have a point

  • @poggymoose You idiot children clearly saw the Jackson movie and thought that it was how these things are 'meant' to be depicted. There's nothing wrong with this version, and in fact it is better than Jackson's. The balrog doesn't fly in Jackson's lotr when it falls either, nor in the book. Notice how it's falling back-downward? That's why it can't. Try using a parachute with it below your back. Dumbasses.

  • @WalterLiddy It wasn't falling back-downward when the bridge broke, and I've read the book and seen the movie. And I complained about it not flying, because it can clearly fly with out any trouble what-so-ever. However in the books, the balrog never flies. And I have read the book three times, my dad read it to me when I was ten(along with the hobbit), and I've read it every summer since. AND ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?! BETTER THAN PETER JACKSONS VERSION!!!

  • @poggymoose Both versions are cool, both have their ups and downs, but I prefer the newer one. I did read the books, but I don't think that just because Jackson's vision didn't totally meet up to my visualization that he butchered it.

  • @animehobo The butchered part was sarcasm.

  • @poggymoose oh...sarcasm is hard to pull off on the internet. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

  • @animehobo It's ok.

  • LOL 5:46 Upskirt...

  • Comment removed

  • Omg this is so much better than Peter Jacksons rendition of the Balrog Scene, Peter totally butchered the book and this stays closer to the original, not to mention this is just how I imagined it when i read the book!

  • @Gargantupimp I saw this film in a theatre as a kid back in 78', the theatrical release had much blood splatter that i later noticed was deleted from the dvd release.

  • @Gargantupimp your kidding, right?

  • @poggymoose actually Bakshi's version does follow the books more closely than Peter's. Mostly in the script. As for the Balrog scene, Peter did do a very good job. However, I do not think it was as big in the book as the movie. I think Tolkien pictured it somewhat smaller. Still big, just not as big as Peter made it. But yes, I dont think tolkien meant it to be a demon butterfly, which I believe can be turned into something pretty awesome with a few changes.

  • pippin says "gandalf, i dont want to stay here" no, really??? u dont want to be in the orc infested tunnels??!

  • One would think elves would wear the mini skirts, not men. Also why didn't the Balrog fly? It's got wings so...

  • Our orcs and goblins the same thing? Cause there goblins in the books if i'm not mistaken?

  • @MrChophairs a goblin is a type of orc, yes.

  • @Dirtfire kk just wondering thx

  • Im the balrog and il wip you im super cereal!

  • Tha balrog scene is way better in Peter Jackson's LOTR and does anyone notice that the orcs aren't animated.

  • LOL that little trumpet tune that announces the coming of the orcs.. xD

  • They couldn't have drawn a better Balrog instead of half-assing it with the whole part live action/part animation thing?

  • lol this is so shut

  • NO!!!! I hate the mutant butterfly from hell! he KILLED GANDALF!

i always think of gandalf as a fiestier dumbledore xD

  • @locoroco2798 No. Dumbledore is a sedated Gandalf.

  • Hmm, maybe Aragorn, the Transvestite in miniskirt should have fought Balrog the Drag Queen... that would've been interesting.

  • I thought Sam looked like an annoying retard. But then the orcs showed up. And they looked like the most ridiculous thing you can think of.

...but then the Balrog showed up.

    Fly, you fools.
