This is why the radical left contradicts themselves so much. They bitch about "WARS FOR OIL"...yet they won't allow us to drill for our own oil.
They hate coal, oil, nuclear. They stop oil drilling even claiming that it's "visual pollution" having oil rigs on the horizon...yet they have no problem with constructing thousands of metal windmills across the landscape.
@marathon1974: "They bitch about "WARS FOR OIL"...yet they won't allow us to drill for our own oil"
Never mind that the DOE reports that if we completely open the continental shelf for drilling, it won't make a measurable impact on availability until 2030, and if you factor in our increase in demand, the effects will be "negligible".
We use most gasoline, and own least.
Continuing to rely on oil, without a major effort to get away from it, just means that those with the most oil will own us.
The only problem with this geniuses theory is that ethanol is produced with oil. Corn ethanol is more or less an energy sink, taking more in fossil fuel inputs than you get from the final ethanol. This might work if we got the ethanol from another source but congress is too stupid to realize that.
@christo930: "Corn ethanol is more or less an energy sink" if you use the methods assumed in the flawed study that "factoid" comes from. It was by people with a vested interest in us ignoring alternatives. They used the worst possible means, and a sane system obviously wouldn't.
"This might work if we got the ethanol from another source but congress is too stupid to realize that." So it's a good thing this prospect is just being explored, so we can find the best means.
@JFrazer4303 Economics don't lie. Only with subsidies at the corn level and the ethanol level can it even break even. Even if there was a slight net energy gain, it is still a crazy idea. The soil depletion and the effects on the price of corn make it a bad model. Switch grass or even Hemp are both way better than corn ethanol.

I think Woolsey may be one of the best DCI's that ever ran the Agency. If he's not one of the bests, he's probably one of the most intelligent. He often tells it like it is, and he doesn't fit the Agency architype that everyone just loves to bash on. I wish he'd come out of retirement to serve some function running the intelligence community.
People think the CIA is a ruthless terrorist organization because of two reasons: 1) stupid operations/ideas that got out of control and 2) the media's vendetta against the Agency. Covert operations are a very small part of what the Agency does. People misjudge the Agency because their successes are largely secret/unknown. Anytime the CIA stops a terrorist attack, there's a great chance we may never know about it.
You make it sound like theyre blunderous boyscouts that just stumble into killing innocent men women and children by accident. They have supported Death squads, planted bombs, Rigged elections in Italy, supported coups and dictators in Greece, Guatemalla, Iran, Chile, etc payed by the human ear(civilian) in Laos, trained Iranian police into the fine art of torture. Protected drug smuggling into the US. The murder meter's been spinning since the 50s.
Yes, the Agency makes many mistakes and has been invovled in a lot of blunders. But the agency does a lot more than just what the media tells you it does.
You dont excatly hear about CIA bombs, murders, coup attempts, drug smuggling, propaganda in the news and press, and election rigging on Nightly News or Nightline, they keep their dirty business secret so what we learn about is probably only the tip of the iceberg.
Woolsey is a very intelligent man. What he means is that never before have the American people funded a war against itself in such an overwhelming manner. He's saying that most Americans are funding its enemies, and the sad thing about it is that most of us don't even know it. He's absolutely right.
Do you ever read between the line or are you involved with the same scum you praise? The war in Iraq is a part of their fight to pertake of the oil within that country. So they may make more money by lowering the price. America needs to not think about oil and think about usable alternative energy resources. They know that they work, but instead of encouraging or participating in the future for all they would rather line their pockets.
I truly admire Jim Woolsey! He is the man!

The CIA has provided valuable rare information to the New Yorx Times and other beloved media during the American Century
post-2001 it has done lousy in that service, but in 2006 it banned torture
so it is starting to get its house in order after fifty years of
bad ops and practices

the main problem is strategic
1991 was the time to change the organization structure of
the CIA and instead they blundered
which is to say, the CIA has massive strategic problems
but they could have been purposeful for United States this century instead of invalid

James Woosley, What a comedian, bravo, he had me fooled, I almost thought he might not have been a mass murderer
he's not only a former member of a criminal organizations that killed and murdered(CIA), hes part of the
'The Commity on the Present Danger'
that beats the war drum hysteria propaganda to go to war against Iran!
so hes a bonified warmonger too!

this being said a murderous warmonger can still be right about some topics ;)

Although I consider the CIA to be a ruthless terrorist organisation I agree with most of what he said.
I would add that Hydrogen and Ethanol are scams, while electricity is the best.
Speaking of EV I suggest seeing 'Who killed the electric car?' if you still havent seen it
Rickdeckard2020 4 years ago
Electricity all the way, electromagnets create free energy so why aren't we using them to charge cell phones, etc.
screwopenborders 4 years ago
There are electromagnets flash lights (no more batteries), I guess its a matter of time before more devices use the same principle.
