i hate People who point at their wrist asking for the time... I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?
@NiaLov3 I know what you mean - they did play it sometimes & sometimes mixed it with other tunes and rearranged it. I think they got bored of playing the same way everyday. Joe the guitarist in the vid was my teacher at music school. I don't think he's playing with them now but I learnt heaps just by hanging with him out at their rehearsals.
@AWESOMEMAORIatFB no not all. I just think the dialogue was cheesy at best! Also I think some of the characters didn't have much depth and so it really did a disservice to what really goes on in NZ! Some of the small characters were a lot better than the main two characters! I think I need to read the book and see if that is a lot better although I don't really like to compare the two mediums!
See the movie too , Once were Warriors ... it's violent , but has deep characters and story and great acting ,proving Maori people have some serious skillz and this song rocks .
"cook the man some eggs"!!! this is my fav song from this film. and my fav film. i listen to this once a fortnight. theres a good cover of this song by a group singing at kapena tiki's grill. its on ere somewhere..
"What's the time?" as in: what's going on? World seems effed up. Is it true? I don't have the answer - you do. Listen... "the sun don't shine at all." "I've grown up, and seen the world and all its lies." "Has anyone seen the world, and the state it's in? It's never been this way before!"
"What's the time, Mr. Wolf?" Why all the pain, suffering and death caused by hatred? Can't we ever move beyon that? "Is there anyone who's got the story? Anyone who's got that story?"
This song is talking about the present when the polynesians are striving to keep their lands. He's asking for the time because the land is getting taken away and he wants to now why it was taken so fast. New Zealand? uhmmm... scratch that. Autea Roa? YES. Shoutout to all the polynesians in the struggle. From the hawaiian in O'ahu Hawai'i
@High808Kydd76South totally disagrin to the meaning.. listen its about the old days/whats the time?? 6 oclock , ur spoonin ur spoonin up ya dinnah... 9 o clock UR WITH UR WITH UR WITH UR BOYS... the world not like wat it use to be. mom dad sayin go to school ((he young he dont know what for)) and just listen.
one of my favourtie song of all time. Love it...First time i heard about it in "Once were warrior". Then when i'm far away from NZ everytime i've heard this song, it reminds me of a beautiful country with friendly people...thx a lot for posting this song
I also meant to add that I also love the spiritual meaning of this song. Much props to this group, to the Maori peoples, and all people in the world who strive for Peace & Unity.
I just happened upon this song. It has a great sound! I love how Reggae is found all around the world.
Fwiw, "What's The Time Mr Wolf?" is a very old children's game that is found in the USA, the Caribbean, and probably also in other English speaking countries. This game is also known as "What time is it Mrs Witch", "What's The Time, Mr Fox", "Bull Inna Penn", "Chicka Ma Chicka Ma Craney Crow" and other names. Google Cocojams Children's Rhymes & Cheers for examples of these games.
This is the "Legitimate" music, inspired by real world event(s)..,not the Beyonce and Rihanna try'in to "move" folks with their nice voices but "empty" lyrics!
This song makes me proud 2 be maori!! 1981 Bastion Pt Protests and spring bok tour!! Soon Mr Key if the government doesnt give the maori there land back, Theres gunna b a massive protest again and we are gonna kick the cops arses again and take back wats rightfully ours! for over 100 years the pakeha hav stayed here rent free, its time to pay up!!!

@sheikhtheworld Learn how to spell and use correct grammar before "trying" to insult a race... By the way, get over it, none of us were around back then anyway!
@sheikhtheworld No need for Racist remarks either side, Maori or Non-Maori People.... Enjoy the song and the meaning of the song. Knowledge, Education on All Levels is More Powerful, not Aggression. Knowledge, Pain and History is sung through Songs (Alas Why Southside Sing so beautifully and also get there message across Assertive and on a Wider Scale) People switch off to people who are aggressive and we dont take them seriously. These are words from a Well Known, Respected Maori Chief/Teacher.
Never Look Down On Anyone, Unless You Are Helping Them Up.... Jesse Jackson. Make the best of the Home we have now and how we want ourselves and our children to live and be received by the World, cause we are currently ourselves CREATING HISTORY.
