Hindsight is always 20/20. Hitler refused to defer to his own officers who knew more than he did about naval warfare. He was after all a ground pounder in WWI.
wow i did not knew that the Germans are rather more acceptive of people even till inclduing German jews whose loyalty are to the GermanY and this German admiral really earn the respect of the british alot though i think he would earn the respect of the allies too
The mere presence of the battleship Tirpitz worried Allied generals so much that they kept a small fleet of planes in England in case she ever left her armored harbor in Norway. I still shudder at what would have happened had the British navy encountered Bismark AND Tirpitz at the Battle of the Denmark Strait.
I`ve often wondered why Germany didn`t realize you didn`t need huge battleships to own the ocean, all you needed was Air Power. Had Germany focused on Submarines and Aircraft carriers, they would have owned the Atlantic. I`m also amazed at the amount of blunders made during WW2 on all sides, it went to show people don`t think too clearly in stressful situations.
And even better Harvin87...Imagine if they had completed the aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin..They all would have been sunk eventually, because of British aircraft carrier superiority yes, but the speculation is too good to ignore.
@grimso666 April 1941 was a bad time for the British. The evacuation of Crete was in full swing and the RN had taken some losses. They were stretched pretty thin. Hitler relied on his intuition a lot. Sometimes he was uncannily correct, but sending the Bismark out alone in 41 was a big mistake. Both had been bombed by the British earlier in the month and were in no shape for a battle.
@wilmanric1 yes but if they had of waited was what i said if it had of been the tirpitz and the bismark they might have stood a chance against the british navey
@grimso666 hardly, the KGV ships where beeing phased into the RN, and if they had waited they would have joined, a month or two later and both PoW and DoY would have been fully worked up, while Tirpitz would still have had green Crew. A few more months to train Tirpitz, and Hood would have been rebuilt. And the larger the fleet, the easier it would have been both to find it and (more importantly) commit all available rescourses. The Bismarcks where good, but they couldn't match a united Home Fl
Imagine what would had happened if Scharnhorst and Geneisenau were battle ready and actually could had join the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen in Exercise Rhine... holy fuck .. it would had been ... a "reign of terror"
agreed. If Hitler had waited he could have unleashed a formidable force. Instead, he launched them in "penny packets" so to speak. Unfortunately, the little corporal was either a naval, air force or army expert and thank God for it!
Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Prinz Eugen would have speeded them out and itched them with their 28, and 20.3cm artillery, while the Bismarck fired the real heavy salvos.
so you think it was alucky shot? When the bismarck hit the hood they were turning away from the hood to increase the range, you call that lucky? They also badly damaged the hoods escorting battleship it had to return to england, read your history, you`ll be amazed at how lucky, and skillfull the british were at deception. The bismarck could have sunk both ships but they were given orders to only defend themselves and commerce raid only.Thats why she turned away to escape the other ships
First, the fucks does deception have to do with this?
Second, so the britts can be lucky and a 15 shell cant?
Finally, Bismarck had the upper hand because she could use plunging fire to penetrate hood, but hood closed that gap thus limiting the trajectory of Bismarcks shells. She was also turning to port so she could face all her guns to full broadside. While still closing said gap so that Bismarcks fire would be concentrated on her 12 inch belt instead of her 3 inch deck armor.
The Germans were aiming at the big thing on the horizon not a specific room. Plus the target is moving forward and turning in the rough north Atlantic seas. There is no way in hell that the gunners on the bismarck were aiming at an AA mag. Saying hay I bet we can sink it if we hit that AA mag thats in a room that we cant see let alone know where the fuck it is. When the shell hit the mag a pillar of fire shot out and burned through to the main mag blowing her wide open.
With so many contributing factors against the Bismarck there had to be some luck involved in order for them to make that shot. Its like sniping a penny from a mile away with no scope.
Dont tell me to read my fucking history you amateur
Next time if you have got a statement about something you had better know what the fuck your talking about.
The Bismarcks job was to lure away the convoys escorting heavy unit, usually an elderly battleship and engage it while the PE was to destroy the convoy.
good movie. thank you

The German Navy never got the support in the air that the Royal Navy did - if it had the war would have been very different.

If the Bismarck went against the Americans, they would simply send an Aircraft Carrier, and obliterate it from above.

there was a class of two ships that was to be bigger than the bismarck and tirpitz but they were never made.

they could've switched Bismarck's crew with Tirpitz's.

@grimso666 Interesting note, the only thing the Tirpitz sunk was a radio station. What a waste of a great ship.
