For the 1st part this game is NOT free at all, you play it just to work on it forever and be forced to pay real money if you actually want to do anything in the game or get any type of reward. This is a boring, meaningless game and if I were any of you id stick with WoW the base fee is cheaper than the rediculous costs for everything this game has anyway.
i have to disagree with you there, i always payed for lotro but i wanted to try the f2p once so i made a new account. i lvled about the same speed, just did a few deeds to buy expansion for FREE! to raise lvl cap and repeated this. it only took 1 month longer to reach maxed.

This game is so limited when it hit F2P? Really did not you have to pay for it before to have access to extra content? Well you do not have to pay for it at all. All anyone needs to do is grind tp and pay close attention to deeds at there level. I am a level 45 guardian and I can currently purchase angmar at full price for free by doing some extra tp grinding for a week on the same character. Or you can do crafting or play on a alt. There's plenty to do when one runs out of quests.
This is a very good game. The free to play version is good but limited, but you can earn a lot. I have played ftp for a while and got premium short after.(I think its a good way because it unlocks pritty much everything you need) But you can pay a fee if you wish. I have spend 15 Euro in 3 monts for those Turbine points(Way cheaper then the montly WoW fee). This game is different and similar to WoW in the way the game interacts with the player. And somehow lotro is much more relaxing.... :)
The game became so limeted when ftp hit O_O, gold cap of 2g, only 3 bags, few trait slots, only breeland is free to play, rest costs around 600 points to buy, you cant sell stuff on the AH, traveling is limeted, still no wardens nor rune-keepers, the maximum level you can reach is 20 before you have to buy another quest areas. I used to play this game on the welcome back weeks and i had full accses to everything i needed up to lvl 50. Nope, free to play is a bunch of shit..

To everyone worried about the words "trial", it's old text, you can free to play forever. If you choose to buy the game and get a subscription there are many extras for doing so.
I'd also like to mention that they've gone to lua script plugins, so you have even more options for customizing the UI. Check out lotrointerface.
They've also implemented DX11. LOTRO just get's better and better!
At least now I can get my cheap ass friends to play an MMO with me.
i think free to play is in the US, and yes you have to buy the game, but you dont have to play monthly I think the idea is... not sure how true it is though
free to play is a load of crap. I downloaded it and sure, you can play it.. but you cannot spend points when you level up.. unless you pay. So basically it's not free to play.. it's a demo.

I can't go back and find out what it was called because once I found that out I uninstalled it right away. Not saying the game isn't good. They might be of better use for high lvl chars, but still not at all necessary. I've had my big share of this game since it was with monthly subscription, checked what the free version offers, You're not missing much, unless if you want to become a high end char, but if you do, then it means you love it and it's logical to contribute.

you can spend turbine points. Its just a little harder to get turbine points with f2p rather than gettting your monthly allotement of 500 or so tubrine points if you p2p
@Th3AngryGam3r I have the entire game unlocked...content wise and char development wise....all I did was buy MoM xpac and spent 30 days as VIP and now I have 5 full chars with all the perks of a VIP forever. I unlocked everything else with in-game earned Turbine points. In short, if your smart, you can play this game with all it's features(except PVMP) for very cheap. Great game too!
@Th3AngryGam3r You can spend Turbine points which you get for doing all the "deeds" in LOTRO Store and you don´t have to pay anything. You have an OPTION to buy more Turbine points for real money but it is not necessary for playing the game.

@Hotlantaa it isnt going to bother you until you get to a higher lvl. if you choose to play for free as a high lvl you will have to buy some of the quest and be limited on some types of rare armor.

What's with these people saying LotRO is going totally F2P? You still have to pay if you want the full content of SoA, plus the cost of the MoM and SoM expansions. The upcoming initial F2P content only gives you about 5% of what this game offers if you pay.
@zolleen F2P = FREE 2 Play. You don't have to pay a subscription fee or pay for the game. The will just have a point store that you can buy stuff from..armor, weapons etc. Also you will have to buy special quest i take it. Dungeons and Dragons is F2P as well...so go check it out to see how it works.
I'm upset this is gonna be F2P because it's such a great game and a lot better then WoW in my opinion. But don't get my wrong I like WoW a lot too but I just think this game should be payed for because it's great.

Obviously Turbine never expected to have this many players.
They should add a few more servers to even things out. And there are still a bunch of low-populated servers anyway.

i need some help, it says pmb is a bad image and wont let me run it, iv tryed to unstall it and install it again but it dosent work, i also read alot of freds saying its a malware programe and it eats up your bandwidth giving you a solwer internet i need a link to a standerd res download of the game that dosent use pando media booster. it can be torrent or a normal download, I DONT MIND JUST GET ME THE LINK

@jeffy0123 that is strange because my friend did was fill out that page when you first go to the site then he started playing the game,i think its a little messed up though because he kept filling it out with his p/w and u/n ext and it wiuldnt work,then he tried on a different comp and poof it worked.so i would try again or later.because i know you dont need a product key for a fact do to him playing it and not buying it

This aint true, turbine stated that the item shop is only used to buy expansions or potions to increase ure stats a little bit, no overpowered items armors/weapon/trinkets etc. will be sold in the item shop.

What's with these people saying LotRO is going totally F2P? You still have to pay if you want the full content of SoA, plus the cost of the MoM and SoM expansions. The upcoming initial F2P content only gives you about 5% of what this game offers if you pay.

@zolleen F2P = FREE 2 Play. You don't have to pay a subscription fee or pay for the game. The will just have a point store that you can buy stuff from..armor, weapons etc. Also you will have to buy special quest i take it. Dungeons and Dragons is F2P as well...so go check it out to see how it works.

I'm upset this is gonna be F2P because it's such a great game and a lot better then WoW in my opinion. But don't get my wrong I like WoW a lot too but I just think this game should be payed for because it's great.

@OnlyRemaining naw the way it is now, id want f2p. I mean look at ddo, it was ok but not that special, certainly not worth the monthly. It goes f2p but also p2p and then suddenly you have an explosion of player base that helps each other out and rockets the ah up.
So long as they do the f2p right and don't let the money store rule the game.

F2P people will miss out on Lorien, Mirkwood, the two extra classes and any other expansions unless they upgrade to a subscription and get the expansions such as Rohan. F2P would also not get the Ettenmoors as the creeps are level 65, 15 levels above F2P - it'd just be free experience. F2P also miss out on many instances, raids, outfits and gear.
