Why did you guys spend your time comparing our system to Canada and the UK when the proposed bill is nothing like it? It's not a single payer system. Also, HMOs today routinely turn down treatment for patients so attempting to scare people by saying you won't get care because of budget concerns is useless--it's already the case.
Single-payer is where this is headed. Obama said it on the campaign trail. This is just a brief stop on the way.
If this passes, watch out, it will be as if we are all on HMOs, only worse. If you have an HMO today, you have the possibility of finding something better someday, but if this thing passes, you will never have the opportunity. Your current HMO will look like the "good old days".
Doctors: My question is, given the heavily documented fact that profit (greed) based healthcare has failed to deliver a national standard of service for US Citizens, and the health of the nation is in reality a strategic concern ( particularly given the recent rise of pandemic conditions)- why are you opposed to a serious national healtcare strategy?
Profit-based health care has produced more innovation than any other system. All other health systems mainly apply our innovations. You want that to end?
This will take choices away from the majority of Americans who are happy with their health care. Freedom is at stake. Whatever the Democrats can "give"* us, it isn't worth our *freedom* to choose. Taking SO else's health care away so that you can have what you want - that is the truest form of greed.
