  • These poor horses are abused so much! :(

  • Excellent video, love my 6 yrs old Mare TWH Heather Moon, I'm her 7th owner she came to me unkempt in need of grooming, hooves splitting with serious trust issues with all humans...3 months later she and I have become so close my baby girl ..a promise to her never again will any human misuse you never again will your spirit ache the way it did when you came to me , never again will you not be loved...best choice I ever made was buying this beautiful proud animal ...thanks for the video

  • WALKING HORSES ARE THE BEST. THEY CAN DO ANYTHINNGGG

  • I have not seen yet seen mentioned another task that the TWH has been used for and is very good at it. Driving horse. My dad (now in his 80s) talks about how the the TWHs were used to pull a plow all day, wagons, dragged logs, etc. Then on Saturdays, they cleaned them up and rode them to show in the horse show. They were also used to bring in the cows on the farm. As for the trail. Can't be beat. They can scale rocky cliffs like a mt goat. Leap over logs and be taught to crawl under logs

  • @BelindaTN Very true, I am teaching my TWH to drive, all the 'experts' told me not to bother cause he is 17yrs old and at that age he would never tolerate the cart or blinders...I have been working with him for a year, and never once has he put up a complaint, he happily pulls a light drag and the first time I put the harness on him he just looked at me like "okay? what now?" Now to save up for a light training cart. :) What a wonderful breed.

  • The Tennessee Walking Horse is actually a very versatile horse. They not only do trail ride comfortably without having to post all the time, they have a SMOOTH ride not matter what gait they go. At our National Walking Horse Association shows we have hunter hack, jumping, barrel racing, pole bending, trail obstacle, western reining and riding, showmanship, model, every level of dressage, and also water glass. So no, the walking horse is not just a trail horse.

  • @jmdnarri accually, i am around 45 walkers every day....so......... My horse is the only reason im alive and idc what warmbloods can do and i dont care what non gaited breeds do so with that said itmatters what ppl think its an oppion and what ever any body says well neva take me off that breed thank you and have a nice day

  • @jmdnarri ik that but im sayin my walker is every thing to me idc what ppl like i love my horse for who he is and i would always love him and that breed no matter what ppl say i have diabetes and hes the only thing that gets me through

  • @jmdnarri they are..................mine is they are great for any sport u have neva rode one have you? they have the best temperment and uve neva sean one jump ive breed them for a long time

  • @Lordsangels03 I boarded at a walking horse barn for 10 years, rode plenty of them. Really liked a few, but would have gotten very bored if I had bought one. Watched a few girls try to teach theirs to jump, it was always good for a laugh. The walkers that were good at their gait were not good for setting up for a jump even if they could jump high. Good jumping is not about the jump, 90% of good jumping is about the spaces in between, and walkers just don't move right for it.

  • @jmdnarri they do? wow just u keep ur horses and ill keep mine but they really are very nice and versitile

  • @Lordsangels03 Yes they are nice, I just spent a weekend riding with a lovely walker that was comfortable and took good care of his 60yr old rider through the mtns, but the three QH's that the rest of us were on were every bit as good for us. A close friend has an awesome racking TWH that I love to ride, but when she tried to jump him it was near disaster.

  • @jmdnarri well it really depends on the horse my horse can jump trail ride dressage gait and barrel race and hes even cutt a few times they dont take more time to learn to do things

  • @Lordsangels03 learn, no they are smart enough to learn anything you want. I am talking about training their bodies to move the way they need to, to do other things.

I had a student that fell in love with one of the farms walkers, but she wanted to learn to jump. Four months later we were still working on her keping him in a trot so he would not stumble on the cross rails. If she had started with a QH, TB or Arab she would have been ready for a beginning show by then. Very sweet horse though

  • @jmdnarri I am shocked that they would try to teach him to trot, when I was training my gelding to jump I worked on his canter, really teaching him how to collect and extend. He did quite well in a few open shows. And he learned very quickly how to adjust himself. I am not a professional and he wouldn't be able to compete at the upper levels of the sport, but he could go to most open jumpoing show and do well.

  • @Calicat1994 Every horse is different, and walkers are certainly no exception. This horse had a hard time learning where to put his feet in regards to a jump. This was a fairly beginning 13 year old student that wasn't ready to deal with a horse that fumbled in the canter and almost fell on the jump a few times, so we took it down to trotting cavaletti untill he figured out what to do with his feet. This horse would already trot or gait, but she had to learn how to keep him in it first.

  • the best horses in the world! you got it right! amazing that u guys love walkers im not alone haha no arabian is as graceful as a walker! or wramblood is as pretty!

  • awwww thats beautifull

  • I would have to agree that the walker is one of the most versatile horses in the world, I love my walker. In the sixteen years we have been together we have done speed shows, jumping, saddleseat, trail (fun and competative), and now we are learning to drive. And while we didn't win everything, we were in the ribbon more times than not. What is better than that? Awesome video.

  • nice natural tennessee walking horses, the way it should be.

  • Tennessee walking horses are the best

  • I enjoy many different breed, think that they are all beautiful and many are very versatile. But I agree, TWH's have it all. I have competed with my walker in speed events, even placed in a few. learned drassage patterns, gone on competative trail rides and leaned how to jump. All on ONE horse. If that is not the definition of versitle, I don't know what is.

  • TWH are really the best horse in my opinion. My TWH is such a sweet horse and he is so versatile. I went on a 4 hour(no stops) trail ride last autumn and he was the smoothest and calmest horse there. He kept his stamina alot longer than any of the QH there. He out walked all of them there lol. I also compete with him in shows all summer. Just a really great horse breed!!!!

  • Great video and BEAUTIFUL fine examples of the walker breed walkers are all I own and ride for show, trail and competitive trail. This breed suits me so well Walk on Walkers!

  • to jmd- if you want to barrel race, buy a barrel horse, if you love the trail, buy a walker. any of these other breeds you are defending could not withstand a trail ride with me on my walker, i guarantee it!!!

  • My Tennessee Walking horse does most anything, not in his correct gait but he does do anything. He is actually learning to trot like a Quarter Horse (Not Good) But they are pretty Versatile.

  • Can the same Paso that jumps a3'9" course navigate the obstacles?

Can the same ASB that is eventing turn around and, minutes later, run a barrel course?

Can you imagine the training that went in to those QHs and TBs to teach them to do artificially what a TWH does naturally?

There will always be one horse in a breed that excels at something their breed normally doesn't compete at. I'm saying that ALL TWHs can capably do virtually anything that is asked of them. THAT is a versatile horse, to me.

  • I thought I'd made this clear anyway. Being versatile doesn't mean you have a horse that can win at pro barrel racing or national jumping. It means you can take the horse, and go from running a barrel course to navigating a trail obstacle course to jumping in a single day, and the horse is adept at every task asked of it. Name me a racehorse, famous barrel racer, or show jumper that was ever that versatile. There isn't one, b/c if you're competing at a high level of competition thats all you do.

  • @HeavensGaitWalkers Do you think my QH can't do all those things? Because he can, and probably took less time to get him good at it because he dosn't move funny to begin with. Doing anything with a TWH besides a trail ride is like watching the Special Olympics, you cheer that they have put in so much work because its hard for them, but its hard not to laugh at the same time.

  • Dictionary definition of VERSATILE (adj.):

    1. capable of or adapted for turning easily from one to another of various tasks, fields of endeavor, etc.: a versatile writer.

    2. having or capable of many uses: a versatile tool.

    SYNONYMS of versatile:

    adaptable, all-around. handy.

Now do you see why our Walkers are one of the most versatile breeds out there?

And on the contrary, they make EXCELLENT cow horses, as they naturally have a lot of smarts and cow sense.

  • Maybe TWHs don't excel at the highest levels, but it's because they ARE so versatile. You can train a TWH to perform and do well at just about ANY discipline. Maybe they won't be a national champion at it, but that's because they weren't bred to be & the national champions were.

We do Sport Horse/versatility programs, and our gaited horses can navigate a trail obstacle course as well as any other breed, jump 4' and higher, and clock in a barrel or pole time equal to QHs.

  • hey i have a tennessee walking horse and he is just as fast as any other race horses and tennessee walker horses make rlly good barrel racers bc there speed make up for the turns and are faster then QHs

  • Totally excellent video and photos. Love the song as well. And you are a good person to let your horses be what they are. Barefoot or flat shod. I hope you still have them and are still enjoying them today.

  • Kudos to you for flatshoeing or natural trimming!

  • Great video & gorgeous horses!! Good job!

  • That is true what you are saying, although many of us breeders refer to young horses in general as colts.

  • AWESOME!

  • So beautiful!!

    Very pretty horses!!

    and I love this song.

  • wow its really nice to see some tennessee walkers that aren't built up on platforms and have nateral feet, yours are really nice!!

  • I agree completely!! I have a TWH mare that I do everything on. She beats QH's in barrels, she trail rides, reins and jumps..I agree all the way!

  • I totally agree, I have one too and TN Walkers are the really very best. This video is so pretty. :)

  • One of my friends in northern Michigan has at least 15 I work with them, bud (my friend) raised a mare from a colt and he has trained her to lay down and he would lay next to her and he would wrap his arm over her neck and he would talk to her..she loves him a lot.
