  • trance!!

  • Super subtle balance of gumki, meetu, chaapu, naatham, solkattu variety, creativity in establishing progression of gathis into korvais, modern day wholesomeness.....what i love in the exposition of Maestro Trichy Shankaran & Umayalpuram Shivaraman.

  • never heard this style before....he plays it in a way that at some parts it sounds like an echo..amazing!!!

  • @satchi123,

Yes this type of playing is pure Trichy Sankaran style. He seemed to be playing more for enjoyment than anything else. Had a more laid back, cool approach than other thanis

  • Great recording - thanks for posting! Your favorite part (between 2:30 and 3:15) contains all the sollukattu that Pudukkottai Sri Dakshinamurthi Pillai's lessons include. Also at 5:00 through 5:40. The korvais at 7:00 through 7:45 were composed by Sri Pillai-val. The gumkis are superlative!

  • Thanks for sharing a great clip. Very good sound clarity

  • This is simply brilliant! So much grace and clarity.

  • ya i got karai mani with harisankar, full, in adi (greatest !!), roopakam, m.chapp & kh.chapp... also umayalpuram siv doing the same. both will sum up to more than 2 hours (solo only). so, u ppl can compare profusely and talk a lot about tanjavur & palani styles... and enjoy and what not ! Or what else to do!!

palghat mani or palani subrahmaniam pillai... uks or k. mani...

  • @carnaticandslokam ,

That is exciting news. Please upload them soon

  • Is this kucchi mirudhangam? I just can't get enough of this

  • Certainly it is. That effortless chaapu sound can only come from a kutchi mridangam

  • Hey thanks for this and for the other percussion related posts...sankaran sir is real textbook, beautiful to listen to ..a real torchbearer of the Palani style

  • Again Thanks SofD, Sorry to ask in many blogs the same thing but you have a copy of Sri Karaikkudi Mani Sir's personal practicwe with G Harisankar and the same has been removed from youtube later. Any Idea ?

    Thanks

    Dipu

  • Funny thing, i have been asking around for the same thing. A guy named percussionfan had uploaded it i think. Another guy had uploaded a slightly different one with a French title i think. Both disappeared.

Nobody seems to know why the videos are not there.

  • @Shishyandipu check my video

  • definetly a good percussionist. i wish had a drum like his

  • The percussionist actually lives in Canada. And there are alot of mridangam players in Canada. So you may be able to buy one there.

  • elite status...god bless you for posting this

  • no issues
