Why make fun of somthing that the developers put in to benifit the user? besides I have never had a BSOD before, ever. Linux would have an equvilent of a BSOD? if no what does it do? BSODs very frequently do NOT relate to faulty drivers or even hardware at all. its a kernel panic. and linux will crash if your hardware is not performing properly. for example, if you overclock too much it will have a kernel panic. if linux has enough time to determine what is wrong, it will bring you to TTY1 and tell you whats wrong. otherwise, the screen just locks up and the num lock and caps lock just blink, signifying there is a kernel panic

hes correct it can run many windows apps with the help of Wine or if your realy talented a nice reprogram, but there are many programs that have not been given support with wine and are not currently in the databases... most of that can be solved with a virtual box running a windows opperating system. Well. I have to disagree. Ubuntu is an easy to set up distro. I have archlinux set up for the most part, as my server, but sometimes ubuntu is just good all around. I never really liked mac, and now I despise windows. The only issue I have with both, are that they are closed source platforms. You are at the mercy of the programmer. Whereas linux, you can do anything!

Ubuntu is becoming SUCCESSFUL. Pure and simple. Mark Shuttleworth (the creator of the OS) is a very reasonable and well-intentioned person, and they use Debian because that's how open source WORKS. Many, many distros are based on other distros.

Debian is too complicated in it's raw form to be used by most computer users. I'm sorry but that is the reality.

Debian was my first distro to use, it was easy to setup (3.0), of course I had some complications, it was video hardware fault (nvidia), but I never got headaches with Debian, SUSE, Red Hat or Mandriva.

Of course not, Ubuntu is just built on Debian.. It's meant to be simple and useable to all people. It's not meant to destroy the competition, that would just be a side effect.

I'm pretty curious what would happen if Debian would stop it's development, I mean, is Ubuntu big enough to stand on it's own feet? I don't know.. Maybe it is.. Maybe it isn't..

Indeed ubuntu is a debian with many scripts to autoconfigure routines that those people wont lose time learning/fixing - that's the ubuntu's philosophy but IMO, the fact is windows has that feature overdeveloped and we don't need edit any file to fix anything in windows, clicking is so cool
