In addition to funding research for a cure, the government and insurance companies should provide free In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) with Pre-Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) testing to exclude embryos with the HD gene to anyone at-risk for HD who wants it. Even those who don't want to know if they have HD can have kids that will never get the disease or be able to pass on the gene. HD could be eradicated in one generation, saving the government billions in future long term healthcare for HD patients.

@swhitt21 Exclude embryos means killing embryos. Sounds much sweeter. Scientifically, embryos are just as human as us. We murder people day to day, why do we have to sweeten it? Tell it like it is. We murder children who will be a strain on our society. Child sacrifice is alive and well. When we sweeten these truths we rob people of their autonomy and we violate the best principles of ethical conduct in medicine.

Embryos, not fetuses. Scientifically, they are no more human than the flake of skin that just fell off my arm. We're talking about a couple of cells that haven't been implanted in the mother yet. A test that could allow that child, and their children after (and on and on) to be be free of the curse of this horrible disease 50% of them would develop. Their is nothing 'sweet', or ethical for that matter, about allowing unnecessary suffering and death that could so easily be prevented.

The Government is involved either way. If they don't cover PGD they pay several million dollars for the long term care of the 50% that will get Huntington's, or they can spend 10k for PGD and eradicate this disease in one generation- and prevent much unnecessary suffering. HD is progressive and takes 10-15 yrs to cause death, almost all sufferers end up in state/federally funded long term care facilities for years. Since HD is financially devastating to families, few can afford PGD themselves.

@swhitt21 Whipe out the disease by killing the babies who carry it? No. Just not. I'm for genetic screening of parents to assess potential risks involved, but NOT aborting babies.

Yes, these are classic educational videos used in medicine for this purpose. Full consent was given and was able to be given by the compus mentus patient.
