The machine was manufactured in the 19-teens. It was sold under various brand names, most notably Melodograph and was offered as a merchandise premium. "Buy 10 ratchet-latchets and get a free phonograph." The machine was designed to play both vertically and laterally cut records. As you are showing it, it will play Edison/Pathe records. Pivot the head 90 degrees to the right and it will play conventional records. Your example appears to be in pretty good shape for a "free" phonograph.

Early Columbia graphophones used vertical modulation, it could be that or some early Pathe model. Never seen an Edison with that arrangement, though.

You could play Diamond Discs with this machine by using fibre needles or thereabouts.

It's a portable Bell's gramophone.

I have seen it before. Columbia made it for European sale.

Una pequeña corrección: no es un fonógrafo sino gramófono.
Suena muy bien, eh. Muy bueno.

on second thought it might be a pathe

A Pathe would have the sapphire ball arrangement, not steel.
