I LOVED the tempo....! The first time i heard this song was with the World Youth Choir conducted by Anton Armstrong, but he did way more slow than u did... this tempo gave the song a whole diferent character... LOVED IT... Tnx for sharing...!
My only complaint is 0:27 the basses in the lord it was extremely short my other people take advantage of the low basses there and hold it but besides that the version is extremely good
Musically, aside from the previous notes, the song was great. But what happened to the SOUL? Its just so void of any spirit... which is absolutely vital to any decent rendering of a negro "spiritual." :/
You know, I like the tempo this choir's taken. Besides just liking the way it sounds, I have two more specific reasons: 1. you can clearly hear the text, and 2. I've heard too many Moses Hogan pieces race like runaway trains. Come on, everybody, clearly we all know/have sung his stuff, and we're all probably guilty of rushing it at one time or another.
I disagree as well. I sang this song at District Chorus my sophomore year of high school and we took it about this speed until the end...then we went faster! Great, great song!
Im sorry but this arrangment has been messed up at bar 5 they were supposed to swartzando to a forte but they only got to a MF but other then that it was great and at the end they shud have sped it up a bit =]
Singing this for New Mexico Allstate.

thank youuu
that swartzando makes the song to the point where its not worth it if you dont do swartzando to piano then crescendo. :D

This comment has received too many negative votes show
could've gone a little slower, but other then that, well done!
trumpet4life 3 years ago
I disagree. Have you ever heard recordings of the Moses Hogan chorale singing this arrangement? They take it even a bit faster than this.
