  • One of few songs that brings tears to my eyes. Absolutely beautiful. Long live Opeth.

  • The name of the song is tribute to the prog era of Genesis with their song also being named For Absent Friends

  • TOO SHORT. FUCK!

  • I can't stop listening to Opeth! Must-write-my-own-songs! Aaaaargh! :-D

Favorite band ever. Then Death, then At the Gates. Haters will hate.

  • @Green2711 better known as an idiot if they dont like this song

  • @Green2711 If Chuck Norris had disliked this video, it would've been erased by the one and only netmaster of youtube. Prolly some random idiot was that :)

  • @keithblabbermouth this comment brought tears to my eyes

  • 2:17 ARRGHH I NEED MASTER´S APRETTIENCE NOW!

  • @TheOsizz You mean Master's Apprentices? :P

  • Just in one time of listening I cried, was uplifted, and I began to miss my family and home, but was given courage to keep moving on. Pure bliss <3

  • I stayed home sick from school and all I feel like doing is listening to Opeth..

  • Quoting a famous eighteenth century's Opera, "First Music, Then Words"

  • I Wish This Song Was 10 Minutes Long

  • For absenth Lyrics, any way this is a beatifull instrumental. Love Opeth

  • A friend of mine passed away two days ago. This song summarizes my feelings about that with such precision I cannot do anything but cry about it.

  • I love this song; I nostalgia so hard remembering two friends who have passed away when listening to it and i can play along with it! ;)

  • Amazing music. It reminds some of the Buckethead's masterpieces. Both Mikael and Buckethead can really give soul to their music

  • This is so relaxed and wistful sounding. You can't help but love this as soon as you hear it - at least I did.

Opeth need to do an entire album of instrumentals like this

  • @novembre8211 Hell yeah. That would be one incredible album. This song just gives me goosebumps. its sooo beautiful

  • Sounds quite happy to me, what're ye all talking about.

  • everybody stop whoring out your feelings on a youtube comment section.

  • my childhood friend died last year victim of a robbery, can't help but to think of him, now this is fucking sad

rip wherever the fuck you are man

  • I love how Opeth arent afraid to use jazz and folk in their music. Great band!

  • Eluveitie one of the worst bands I've probably ever heard. How can you even compare them to Opeth. They have freaking bag pipes in their songs. Mikael Akerfeldt is the best musical composer there has been and ever will be in my opinion.

  • Loneliness in Music

  • Amen

  • this song is for my best friend.my only real friend.only people on earth who understands my thoughts,feelings...

  • im kinda drunk,i dont know why but i want to listen this song over and over again.its like a fish needs water.this song is just too deep.

  • this makes me feel like i lost someone i loved even though i did not.

  • Opeth is the goddess of progressive death metal .. my feelings move as they want to

  • :{}</

  • hermosa y gran cancion

  • only Opeth are capable of pulling this off

  • Can anyone say GOOSEBUMPS? ++++++

  • @2eelShmeal Goosebumps... :p

  • no dislikes... exactly how it should be.

  • would be great to take part in their jam sessions, so talanted musicians...

  • This is another awesome instrumental by Opeth. They could make a whole album of instrumentals like this and Patterns in the Ivy and I would be all over it : )

  • And to all who see this, just label these previous comments spam. Opeth vids dont deserve comment wars. There, Sycamorehill, Closure..... (Another great Opeth song!) dont take this further, I certainly wont.

  • If you liked this you should check out Dark Tranquillity's The Mind's eye, or At The Gates' And the World Returned.

  • @SycamoreHill14 We dont listen to Opeth to read comments advertising shit copy-bands who play equally shitty as their shitty, shallow material suggests from name alone. Go advertise on Vevo.

  • @Instrumentofgaia Someone hasn't gotten laid lately."Shallow" is what you are displaying by concluding that the music is not good, based on the name of the song/band. If you don't want to listen to it, don't. By your statement I don't know if I should consider you a troll, or a douche. I'll just call you an ass-hole and call it a night.

  • @SycamoreHill14 My PROBLEM; you presumptive little punk, is not the bands themselves (taste is relative to one's own collected past experience, thus everyone thinks different... as it should be), but that you come on here and you play the card of "If you like (imput band name), then you should listen to (band), (song), (another band). It is advertising, nothing less. I've seen the same comment on many, MANY, other band's vids, regardless of genre. Eg; "If you like meshuggah, listen to STATIC X".

  • @SycamoreHill14 ...My ultimate point being, in this case; people listen to Opeth and and watch their concert videos for the sake of enjoying Opeth... just like people would watch Meshuggah concerts/material and Gojira, or Obituary or Cannable corpse- Whatever! People dont care about comment advertisements because bands of these kind can never be copied with regards to their musicianship's essence. Find a better use for your time perhaps you may? Just a constructive suggestion.

  • @Instrumentofgaia Swing and a miss. Again qualities you accuse me of are then displayed by yourself. Believe me, I do not listen to any of the bands you listed. My original comment was intended for any one who enjoyed the style of the song, and perhaps wanted to listen to something similar. Comments like that are how I discovered a lot of music. And stop proclaiming a sort of untouchable quality that you believe Opeth has. Because no one is trying to "copy" them. I enjoy music for the ...

  • @Instrumentofgaia music, and if someone provides me with new stuff, I actually listen to it. I'm not some pretentious little prick who holds one band up to a standard that cannot be "copied". Again, if you didn't want to listen to the song I mentioned, don't. But there are actually people out there that want to listen to more than just one band/genre. I may get some negative feed back here, but Eluveitie (I'm advertising, so be it) is better than and is not a copy of Opeth.

  • @SycamoreHill14 Yes, you are advertising, once again... let the bad feedback flow thats your decision, you speech. And by saying "(this band) is better than (band), though (you say yourself) not even of the same two genres", yes that is being presumptive. You cannot compare the two, for the genre reason... and for the simple reason. ^_____^ Fuck you, have a nice day, and listen to them then.

  • @SycamoreHill14 ...Leave advertising out of Opeth. It's just abnoxius and I'm just one of thousands else who think alike. It gets *tireing* to say the VERY LEAST.

  • @SycamoreHill14 Eluveitie? Better than Opeth? Are you fucking kidding me? Those faggots with their failgrowls and shitty music in general should GTFO. It's like comparing Opeth to Bieber. You're an idiot. Get out. I listen to tons of bands and genres btw, and I still am 100% certain Eluveitie is as metal as Linkin Faggots are.

  • @JukiBelak Ok, that's your opinion. But here is a short list of bands that are much better than this pretentious bunch: Dark Tranquillity, Ensiferum, Suidakra, Skyfire.....

  • @SycamoreHill14 I can't stand bands like that, that new Eurogothfag flavored death metal. (I'm 1st gen Swede...)Well Ensiferum gets a pass. But Mikael's a true songwriter and throws so much far out shit together from black metal earlier on to 70's prog bands....Sets Opeth above any band of similar genre to me, I don't give a shit if Opeth is selling out or whatever. They deserve the attention..

  • @SycamoreHill14 Yeah I gotta agree with Earl only Ensiferum gets a pass.

  • @SycamoreHill14 no.

  • @SycamoreHill14 no.

    especially not Dark Tranquillity.

  • Deliverance -- such an underrated record. I remember hearing this album for the first time when it came out. Can't believe its been nearly ten years already...Opeth are timeless.

  • @keithblabbermouth totally!! i like i already heard this song before knowing opeth

  • I just break down in tears every time I hear this remembering one of my own absent friends who died a few years ago. Rest in peace Angel, I Miss You

  • 2 minutes and 17 seconds of pure perfection... I just can't describe what I feel while I listen to this song... the melody at 0:50 is just unbelievable, the whole song gives me so much peace and nice memories... Opeth is almost the only band that knows how to get straight to the heart with these kind of melodies...

  • this sends chills down my spine, it has much feeling

  • We miss you Fatts

  • oh my god. this is amazing. poetry without words. art with sound. such beauty and grace. so much emotion and power in the song.

  • @truemusicmeaning Couldn't agree more with you!

  • @truemusicmeaning Therefore, it's not a song... cause no one sings :P. People make that mistake often...

  • @Aensgard accually my friend music and songs could come from anything and anywhere. and u r kinda correct this would technically be considered a composition, but music is music and to somebody with a passion and love for music such as myself i would consider this a song there may not be words but the song does still sing. i can feel what the song is saying i may not know what it is saying but i can still feel it.

  • There's so much to describe about this song, and all the emotions that it makes is go through. This is one song that reminds me of my o' summer days and how sometimes they were depressing. This song also makes me wanna go to some places I've been before that are so memorable. Nothing could ever compare the emotions this song make you feel... Nor do I.

  • This song makes me want to cry with its beautifulness.

    So much feelings come alive.

  • Infinite thanks for posting this Green2711. I couldn't agree more with MilVit. This band has highly influenced me since I first discovered them.

  • Green2711, you are the man! THX

And Thx Opeth, for all the good moments we all had with our (now) Absent Friends, especially with the ones that shared the felling of listening one of the most wonderfull bands on the world. You guys
