I knew it was going to be one of those 2 part legs when the clue said "Make your way to Phil" rather than "Make your way to the next Pit Stop". They did the same thing in season 7.

According to probability calculations, it'll take an average of 37 tries to have a 50% chance of finding the first clue. If each doll takes 10 seconds to open, it'll take on average 370 seconds to find the first clue. That's a little over 6 minutes. I'd say that's better than the car wash.
