The monster did not attack because Eko had no fear of it. Fear seems to be how it controls/judges those who are on the island. Same thing happened with Desmond in Happily Ever After. Desmond shows no fear, monster is confused, Desmond gets pushed down a well.

How come the monster didn't kill eko the first time but got him later? I'm guessing the smoke judges the person in some way and determines if they should be taken. It was almost as if Eko's dark past stopped the smoke or something. Does anyone have a better explanation?

I watched season 1, 2 and a bit of 3 and was wondering if there were any official explaination of Dharma Initiative in later seasons. I assume that if Dharma can create the smoke monster then maybe the're behind the cloverfield monster, which explains the logo at the beginning of the movie.

Mostly everything regarding the Dharma Initiative (with a few exceptions) is explained by the end of Season 3. The main episode to do this is called "The Man Behind the Curtain." In fact, I found by Season 4, I don't really care about the Dharma Initiative anymore... far more interesting mysteries to explore.

The actor that played Eko only wanted to be on the show for a year. Since the Ana-Lucia character was killed in the second season, the writers asked the actor if they could keep him around into season 3 so that it wasn't like they were killing everyone at once. I'm pretty sure J.J. Abrams had nothing to do with this decision.

Did you guys see that there's a plane taking off in the smoke? After all the flashes are done and it's quiet and the smoke is leaving toward the right, a jet takes off toward the left. It takes off from the center of the screen out of the midst of the smoke. Of course it's very quick, but it's neat. Remember it's not part of the flashes, it after they're over.

I think the whole theme of the island and the monster is redemption:

the monster looks into peoples' past and judges them.

I'm not sure what eko did later on to piss off the monster, but it would make sense. I think ive forgotten something crucial in Eko's chain of events in series 2.

I think this is the best part of lost because its confusing and theres so much going on I doubt this will be answered for a while
