Ha! Watching this video, I was like "okay, okay, this girl thinks kinda like me for BC options. Hormones suck. And then you mentioned a menstrual cup and I was all "HELL YES!" :) Awesome video- asking my doctor about it soon... Hopefully me being 17 (and never been pregnant) doesn't matter- cause I really, really don't want to go on th pill!!!!
@JRockLovinAtheist Yes, except that it's 10 years. I've had mine about 8 years now and would just get it replaced after 2 more years, but with the advent of less-invasive sterilization methods for women, I'm looking into something permanent.
I got the copper one put in day before yesterday. It didn't really hurt much but I had lots of cramping afterwards. Anyone who is afraid to do it because of the pain- I suggest you take some Ibuprofen and go for it. It's no worse than menstrual cramps and insertion takes five minutes.
@beazly85 I've had an Mirena since 7-7-10 It took me about 2 mos for my face to clear up again. I had some vagina dryness for the first month too. I gained about 10 lbs in 4 mos, but haven't gained anymore. I get kinda emotional around my period time (more than before), but I've had no other problems. I also don't get cramps anymore :D!!! Good luck with yours :) Just remember to check for your strings after each period. The strings will get soft after~2 mos
I think its safe for 17 year olds. I'm 17 and they said its fine for me... me apt is on wednesday at Planned Parenthood. I'm pretty and anxious. But hope is all worth it rite?.. :)
@starkiss67 omg...it was the worst pain ever - the nurse said that my usterus (when they expanded the arms of my mirena) was feeling something that was " exactly like a delivery contraction" I was sweating- turned very pale - and almost passed out. They said it was gonna be a 'slight' pinch. I actually cursed - not at the nurse practitioner...at the pain.
@yukihai Yeah even though my experience with Merana was really bad it was worth it in the end I never got pregnant while on it and I never had to think about possibly getting pregnant because it not like the pill.
ok, i'm a guy but i'm going to ask anyways. i heard of this device and want my woman to have it as well.
-which device is better, effective, safer, longer lasting, less painful, less bleeding, etc...?
(The Paregard T - intra Uterine Device or Mirena IUD - Intra Uterine Device)?
yes of course we're also going to ask the clinic doctor or nurse for advise as well but i would like to know from you ladies as well and which is better or recommend?

When I was young I used condoms. Now that I'm older I let guys cum in me because that is how I cum hardest. They pump harder when I tell them to fill me up with hot cum.
The IUD thins the endometrium to prevent implantation. The ACOG and AMA changed the definition of pregnancy to exclude pre-implantation, so -voila! - starving your child to death before implantation is not abortion. This is not its primary effect, of course, but it can happen. Read the manufacturers' patient/doctor info carefully. BTW, some NFP methods have over 99% method effectiveness.
No, the IUD acts as a sort of spermicide and disrupts the sperm so that they can't get to the egg. You have old data, possibly tainted by propaganda. Of course NFP has a superb effectiveness--if you USE IT RIGHT. The problem is that people don't use it right. It's a great method but people's adherence to the method is poor.
This is so sad that people think they have a lot of bad choices, and the IUD is the least bad. Besides its dangers, the IUD also acts as an abortifacient.
Natural family planning is safe and effective, good for your relationship, soul and body. We've used it for many years.
Actually the IUD is not an abortifacient--that is a myth. I'm glad you found a method you like. However, many people don't adhere well to NFP and this is not a realistic method for irresponsible people who should have an effective birth control nonetheless (or actually, more so!).
Just so you know. May not have hormones, but copper drives your estrogen levels up. Don't want to be a pessimist. So, when they say there is not hormones put in, they are not lying. But, they are not telling you that the copper, which is what makes it possible that it is a birth control method, increases the estrogen that you have in your body already.
Good point! It does indeed technically affect ones hormones. However, alcohol and sugar also tend to drive up estrogen, and other things we encounter every day. My point being that these have much LESS effect than hormonal methods of birth control, so I will definitely take an IUD over the Pill. But you are right.
Hey, I know you posted this ages ago...but do you have info on this? I want a copper IUD specifically because I don't want hormones...so how does it compare?
Yeah, screw all the other data and millions of people who have used it with success! You know this one person it didn't work for so it IT MUST NOT WORK AT ALL. Hey I know this one dude whose seat belt failed, so I guess seat belts don't work.
I was 15 when I started "The Pill" Ortho nuvum777. I was on them nonstop for 15 years and then I ended up with Breast Cancer. I truly believe the pill contributed to my cancer because it was Estrogen pos. I am now 6 years Cancer Free...thank God. The Copper Iud seems like a wonderful choice for at this time..thx for the video!!
Thank you!!! they all mess up your hormones, the coper IUD sounds really good. Im on yasmin at the moment an my mood is messed up and my blood pressure has increased whilst my libido is down so im going to stop.
i'm going for the copper one cos since i had the mirena put in last year ive gained 3 stone (42 pounds), never been this big before and havn't changed my diet of lifestyle. its also given me lumpy HUGE breast and fat stomach and terrible mood swings, so roll on next week when i get the copper one. and thank god for england and our free health care, it wont cost a thing
Couldn't stand any of the other birth controls (pill, depo, patch)so I went for the IUD copper and very much happy! Got the "10 year plan" lol and fine with the IUD since 2006...Personally the Copper IUD is good to me...
Some women say their cramps and heavy bleeding never stopped, and they had 2 remove it. Others say, including 2 of my best friends say that their cramps and heavy bleeding stopped after 3,4 months and they periods got lighter and lighter, then disappeared. So every woman has different experiences with it. Every woman can't handle IUDs,but it works 4 me and I love it.
I had my Mirena put in last Nov,and it does cause heavy bleeding and cramps, mine already stopped. It lightens ur periods and they stop altogether after 1 year. I switched 2 Mirena b cuz I didn't wanna think or worry about birth control for 5 years, plus after 1 year,u stop havin periods.
you should have mentioned the name of the iud for people that dont know that there are two types. theres with and without hormones. next time be more detailed because someone could just get an iud with the hormones called mirena which lasts up to 5 years. specify
while i argee that copper IUDs and vaginal menstral cups are great I dont think being insulting is any way to teach people. Also, I dont think it was the hormones that made you crazy, i think you just are crazy. I'm glad you are so supportive of IUDs but the beauty of our market today is that there is a variety of contraceptions available to fit the diverse lifestyles out there. Don't be so quick to pass judgement
Way to not be insulting to "teach people." I should learn from your spectacular example.
Who said my judgment was quick? I'm tired of hearing people whine about how expensive the Pill is. The POINT was that the IUD is available on the market and it's not used because of outdated hear-say. People are afraid of it.
Anyway, I resent being told to not be judgmental on my own freakin' channel. Don't like it? Move on. When did having an opinion become a negative thing?
99.4% effective for 10-12 years. In the US under Title X of the health code people can get cheap birth control, some clinics may even give it for free and only charge for the visit and check ups.
The only major side effect is cramping and increased flow. 100% non-hormonal!
If inserted by an experienced OB/GYN, clinician, or midwife there is little risk of complications during insertion.
If its not for you, then happy hunting, there's tons of options!
