I don't know how to explain it, you know bass guitar has bass in it ( i know that was stupid..), and the bass amp amplifies its bass even more, but a regular guitar amp (combo) wont amplify the bass much, so the bass is not as much, "strong" as with a bass amp. And I agree with you, it would be better with a bass guitar, but my point was, that if they don't have a bass guitar, at least use a bass amp... Or get a good mixer, with preamps, and good speakers..
