They're not old, only about 37 or so, since Hector and Eliwood's support conversions hint they are 17 or so. There is a 20 year gap between FE7 and 6- Eliwood looks kinda bad because he's sick at the moment, it's to illustrate that fact. He's still considered the greatest knight in Lycia according to the narrative.
