@michaeloneill1993 Idiot lights? They're call indicator lights cause well you know... they indicate something. Read in my other reply, if the Marauder has traction control it needs it. Feel free to get educated more on the car by going to mercury marauder dot net.
wow what a christmas tree, time to do some basic repairs to get rid of all them lights, or is that on your list after ya screw it up, for not listening to your car?
@michaeloneill1993 You should really learn to read more before trying to type down to someone. As I've typed in I don't know how many other replies, Air Suspension light is on cause I turned the system off, O/D (Overdrive) is turned off for obvious reasons..., ABS and Brake light are on because I have traction control. I only corrected the Revs Per Mile for the speedometer when testing the smaller drag radials out. The traction control sys needs to see a larger rear tire than front to work.
@michaeloneill1993 Then your Marauder must not have traction control. A lot of owners who don't have it on their cars run the same size around because it makes it easier to rotate tires. Marauders with traction control must have a larger tire (3% taller in diameter than the front) otherwise they have to turn the traction control off via the switch or it will kick in at 45 mph + or under hard acceleration.
...... read my other replies..... I turned the air suspension off, ABS and BRAKE are on because I only adjusted the Revs Per Mile in my street tune for accurate speedometer reading while testing out my drag radials as I was waiting for my tuner to send me a tune with transmission corrections for smaller tires and OverDrive was turned off for obvious reasons. Car was perfectly safe.
@DK99824 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM). When you correct the speedometer due to a tire change you adjust the Revs or Revs Per Mile setting.Go look at some tires and they even lists how many Revs Per Mile the tire does.....
Hey man, it's been awhile. How is that thing these days? I notice you have the same issue with your tune as I do. That lockup in 3rd is too early and just sucks. I suggested my tuner delay mine in 3rd gear at WOT til about 90 mph. I'm running the stock tune right now and it almost pulls harder stock tune than the chip with early lock in 3rd.
@ctrlraven Yeah, I just noticed that. I was searching the wrong section looking for new vids but did find your part two. The lock-up seems to be much better now. I did just one video the other day called "Revised Tune". It's the only most recent one I have with the tune changes and it doesn't show much because the traction is almost non-existent.
I have a question, though. I want to buy a Marauder, but the first thing I want to change is the transmission. How easy/hard would it be to convert it from an automatic to a manual? Would that even be advisable?
In this video it's because the torque converter is locking up before going into 2nd gear. I made another video recently and tuned out the converter locking up before going into 2nd gear.
@ctrlraven I got about 5.1-5.2 on that run so I figure its capable of running under 5 easily, but I got to say for a car of that size to be running under 5 on the 0-60 you must have at least 400 whp to the rear tires, right?
I wouldn't go by the video. I'd say the car is a solid 5.5 0-60 car if anything. That video was taken when I had 3.55 gears in and my drag radials on which gave me an effective rear gear of 3.89 ratio. I think back then I was around 270rwhp/289tq maybe? I have 4.10 gears now, 265/50-18 street tires (effective 4.15 rear gear ratio) and some other stuff done.
Thanks! I've just been waiting to get some trans work done and tune adjustment and I'll post up a new video since I have 4.10 gears now compared to having 3.55 gears in this video.
I knew about the ones in the late 60's but not the 03/04 until I was shopping for a new car late 2005 and it was either an 04 Marauder or 05 Lincoln LS.
ill tell u what.. i am more of an import guy but i would love to own that car. they r big, comfortable, sporty, luxurious, and quick. hands down im suprised there arent more of these on the road..
Not all of them and it can be tuned out. I've got two tunes right now, one does it and the other does not. The one that does have the slight lag I do run slower with at the track.
At that time I had basically all stock piping, cut the rear cats out, Flowmaster 40 series mufflers and Meg's res-delete tips. Got all new 2.5" Mandrel bent 409 stainless piping now from the stock manifolds all the way to the tips with two Magnaflow high flow cats, custom H-pipe design and Aero Turbine AT2525 mufflers. Check my recent vids for the new exhaust note.
Trans table in the tune was for a 4R70W transmission and I have the 4R75W, just caused a slight lag because of the torque converter locking/unlocking.
Read other comments much? Air suspension was turned off, Overdrive was turned off, ABS and Brake lights are on because I had on a smaller tire on in the rear and the traction control has to see a +3% tire difference between front and rear tires for it to work properly. Front tire was a 235/50-18 and rear tire was a 255/50-16 which is my drag radial for track use.
Bad-ass brakes? Sure maybe if you upgraded to some large Wilwoods or Baer brakes, factory is marginable at best especially when a supercharger has been added on. The exhaust isn't 3". It's 2.5" from the manifold to the first cat after that it's 2.25" to the second cat, the H mid-pipe is only 1-7/8" to the mufflers, after muffler tail pipes are 2.25" to 3.5" Meg's resonated exhaust tips.
Most people think that but the only thing it shares is some parts and the chassis design. It is defined as it's own model, not a special edition GM or anything like that.
I wish to HELL Ford put these Marauders out back to counter the 94-96 Caprice/Impala domination... I imagine having 2 large hot rots to choose from would have stirred more interest in having them on the street.
Yo bro I just purchased the black REFL. inserts for the rear bumper. Now I'm onto the tires. Any good places to checkout. I think I'll do 235 allround.
No, it's faster, the normal CV has 227hp/289tq, CVPI has 250hp/289tq, Marauder has 302hp/318tq. The Marauder (4195 lbs) weighs less than a CVPI because it's not carrying around the extra gear and equipment (lights, cage, wiring, etc). Take a Grand Marquis sport it up inside, throw in a 03/04 Mach 1 motor, change the suspension a little and you have a Marauder basically, of course there is more details to complete the car.
@ctrlraven actually, and I don't mean to be a nerd, but CV is actually 224hp/ 272tq (239hp/287tq with dual exhaust), and CVPI is 250hp/297tq....but you're about the Marauder
Smart decision to leave the Overdrive OFF when doing a fast acceleration run like this and in normal city driving. It's less risky and you have more control of your speed, which a lot of people don't realize. I only turn it ON when I get on the freeway.
pushbutton overdrive on Automatics is normally for 4th and 5th gear ranges. Leaving it engaged while 1st gear is applied means the other clutch pack is getting shredded to shit. So if you like paying for new transmissions, then by all means, leave it on. : )
@WunderDoob THANKS ALOT BRO, MY 94 LINCOLN TOWN CAR HAS PUSH BUTTON OD AT THE TIP OF THE SHIFTER. I ALWAYS HAVE IT ON, I NEVER KNEW IT WAS HARMFUL TO THE TRANS. DOES HAVING IT ON OR OFF EFFECT ACCELERATION/SPEED?
honestly it depends on the configuration of the transmission. I know that Ford RWD transmissions like yours is probably a "AOD" literally " automatic with over-drive" and the overdrive does not actually engage until you are in 4th gear and cruising, so I wouldn't worry about it. Some older Mitsubishi transmissions actually have 4th and 5th (OD) controlled electronically by the push button, which doesn't make any sense, and you can't leave it on in 1st-3rd because it does damage
@WunderDoob OH OK WELL GOOD TO KNOW ITS SAFE BECAUSE IF IT WASN'T IT WOULD DEF BE TOO LATE. THANKS FOR BEING SO HELPFUL AND NOT A ASS HOLE LIKE THE OTHER KID.
The 5.4 DOHC is too wide and would taken a lot more work to make something like that happen. The Marauder project manager did want to put a supercharged motor (03-04 SVT Cobra motor) in the car but the bean counters said no.
A 330 cid v8 is too wide?? For a car that’s basically a glorified Crown Vic? No way, I think it had to do with a list of other reasons?
I mean if there going to build a muscle car then put some more cubes under the hood. Even Chrysler got that right. And when the new 6.4L (390 cid) makes it debut, then I'll be waiting if Chrysler is still in business.
Check the width specs on a 5.4 SOHC to a 5.4 DOHC. The SOHC fits in but the DOHC is too wide because the heads are much larger. Talk to the Marauder project manager Steve Babcock he will tell you why Ford did what they did to the Marauder.
They are so under tuned from factory, that is the biggest problem. The Marauder project manager originally wanted the car to be tuned more and have 4.10 gears from factory but FMC bean counters said no. A bone stock Marauder usually dynos out around 235-242rwhp and 247-255rwtq.
No way it was in second with a quick shift like that.Depending on the tranny it either would started in first the went to second,or like mine it would have started in second and never shifted at all.o/d doesnt make a difference.
he started out in second cause it starts out in second when you have the o/d off and have it in drive...it would of been alot faster if he would have started out in first.
What are you talking about? lol The car is an automatic it's ALWAYS going to start in first gear. If I had put it in Second gear then it would of just shifted from First to Second and held Second and not shift into Third gear.
@ctrlraven Not nitpicking, while the guy who said you started out in second because you were in "OD" does not understand what OD and D actually stand for.
On the other hand, there are automatics that start in second when you put them in "2". The 4R70W used to do that in some cars, like the Thunderbird for example.
@ctrlraven Not in a Ford. Place it in second, and it starts and stays in second until you shift out. Fords have had second gear start in their automatics since the Ford-O-Matic era.
No it will NOT. Fords have a great feature, for the past 35 years, that if you shift the tranny into 2nd gear, it will take off in second gear. It skips first, and starts in second.
It's a MUST when driving in snow, or other slick driving conditions. Living in Indiana, and being a Ford buff, currently driving a '97 Thunderbird 4.6 as a daily driver, having the ability of starting off in second gear is a BIG plus. Ford has a better idea.
@Dustin4330 Doesn't make any sense when the overdrive button was designed for a higher gear ratio. This isn't a Benz in comfort mode. You need to first understand what Overdrive means.
I wonder why everybody thinks turning the O/D off makes it faster? At full throttle for one, the computer will not shift to OD until it is redlined in 3rd. Drives me nuts to see people doing that.
Going WOT with the O/D engage can wear down the O/D band eventually since it is the weakest part of the transmission. It's force of habit for me to turn off the traction control and O/D and engage the O/D once I've gotten to 65 mph cruising speed or faster on the highway.
@ctrlraven OK, I guess that makes a bit more sense. Although I didn't think the overdrive band would engage until it shifts into 4th which at WOT would be around 120+
Well I originally I had thought about going that fast but it was the first time I had the drag radials on so I wasn't sure about them just yet so I had decided to just take it to 90 instead of burring the needle.
@Carpoof1 disables the lockup in lots of transmissions 4r70/75w's have a tendency to develop a nasty shudder if you leave it on all the time and drive it hard.
Thanks! Read through the comments, already explained why it does it. The Marauder and a CVPI (Cop Vic) are two totally different cars, much better off with going with a Marauder since the performance level already starts higher than a CVPI unless you have a bunch of money to throw at the CVPI just to get it up to the Marauder level.
Why is the high temp light on? At least i think it is...the light on the left hand side? Your temp guage looks fine though. Is it because of the tune?
Air Susp (rear air leveling suspension was turned off), OverDrive Off (of course), ABS and then Brake (ABS and Brake are on because the computer is not seeing a 3% height difference in the rear between front and rear for the traction control to function properly. The corrected tune fixed that so no unwanted or unneeded lights are on.
2003 Marauder transmission parameters are very slightly different from the 2004 model. My tuner copied his transmission parameters to my tune and his car was an 03 and forgot mine was an 04. Issue was fixed the next day with a new updated tune with 2004 transmission parameters.
The custom tune I had was a trial and error setup up cause I was running a 3500 high stall converter with 3.55 gears. Trans programing was for a 2003 Marauder and mine is an 04, the drop in the rpms was the converter locking up and then unlocking. Running a corrected 04 trans tune now and the converter only locks up when I am in Overdrive.
It wasn't a gear shift. It was a very small hesitation with the rpms, not a significant drop. Listen closely and you might hear it, people say I have good hearing and I can barely notice it!
Correct it was not a gear change, the hesitation is the converter trying to lock up and unlock so quick per the trans tune which had 2003 programing and mine is a 2004, that's the "hiccup" difference as we call it because 2003 has a 4R70W trans and 2004 has a 4R75W trans.

I wish to HELL Ford put these Marauders out back to counter the 94-96 Caprice/Impala domination... I imagine having 2 large hot rots to choose from would have stirred more interest in having them on the street.

Is a marauder as fast as the normal crown vic or the interceptor? also isn't the marauder hauling more weight from the luxury of the vehicle?
ilshwak 1 year ago
@ilshwak
Take a Grand Marquis sport it up inside, throw in a 03/04 Mach 1 motor, change the suspension a little and you have a Marauder basically, of course there is more details to complete the car.
ctrlraven 1 year ago
@ctrlraven actually, and I don't mean to be a nerd, but CV is actually 224hp/ 272tq (239hp/287tq with dual exhaust), and CVPI is 250hp/297tq....but you're about the Marauder
chpman2013 1 year ago
@chpman2013
Depends on what range of years you're looking at. I was talking about the hp/tq in the 2003-2004 year range.
ctrlraven 1 year ago
@ctrlraven yeah, that's what I was referring to, the 2003+ models
chpman2013 1 year ago
As far as the specs on Wiki you're correct. I may have mixed up CV/GM specs when I was writing it.

@ctrlraven
The '03 '04 is 302HP 318 lb/ft torque.
bigluke76 1 year ago
@bigluke76
Yeah I know that. Wasn't talking about the Marauder. I already stated the hp/tq for the Marauder about a month ago if you look in the other comments.

Smart decision to leave the Overdrive OFF when doing a fast acceleration run like this and in normal city driving. It's less risky and you have more control of your speed, which a lot of people don't realize. I only turn it ON when I get on the freeway.
adogg619 1 year ago
@adogg619
Exactly, I keep Overdrive off until I doing 45 mph or faster for a period of time.

@adogg619 WHY DO YOU KEEP OVER DRIVE OFF? DOSEN'T THAT HELP SAVE GAS?

@KingFreak07
pushbutton overdrive on Automatics is normally for 4th and 5th gear ranges. Leaving it engaged while 1st gear is applied means the other clutch pack is getting shredded to shit. So if you like paying for new transmissions, then by all means, leave it on. : )
WunderDoob 1 year ago
@WunderDoob THANKS ALOT BRO, MY 94 LINCOLN TOWN CAR HAS PUSH BUTTON OD AT THE TIP OF THE SHIFTER. I ALWAYS HAVE IT ON, I NEVER KNEW IT WAS HARMFUL TO THE TRANS. DOES HAVING IT ON OR OFF EFFECT ACCELERATION/SPEED?
KingFreak07 1 year ago
@KingFreak07
honestly it depends on the configuration of the transmission.
WunderDoob 1 year ago
@WunderDoob OH OK WELL GOOD TO KNOW ITS SAFE BECAUSE IF IT WASN'T IT WOULD DEF BE TOO LATE. THANKS FOR BEING SO HELPFUL AND NOT A ASS HOLE LIKE THE OTHER KID.

Why did Ford not think about putting in a 385 HP 5.4 from the Mustang SVT?
mojame100 1 year ago
@mojame100
The 5.4 DOHC is too wide and would taken a lot more work to make something like that happen. The Marauder project manager did want to put a supercharged motor (03-04 SVT Cobra motor) in the car but the bean counters said no.
ctrlraven 1 year ago
@ctrlraven
A 330 cid v8 is too wide?? For a car that’s basically a glorified Crown Vic? No way, I think it had to do with a list of other reasons?
I mean if there going to build a muscle car then put some more cubes under the hood. Even Chrysler got that right. And when the new 6.4L (390 cid) makes it debut, then I'll be waiting if Chrysler is still in business.
mojame100 1 year ago
@mojame100
Check the width specs on a 5.4 SOHC to a 5.4 DOHC. The SOHC fits in but the DOHC is too wide because the heads are much larger. Talk to the Marauder project manager Steve Babcock he will tell you why Ford did what they did to the Marauder.
ctrlraven 1 year ago
@ctrlraven
WEll, I can understand the heads would be larger but it would do more justice for a car like that!

Foot brake and pre-loaded the converter up to about 2400 rpms.

am i right in assuming this isn't a stock marauder?
daASIANgorilla 1 year ago
Mauraders arent much faster than crown vis, for the extra 50hp they claim to have.
Amirnake 1 year ago
@Amirnake
They are so under tuned from factory, that is the biggest problem. The Marauder project manager originally wanted the car to be tuned more and have 4.10 gears from factory but FMC bean counters said no. A bone stock Marauder usually dynos out around 235-242rwhp and 247-255rwtq.

he started out in second cause it starts out in second when you have the o/d off and have it in drive...it would of been alot faster if he would have started out in first.
Dustin4330 1 year ago
@Dustin4330
What are you talking about? lol The car is an automatic it's ALWAYS going to start in first gear. If I had put it in Second gear then it would of just shifted from First to Second and held Second and not shift into Third gear.
ctrlraven 1 year ago 8
@ctrlraven Not nitpicking, while the guy who said you started out in second because you were in "OD" does not understand what OD and D actually stand for.
On the other hand, there are automatics that start in second when you put them in "2". The 4R70W used to do that in some cars, like the Thunderbird for example.
iceguy2003 1 year ago
@ctrlraven Not in a Ford. Place it in second, and it starts and stays in second until you shift out. Fords have had second gear start in their automatics since the Ford-O-Matic era.
thekidrocks72 1 year ago
@ctrlraven nuh uh u were in second LMAO
daASIANgorilla 1 year ago
@ctrlraven
Thunderchicken1997 1 year ago
@Dustin4330 Doesn't make any sense when the overdrive button was designed for a higher gear ratio. This isn't a Benz in comfort mode. You need to first understand what Overdrive means.
OCSwimmerBoi 1 year ago
lol, got enough warning lights goin on there?
chris24mil 1 year ago
I wonder why everybody thinks turning the O/D off makes it faster? At full throttle for one, the computer will not shift to OD until it is redlined in 3rd. Drives me nuts to see people doing that.
Carpoof1 1 year ago
@Carpoof1
Going WOT with the O/D engage can wear down the O/D band eventually since it is the weakest part of the transmission. It's force of habit for me to turn off the traction control and O/D and engage the O/D once I've gotten to 65 mph cruising speed or faster on the highway.
ctrlraven 1 year ago
@ctrlraven OK, I guess that makes a bit more sense. Although I didn't think the overdrive band would engage until it shifts into 4th which at WOT would be around 120+
Carpoof1 1 year ago
@Carpoof1
Well I originally I had thought about going that fast but it was the first time I had the drag radials on so I wasn't sure about them just yet so I had decided to just take it to 90 instead of burring the needle.
ctrlraven 1 year ago
@Carpoof1 disables the lockup in lots of transmissions 4r70/75w's have a tendency to develop a nasty shudder if you leave it on all the time and drive it hard.

whyd urp rpm bogg down when u shufted
it was at 4500 after the gear hit then it sits for a sec drops down a few hundred rpm then shots back up nd starts speeding up again
o yea nice ass car i would love one of these or a cop vic haha
papamojo69 1 year ago
@papamojo69
Thanks! Read through the comments, already explained why it does it. The Marauder and a CVPI (Cop Vic) are two totally different cars, much better off with going with a Marauder since the performance level already starts higher than a CVPI unless you have a bunch of money to throw at the CVPI just to get it up to the Marauder level.
ctrlraven 1 year ago
@papamojo69 That would be the T/C locking. Must have been added in the tune as most fords don't lock until 3rd gear.

shanegalang2 1 year ago 12
Why is the high temp light on? At least i think it is...the light on the left hand side? Your temp guage looks fine though. Is it because of the tune?
seadooman7444 1 year ago
From Left to Right.
Air Susp (rear air leveling suspension was turned off), OverDrive Off (of course), ABS and then Brake (ABS and Brake are on because the computer is not seeing a 3% height difference in the rear between front and rear for the traction control to function properly. The corrected tune fixed that so no unwanted or unneeded lights are on.
ctrlraven 1 year ago
ya uhuh i know why... its that one check ball in the secondary upper left middle quadrant in valve body that sticks and make it shift like that... :p
.... ya add a bottle of shudder-b-gone to ur tranny fluid it will fix everything perfectly instantly

TC lock and unlock issues?
quickvic30 2 years ago
2003 Marauder transmission parameters are very slightly different from the 2004 model. My tuner copied his transmission parameters to my tune and his car was an 03 and forgot mine was an 04. Issue was fixed the next day with a new updated tune with 2004 transmission parameters.

sounded almost like a little tranny slip there, unless it really has a 3500 stall and dropped a tad bit below the 3500. Still not a chevrolet
jakeluvsmel 2 years ago
why did the rpms drop a little in between 55-60?
NGFennec 2 years ago
The custom tune I had was a trial and error setup up cause I was running a 3500 high stall converter with 3.55 gears. Trans programing was for a 2003 Marauder and mine is an 04, the drop in the rpms was the converter locking up and then unlocking. Running a corrected 04 trans tune now and the converter only locks up when I am in Overdrive.
ctrlraven 2 years ago
@NGFennec the transmission shfited up into the next gear when it hit redline so that it could keep accelerating.
ChannelAmsterdam 2 years ago
It wasn't a gear shift. It was a very small hesitation with the rpms, not a significant drop. Listen closely and you might hear it, people say I have good hearing and I can barely notice it!
NGFennec 2 years ago
@NGFennec Almost like it leaned out for a second.
TechMaven 2 years ago
Correct it was not a gear change, the hesitation is the converter trying to lock up and unlock so quick per the trans tune which had 2003 programing and mine is a 2004, that's the "hiccup" difference as we call it because 2003 has a 4R70W trans and 2004 has a 4R75W trans.
ctrlraven 2 years ago
You weren't the only one to notice it, I heard to and wrote it off to computer issue.
