At 1:33 I shit my pants, and then just a minute and 20 seconds later it happened again because I was soo blown away. Glad to see there are many younger generation fans like myself that appreciate true music as well
@Markcip1 I agree, dude. Imperfection is beauty, it's what defines us as humans. All the computer generated stuff sounds fake because it's all perfect and whatnot.
All the World's a Stage is still my favorite Rush live album, one of the best live albums of the entire decade, for that matter. I'm glad that they've pretty much ditched the wimpy 80s sound (what a musical wasteland that decade was, if I never hear the gated reverb snare drum sound again, I will be eternally grateful, sounds like a damned bicycle pump!) and returned to being one of the best hard rock power trios ever!
Wow what memories. This was released right before my 13th birthday. Me and a couple friends were putting insulation up in his dads' garage and one of the guys brought this out and popped in the 8 TRACK lol !! AWESOME SHIT !!!
Wow! Thanks so much for the amazing clip! 2112 is an album that is so close to my heart growing up (im 46) that evry note is drilled into my skull like a tattoo. Amazing what the tree of them could do. Geddys vocals were truly a force and freak of nature. Long live the planets of the solar federation!
Just litstened to this for the 1 millionth time, it still blows me away. Before they assumed controlled, Peart was crushing it, but so was Alex. Could be the greatest simultaneous guitar solo, drum solo ever ? There are better guitar solos out there even by alex and also drum solos by peart, but dont think I have ever heard 2 going on simultaneous that were that good by any band.
I was 13 when this was filmed. Had I seen this concert at 13, my life might have well-been different. As it was, I did not hear of Rush until I was 17. Those four years in a kid's life are pretty impressionable. Wonder what could have been?
Finally a video where they play the whole song (most of it, except part 3, but i am pretty sure they played it live, the guy only couldn't find the rest of it) live
that song is amazing , and geddy's vocals are unbelievable ! well when i heard that album for the first time, and seen that they were playing caress of steel i started to think , did they ever play the fountain of lamneth or neromancer live?
I was introduced to Rush in 1976. My older cousin had a 8 track of 2112. He played it all the time. He was older (18). I was 13. He had a car and a girlfriend. I had nothing. I saved up some money from my summer job that summer and bought a copy of 2112. The first album I ever bought.
@summer999ppp I'm 14, and I know every lyric, cover to cover from RUSH to Moving Pictures, even caress of steel. After that, geddy went nuts with the keyboard, and I couldn't quite get into them, I mean, you can give some cred to signals, what with subdivisions and all... but that's just my opinion. I don't think I could make it through a single day without this song. On one half, I can totally agree with you, I'm the only grade 9 in my school who likes RUSH. But at that, I fucking love them.
@theultimateultimatum: You're the man bro'! Welcome to the club. I've been listening to Rush for 30 years and still can't get enough. It seems to me that you're gonna be in this club for a LONG TIME!!!
@RogueReplicant Thanks man! Rush IS the best there is, was, and will ever be. This summer I worked and saved up money just so I could go see them as many times as possible when they tour Clockwork Angles. I am confident that there is no day I will stop being crazy about Rush. Long live Rush!
And remember, the crowd noise the mics are picking up isn't the way they do it today. The crowd is barely even miced. In fact, I bet the crowd noise you hear here is all from the stage mics. That tells you how on fire that house must have been.
@theultimateultimatum Cool, Im 15 And love Rush and know most tabs, lyrics, and variations (Live) on both of those from Rush to Snakes and Arrows. I don't go bragging about it on Youtube. That's the first time I have ever said that on Youtube. I'm tired of annoying, credit-seeking, fanboys like you looking for approval on the internet! No one cares that youre the only grade 9 that likes Rush. That's cool but you don't need to fish for compliments and tell everyone.
@Spirit0fRadi0 I don't go trolling around on videos, commenting my story on everyone like the person you're describing. I replied to a comment, of which said "Glad I am not a kid now since music has transformed into c-rap. How can they be so clueless!"
I was simply letting him know that there were plenty of kids who love Rush just as much as the fans from the beginning. I mean I understand what you're trying to say, there's a comment like mine on nearly every video, but this isn't how it looks.
@theultimateultimatum Now you know how I felt when I was your age and Led Zeppelin was still together. I can still tell you what I was doing the first time I listened to Moving Pictures.
@theultimateultimatum Im 14 now, and im just getting into rush D: But im trying to learn their songs on drums. This is probably my favourite song out of all of them. Were both in the same boat here (even though you posted 4 months ago), im the only one in my school, not just grade 9, that likes Rush, or have even HEARD of Rush.
@theultimateultimatum Everyone came screaming out of their mothers twat liking Rush so drop the I'm 14 and everyone in my school listens to shit comments they're worse than "xxx ppl didnt like whatever the fuck." Ppl in the 80's had a choice too - Rush or Oingo Boingo. Now it's Rush or Lady GaGa. Nothing has changed.
@ServiceInstaller Haha buddy, I wasn't trying to make a point, take some time and read down the comments, there's been tonnes of comments like your's that I've had to reply to saying "I had no intention of trying to prove a point, I was simply letting @summer999ppp know that there were still Rush faithfuls." Never said everyone in my school listens to shit, just not many Rush-lovers. Plenty of Classic Rock still goes around, sorry for any misunderstanding.
@ServiceInstaller Your comment further proves that only truly great bands sustain the passage of time. One doesn't necessarily have to love RUSH or be a fanboy, but if one hates RUSH, there's something wrong with him.
@theultimateultimatum Give their albums after Signals a chance. It's there that you'll find some of Neil's greatest drumming and lyrics, some of Geddy's greatest singing and bass and some of Alex's greatest guitar parts and solos. Trust me. Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire...all BRILLIANT albums. Just give them a second chance. :)
That post was 4 months ago, in that time I've had une petite change of heart, :). I'm still not crazy on Power Windows, or Signals (Other than New World man and Subdivisions), but I like Presto, Counterparts, Test for Echo, Roll the Bones, etc... and Grace Under Pressure. Aha I just wish I could've said that 4 months ago.
@theultimateultimatum hey man i'm 13 and i listen to pink floyd blue oyster cult rush the rolling stones jimi hendrix david bowie and all the good shit and i know every song off of the dark side of the moon speak to me/breath, on the run, time, the great gig in the sky, money, us and them, any colour u like, brain damage, and eclipse and my favorite song by rush is either this one or the spirit of radio off of permanent wavees (1980), or anthem off of fly by night (1975)
@theultimateultimatum I'm in 11th grade now, but I've loved Rush since the 7th. I know what you mean about being the only one who likes them in you're grade, only me and a few friends do at my school. But, also, you should give the later albums another chance. Hold Your Fire is really good, not the same, but really good nonetheless. And then Counterparts on is back in the same style :)
@rockerfromhell32 Yeah man, in the five months since I posted the comment I've come to love their albums post Presto. I'm still not nuts about Signals to Hold Your Fire, but I like Presto, Roll The Bones, Counterparts, Test for Echo, etc... :)
@theultimateultimatum Well, that's understandable. I wasn't all too sure about them either at first, and I can definitely see why some people don't like them. And I really like everything Presto and on, and seeing a lot of those songs live when I saw them for the first time in June was amazing :D
@slimjimm8 Yep. Beginning of Part III is missing from the first video and Part V is missing from this one. I think the thing to bear in my mind is just how much of 2112 they DID perform here rather than didn't! Every time they've done this song live they never play beyond Part II, and they do it a whole step down - I assume for Geddy's tiring vocals - which is something I don't like. This is the most complete live version of 2112 I think they've ever done and it definitely deserves recognition.
@Tulase They are much slower, I'd imagine it was to avoid sapping energy from the gig. They did play the entire thing on the Test for Echo tour however, as seen on Different Stages.
People talk about Geddy wailing like Robert Plant but I'd like someone to find me a live clip of Plant hitting all the notes that he recorded in the studio. Geddy went beyond what he did in the studio. Absolutely killer vocals.
@chrisw2546 plant had some amazing live moments and i love him as singer, but hes extremely different from geddy...in zeppelins early stuff plant is fucking incredible! but geddy lee is unbelievable....I have the full discography of both bands btw ;)
@DavidRourke15 same. he is an awesome awesome bassist but for me he used to sing like the guys of old, like Robert Plant, very wailing sometimes, but like you say sometimes he hits the notes like 2:56 and you're like wow. his voice is definitely different now though.
best band ever, i cant think of a band better than this for me really. brilliant guitarist, brilliant bassist, brilliant drumer, some of the best lyrics recorded by man. how they arent crazily mainstream is weird
Possibly the greatest rock song of all time, the imagination, the musicianship, the brilliant musical interpretation of the concept..and in this video the band are on fire, what a performance..this video is a treasure
To say the band is on fire is a massive understatement...and what playing, what music, what lyrics, what imagination...can you imagine walking into your local music venue and seeing this...you would be blown away!
i don't know whats more epic in 2112. Alex's solos and riffs, or Geddy slapping da bass and hitting those high notes or just Neil beating the crap of those drums through the whole song.
Awesome! I've been to the old Capital Theater in Passaic NJ later in 1987; it's about 15 minutes from where I live. Wish I was there, but still a young one then and did not know Rush yet!
@gashloog actually....that is very good pick of RUSH'S best songs(just a few more).....but.........you forgot BY- TOR......and the whole fucking LIVE ALBUM .
you are a rush fan.....i can tell..........i'm getting old....i can tell
AS 2112 is my favorite song of all time ......has been for over 35 years ...This is the most raw and old footage i have seen of 2112. its great..... i could go on about rush, but i.'m gonna watch .....
I remember (barely) when I was a teen in the 70's, getting high and listening to the live version of this song from All The World's a Stage. Those were the days!
@myredstratocaster thats because their all fake rush fans they only know overture/temples because thats all they play on the radio so they think thats the whole song. The views for this are the people that love the entire song and know Discovery-soliloquy and get blown away by the finale. The entire son is amazing but Soliloquy/Finale is the heaviest part and the most musicale part of it. Hope that answers ur ? haha

I cant believe Alex is tuning his guitar in the middle of a guitar solo and can pull it off! Fucking incredible.

Part II is definitely more rare. Looks like Geddy yawns at about 0:40 or so... I know that feeling. Rockin' ain't easy...

People talk about Geddy wailing like Robert Plant but I'd like someone to find me a live clip of Plant hitting all the notes that he recorded in the studio. Geddy went beyond what he did in the studio. Absolutely killer vocals.
chrisw2546 10 months ago 13
@chrisw2546 plant had some amazing live moments and i love him as singer, but hes extremely different from geddy...in zeppelins early stuff plant is fucking incredible! but geddy lee is unbelievable....I have the full discography of both bands btw ;)
weischamp 6 months ago
@DavidRourke15 same. he is an awesome awesome bassist but for me he used to sing like the guys of old, like Robert Plant, very wailing sometimes, but like you say sometimes he hits the notes like 2:56 and you're like wow. his voice is definitely different now though.

Possibly the greatest rock song of all time, the imagination, the musicianship, the brilliant musical interpretation of the concept..and in this video the band are on fire, what a performance..this video is a treasure

Too bad they only play Overture and Temple of Syrinx live lately. I saw them last year and I'm seeing them again this year for my graduation present.

i don't know whats more epic in 2112. Alex's solos and riffs, or Geddy slapping da bass and hitting those high notes or just Neil beating the crap of those drums through the whole song.
this band is just perfect man.....

Awesome! I've been to the old Capital Theater in Passaic NJ later in 1987; it's about 15 minutes from where I live. Wish I was there, but still a young one then and did not know Rush yet!

I remember (barely) when I was a teen in the 70's, getting high and listening to the live version of this song from All The World's a Stage. Those were the days!
Disclaimer: I don't advocate drug use.

Ohh Soliloquy sounds so good! Alex's guitar sounds a tad off tune judging by him reaching to the neck a couple times to tune it up.
SirGod85 1 year ago
It is so wierd, this part only has about 1/4 of the views that part one has. In my opinion, part 2 is far superior.
myredstratocaster 1 year ago 56
@myredstratocaster I think the guitar is superior in the second part, but I prefer the lyrics in the first part.
NerdWerld 1 year ago 2
@myredstratocaster Part 2 of this song from Discovery on is the best music i have ever heard still to this day. "agreed"
yah420 1 year ago
@myredstratocaster thats because their all fake rush fans they only know overture/temples because thats all they play on the radio so they think thats the whole song. The views for this are the people that love the entire song and know Discovery-soliloquy and get blown away by the finale. The entire son is amazing but Soliloquy/Finale is the heaviest part and the most musicale part of it. Hope that answers ur ? haha
2ru11sh2 11 months ago
@myredstratocaster It's because you get to hear Geddy scream "We are the priests of the temples of Syrinx!" on that one!
