  • "In New Yor"

  • RIP Howard Reig

  • He's going to sound like Ned Gerblansky on South Park pretty soon when he gets his new voice box

  • The real problem is that Douglas is so old now that his once commanding and recognizable voice sounds worn and aged. This might've worked maybe 15 years ago.

  • Why is it the weekend edition of NBC Nightly News has a better announcer than the weeknight show? I don't understand why they don't have Les Marshak intro the M-F shows, too.

  • Michael Douglas sounds positively wimpy compared to Howard Reig.

  • Historic, someone said. Yeah, like putting Katie Couric on to front The CBS Evening News was historic. Where'd that clip of the Nov 20 2006 newscast where Katie was too inept to fill the time so the music played and played while that dingbat just stood there?

  • I LOVE it!!

  • CHARLTON HESTON! Then NBC wouldn't be criticized for being 'liberal'.

  • Anyone who's done ANY announcing knows that NEWS is NOT pronounced NOOZ. The 'dumbing' of American broadcasting.

  • I know. Still it is not as bad a Brian saying BOADCAST.

  • @niceone213

anyone who has done any reading, you mean.

  • If they wanted to replace Mr Reig with a celebrity, that's their business, but Michael Douglas does a horrendous job. George Clooney does a great job for Budweiser or Gene Hackman for Lowes Home Centers.

Douglas is capable of doing better. Did they use one of his practice reads by mistake? This decision is right up there with "New Coke" from the 1980s. Awful! Bring back Mr Reig! PLEASE!! It's never too late to admit you've made a mistake.

  • I'm sorry, but the new announcer doesn't sound nearly as good as the previous one. The opening used to sound powerful.

  • Ugh..Its horrible

Morgan Freeman would of been awesome!

  • @jarey84 funny how you suggested him, considering he now does the open for CBS Evening News

  • still they can't beat the CBS Evening News introduction courtesy of the legendary Walter Cronkite... but this is good too!

  • morgan freeman would have been great!

  • I thought that was an intern filling in the for main announcer. Howard Reig's voice is more distinguished and commanding. Michael Douglas sounds like he's acting in one of his movies.

  • Historic! Thanks so much. I missed it.

Love Michael Douglas, but he needs to work on his cadence.

  • "from MBC news World headquarters in New Your this. Is NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams."

he cant even pronounce New York correctly. Where's the other guy who did the voiceovers?

  • Retired, sadly.

  • And the other past Voices of NBC News - Bill Hanrahan, Bill McCord and Fred Facey - are all dead.

  • Sounds like Michael Douglas. COOL!
