The real problem is that Douglas is so old now that his once commanding and recognizable voice sounds worn and aged. This might've worked maybe 15 years ago.
Why is it the weekend edition of NBC Nightly News has a better announcer than the weeknight show? I don't understand why they don't have Les Marshak intro the M-F shows, too.
Historic, someone said. Yeah, like putting Katie Couric on to front The CBS Evening News was historic. Where'd that clip of the Nov 20 2006 newscast where Katie was too inept to fill the time so the music played and played while that dingbat just stood there?
If they wanted to replace Mr Reig with a celebrity, that's their business, but Michael Douglas does a horrendous job. George Clooney does a great job for Budweiser or Gene Hackman for Lowes Home Centers.
Douglas is capable of doing better. Did they use one of his practice reads by mistake? This decision is right up there with "New Coke" from the 1980s. Awful! Bring back Mr Reig! PLEASE!! It's never too late to admit you've made a mistake.
I thought that was an intern filling in the for main announcer. Howard Reig's voice is more distinguished and commanding. Michael Douglas sounds like he's acting in one of his movies.

He's going to sound like Ned Gerblansky on South Park pretty soon when he gets his new voice box

CHARLTON HESTON! Then NBC wouldn't be criticized for being 'liberal'.

Anyone who's done ANY announcing knows that NEWS is NOT pronounced NOOZ. The 'dumbing' of American broadcasting.

I'm sorry, but the new announcer doesn't sound nearly as good as the previous one. The opening used to sound powerful.
