If true, we need to think about whether crop and livestock raising practices are out of sync with the ecosystem. Isn't there a better way to get food than exterminating millions of animals, pumping in tons of fertilizers and pesticides, ruining topsoil and the water supply, etc? Actually, those do look like ground squirrels and not prairie dogs. Prairie dogs are more lightly colored, and have very short tails. They don't hop around like the animals in that video they kind of trumble and run along.

What yardage were you shooting at? Anything 100 yds with a properly sighted rifle, with the V-MAX's should have been on-shot, one-kill. There were some impressive hits but a lot of twitching going on too from miss-hits. The .17 HMR can be a very deadly weapon, but it's like the "sniper" of rimfires for small game. The rifle is NOT the sniper, but the person pulling the trigger is... in other words, if you're not a good shot, don't even try!

I happen to favor my 1940's Remington .22 LR Pump-Action rifle with an old 2X or 4X scope. I can fit 17 .22 LR's in the magazine tube and fire them very quickly. It naturally works best from standing or crouching. The gun probably weighs 10-12 pounds, so it's really stable.
