I can understand what this woman is going through. I have mild autism which gave me a intense memory and like here, I still remember all of the bad things. It's hard for me to get it out of my head and when I mention this to people they deny it. My dad even accused me for having false memory syndrome. Its a gift and a curse.
Seriously, if this were controlled, it would be a wonderful gift. Remembering hard things would be very difficult though. :( I cried when I learned her husband died...
ps- diane sawyer has been stunning her whole entire life. I mean WOW. I wanna know her secrets.
her biography said that she was an average student in school.. She only remembers days, moments, dates, episodes on tv, songs. It's pretty cool in way.. but I can see where it could be really hard.
i would be Einstein of 21st century if i had this brain ,, and she really needs to move on there are still many things happened to our lives that we cant forget but still move on
I see how being born with that could be harmful but if I were given a choice, I would take it right now. A memory like that isn't for people with such cognizant emotions, that was meant for an introvert or someone who can comfortably distance themselves from people and use the gift to every benefit. I would become a walking circus, I would read every great philosophy and science book ever written and dedicate myself to becoming immortal.
is that mean she never lost her phone or bag what about if someone Steal for her ahhhhh how could she remember that !!!!!!!is that mean she get full marks on schoool
I'd hate to have that. I have a very very very good long-term memory ,I can remember things from when I was very young and even specifics from a couple of years ago, but not as bad as her. :(
But she had to have watched all that tv to have remembered it. If I could remember everything I watched, it wouldn't be what people would ask about like American Idol finales, cause I don't watch that shit.
i mean... it might suck to remember the sad memories.. but you would be super smart wouldn't you? if you would remember everything you read of watch/.. she could be professor she could learn everything..
@yumagetbullet Not really. She might be able to remember everything, but it doesn't mean she will actually know what she read or studied. There is more to learning than just remembering.
I don't really know if i believe this . I kind of doubt that this is how memories are stored. I just don't think our brain would record our life this systematically. This seems cheesy to me. I'm pretty sure If this were "real" more videos of Jill Price would be on the internet.
Jill you have the ability to change the world of psychology as we know it. It is only with the understanding of incredible anomalies at we can gain a better understanding in helping others with debilitating disorders of the mind
wow, if bad things happen, then just as many good things happens. she needs to focus on the good things, just as she does as the bad things. so her mom called her fat 500 times in her life time, im sure she has told her she is beautiful, or w.e thousands of times...so she chooses to remember the bad things...i would give anything for her memory
@TheIncrediblSuperSam Um, no. How do you know that her mother gave her as many compliments as she insulted her? You don't.
Not everyone leads a happy life with good memories that out-weigh the bad. Think of the worst day of your life, and imagine if, just by thinking about it, you remembered every painful detail of the event and you could never get over it. She's re-living every shitty part of her life. Your comment is extremely selfish.
@jsmyrski whatever man, she is obviously wasting her effort, focus and brilliant mind on the wrong things...she is equipped with a tool to really do something for humanity...but she never will, because he mom called her fat
Actually, we’re led to believe that Jill has had a normal life... in the sense that bad and good things have happened to her.
Why does she find her condition so difficult to live with? Surely she has vivid memories of her husband’s death and vivid memories of their marriage. Does she focus on the bad, as SuperSam suggests? Or is the experience of reliving the past painful in itself?
Is it possible to have the capacity to remember nearly everything and to be happy? SuperSam thinks so
@usernamesareballs And SuperSam would have to be wrong. This woman did not choose to have an unlimited long-term memory, nor did she choose to develop it. She's allowed to be unhappy if she wants to without people like SuperSam and other with limited long-term memory passing judgment.
I really don't understand what's so difficult about this concept. Let the woman cope with her memory the way she wants to.
I'm mostly disgusted by all these comments proclaiming how this woman SHOULD feel based on how they THINK they'd feel if they themself possessed this unimaginable trait.
That's understandable. I'm not making or supporting any comments about how Jill should feel.
At the same time, it's possible that Jill has a remarkable memory and some kind of depressive disorder. The question I read SuperSam to be suggesting, and the question I find interesting, remains:
Can someone have a remarkable memory and live a fulfilling life?
Or in Spiderman terms:
Is that kind of memory necessarily a curse, or can it also be a gift?
Okay, I don't think many people understand. Jill can remember ANYTHING. You know the Isaac Newton quote? On the shoulders of giants? Well, by reading multiple textbooks, she has stood on every shoulder. She would be an expert on EVERYTHING. Imagine the greatest inventor, physicist, programmer, psychologist, mathematician, scientist, etc. EVER. That would be her. She has all the information. And will be able to conjure it for her use at ANY TIME. Someone get this woman to a college. Please.
@TripleDimensional memory does not equate to critical reasoning skills; yes, she could be useful as a pharmacist or an occupation based solely on memory recall, but it takes a lot more than fact-finding to be a genius.
Yes. This is quite true. However, we all know from high school that even those you thought were "stupid" before could still succeed. Through hard work. They studied. She can look at a page and think back to it for reference later.
I have a good memory from a time when I was a baby but that is only like a segment I know this is something you guys won't believe but I just want to share it with you
To remember your bad things I fell is a gift, you will always remember the out come and have the past to create your future the way you want, she is wasting this talent.
But remembering and forgiving are separate ideas! I remember a lot of bad things people have done to me 20+ years ago, in full HD memory. But doesn't mean that I'm going to bask in the pain of the moment forever! Clearly, this lady has an astounding brain, but I just think that she also overdramatizes to add to her book sales.
We might see her memory as a gift; but I understand how it is a curse for her. Imagine remembering all the bad things people have ever said or done to you, it's like constantly keeping a score and never being able to forgive people. If someone does a good thing to you, you still just remember the bad thing they did, and focus on that instead. I think a lot of people here are being quite harsh, and not considering how difficult this actually must be for her.
I can remember most of my life. I can't claim to remember everything. It is like movies playing all the time, all around me, with noise. Living in the moment is an effort. Family members who don't remember the events claim that I am making things up.
So in my class we looked at this lady and our teacher explained to us that she in fact could remember dates and what had happened that day. She cannot, however, recall specifici details. She really can remember a lot but not specifics (what people were wearing on the show, carry pi to the 120 decimal or stuff like that). Her memory is truly amazing though!
Why doesn't she go read an entire encyclopedia or a dictionary? She could probably make hundreds of thousands of dollars and maybe even millions with this ability.
she's fucking wasting her gifted ability. seriously she could stop being sad about the past and do something awesome with her life. if i had her gift i would be trying to learn everything the world has to offer and make a name for myself.
@Fobanicco Listen to what she says jerk, she says it's horrible! That she is constant living the past, I wouldn't want that and I do not believe you understand what is going on there..
@Fobanicco That's likely easier said than done. Remember, she is still a human so she's bound to have experienced painful events and humiliation she can't forget. Do you know how it feels to have your mind racing? It's crippling. You can't clear your head and focus on a task. She says her memories are racing, so it must take a hell of a lot of control to focus. Her amazing recall is effectively a double-edged sword.
If she really could remember everything, then wouldn't she have used it to learn every foreign language with ease, read an encyclopedia once and remember it all, and become the most intelligent, knowledgeable person in the world?
HOLY CRAP MAN! god...she's a fucking prodigy...someone teachers her the basics of piano, she writes her own rhapsody...someone shows how to paint a person, she redesigns the last supper.....she listens to a song and immediately knows the lyrics! SHIZEN HOUSEN!
With an amazing memory and she is only an office administrator? What a colossal waste of a talent. Clearly she has way too much time on her hands because she obsesses about the past and her weight and bullshit like that. She needs to go to grad school and start a new life, study something new to occupy her time and mind and become useful to humanity with her talents.
How about medical school where you are not allowed to forget? She will kill the boards for sure!
If she put time and effort into studying new drugs, or quantum mechanics... but you know what they say, women are emotional thinkers so it's prolly a lot harder for her than it would be for Dr. Spencer Reid...
Lol her mom wouldn't have believed it if she said that she forgot to do her homework. I would be screwed if I was like that. It is my favorite excuse.
She may always remember the event that caused pain, but she IS able to come to terms and lessen the emotional toll.
Just because I remember the day my grandmother died doesn't mean I let it hold me down.
I cant comprehend what its like to remember everything as she does, but the principal is still the same. You don't need to forget to move on with life.
She has a gift, and she is not embracing it. She thinks it's a curse, and all these damn doctors are calling it a disorder. She needs to learn how to control it, and not let IT control her. Kinda like X-men shit. It's really a superpower.
@moua64 you've never been in her situation, how would you know it's so easy to control it? she is using it for jobs, and taking on fame from it, that may be enough for her. like they say in the video she has to live pain and anger from years ago constantly, imagine that, it can't be easy. don't just assume you can imagine it, your brain physically won't let you so don't pretend you can imagine it and say she's wasting it.
@moua64 You don't understand it is a curse to remember. I like her can remember every bloody thing that has ever happened to me down to the minute details of what the weather was like and what I was wearing that day...when bad things happen there is no luxury in forgetting or having the memory fade. They don't fade...they come back in the night and haunt me...sometimes I even wonder if death is better than having the past torture me like this. You have no idea the pain it causes
I have the same problem. This may be linked to premature birth, as these individuals attempt to compensate learning difficulties or different ways of learning with extraordinary memory (of both long and short term).
But then, this could also mean the next stage in human evolution. We (three) just happen to possess the ability.
@firestar124 you should read the book, it would change that opinion. its really good, "The Woman Who Can't Forget" by Jill Price With Bart Davis. she went through a whole lotta things in her life.
Jill Price & Clive Wearing are two excellent examples of how damaging & unhealthy "extremes" can be. And in practically every arena I can think of at the moment. I truly wish both the best.
Fucking good for exams!

She will kill the boards for sure!
dokkiri94 5 months ago 37
@dokkiri94 This was on "House" a medical show. Just because you can remember something doesn't mean you can understand it.

I would hate this. Its great to forget things that agitate you...

If she put time and effort into studying new drugs, or quantum mechanics... but you know what they say, women are emotional thinkers so it's prolly a lot harder for her than it would be for Dr. Spencer Reid...

It's really a superpower.
moua64 7 months ago 41
@moua64 You're an idiot.
Spitfirebird 3 months ago
@moua64 you've never been in her situation, how would you know it's so easy to control it? she is using it for jobs, and taking on fame from it, that may be enough for her. like they say in the video she has to live pain and anger from years ago constantly, imagine that, it can't be easy. don't just assume you can imagine it, your brain physically won't let you so don't pretend you can imagine it and say she's wasting it.
TheLittleMcHugh 3 months ago
@moua64 You don't understand it is a curse to remember. I like her can remember every bloody thing that has ever happened to me down to the minute details of what the weather was like and what I was wearing that day...when bad things happen there is no luxury in forgetting or having the memory fade. They don't fade...they come back in the night and haunt me...sometimes I even wonder if death is better than having the past torture me like this. You have no idea the pain it causes
FisherCynge 3 months ago
@FisherCynge
I have the same problem. This may be linked to premature birth, as these individuals attempt to compensate learning difficulties or different ways of learning with extraordinary memory (of both long and short term).
But then, this could also mean the next stage in human evolution. We (three) just happen to possess the ability.

y dont she jus get a lobotomie ?
ryanthomasmccallum 8 months ago
@ryanthomasmccallum Because a lobotomy serves to detatch the frontal lobe from the rest of the brain and I doubt that affects memory whatsoever.
Also, learn to spell.

too smart to forget anything, too stupid to live a healthy lifestyle. she has a tendency to hoard memories as well as copious amounts of calories.

Jill Price & Clive Wearing are two excellent examples of how damaging & unhealthy "extremes" can be. And in practically every arena I can think of at the moment. I truly wish both the best.
