thanks mam u r so inspiring in cooking

  • Just made my first batch... wow, very tasty. I will say though, the black salt is very noticeable so if you do not like its flavor, do not use it! It almost tastes like hard boiled egg yolk, but I tell you, it is not a bad flavor and I really appreciate the time you took to do this video as I am hosting my first Indian food night tomorrow!!! We will be having this with samosas :) Thanks again- Delicious!!!!! MMMmMmmMmM

  • FYI: My husband and I just tried Black Salt Powder for the first time and I would describe it as tasting like "powdered hard boiled eggs." It was unexpected but not bad.

  • can i use chat masala instead of black salt? and can ginger paste be a substitute of ginger powder?

  • chatni is too good ... and lots of love to mansi she is adorable

  • Can I roast cumin seed powder at home? Not cumin seed but the powder? Unable to find roasted cumin seed powder :( Plz do reply.Thank you God Bless

  • it is better not to roast the powder you might burn it . try and find seeds and roast them lightly , you will be surprised many stores (not indian) are now storing cumin seeds . good luck

  • Manjula- Can you substitute jaggery for part or all of the white sugar you are using. Half and half maybe?

  • Yes you can use jaggery all or part of it

  • hi nice recepie, want to try soon but i have some sweet tamarind in home how to use it instead of tamarind concentrate

  • Manjula can't you use regular cumin power and dry roast it in a pan for the roasted cumin power...Thank you

  • when you roast whole cumin seed it has different smell and flavor.

  • @Manjulaskitchen I usually come across recipes where Saunf (fennel) is used.... Any specific reason why you didn't use it?

  • Thank you very much for these wonderful recipes. We are using them cook for Sri Krishna at his temple in Los Angeles.

  • hello aunty! dont we need to boil the mixture to get the right taste??

  • no I do not boil it because sugar changes the texture

  • Oh, what a surprise to see your adorable granddaughter!

  • @Vittoria10538 Mansi is vry sweet,I saw her first time, may God bless her.

  • Thank u very much Manjula mam

  • Thanks you Manjula ji for the recipe.

To make tamrind paste, I put the saoked tamrind in microwave for 1 min and then in food processor and then strain it. there is less wastage.

  • Thank you, good suggestion

  • i like this chutney very much.can u post recepie for making dabeli pav

  • namaste manjula! what if i dont have roasted cumin seeds, can i just put cumin powder? waiting for your response. thanks.

  • Roasted cumin enhance the flavor of chutney

  • can you give me any idea for substitute to roasted cumin?

  • there is no substitute for roasted cumin, you can do without it but this does provides lot of flavor to chutney

  • I love Imli Chutney! Thank you for posting the recipe. I have never made it where you take the tamarind pulp back out. Instead, it was made with tamarind paste concentrate. The paste dissolves in boiling water; but otherwise, it is very similar. Thank you again!

  • how to you make palari you know the stuff you dip in the chutney

  • can you please tell me how to make dry milk barfie

  • Could I use fresh grated ginger or is it best that I use powdered ginger?

  • It is best to use dry ginger powder

  • Thank you for your instructions, I am enjoying your videos. I made a chana masala tonight, and aloo gobi yesterday and my wife loved them both. Thank you again

  • That looks really yummy but what is tamarind exactly? It looks like dried apricots...

  • Its a fruit quite similar to dates but very sour

  • Thats nice 2 CUPS of sugar lOl i wana know what this would do to you in one go of consuming

  • Instead of using 2 Cups of sugar you can use dates. 5 dates:1 tamarind. This will make very good tamarind chutney 'without' sugar.

  • I cringed at the sight of it, too.

First of all it wont be consumed right away, it's probably worth 30-40 servings.

So much of sugar is used because tamarind is too tangy, that's the amount it will probably take to sweeten.

Second, you can use 'stevia', best sweeteneer on earth. Plant based. Safe for diabetics, kids. It's an herb. 8 times sweeter than sugar.

And of course, you can always use dates.

  • Thank you so much Manjula for your recipes and demonstrations. My husband and I LOVE Indian dishes and eat at our favorite Indian restaurants frequently. We've wanted to learn how to cook our favorite dishes but didn't know where to start. We bought a cookbook but seeing it is so much better. No one in our area offers Indian cooking classes. Thank you!

  • Hi Manjula, I loved the video and the recipe especially after Maansi's yummy comments :) Give my love to her. I so very much appreciate your very to-the-point yet detailed videos. I have made the naan bread, jalebi and the chutney so far but am planning to try all of your recipes. Keep up the good work! Love Amna.

  • hi Munjula,

Great YouTube recipes. Thank you. It would be wonderful if you put all your recipes on dvd for people to buy. One of the places you can market them is Indian grocery stores.

    Réya

  • hi there Manjula...i love your recipes...they are just great...can u please give the recipe of sweet and sour lemon?

    waiting...

    keep it up! :)

  • It looks like you are using 2 tablespoons of cumin seed, not teaspoons. Is this correct?

  • Thank you so much for sharing your recipes! I am also grateful to see how it is done and what it should look like. Your granddaughter is precious!

  • thanks Manjula ji you are doing a greatttttttttttttttt job

  • Mrs Manjula ,

If i were to substitute sugar with jaggery, what would be the proportion - thanks Maam

  • Jaggery you need to add almost 11/2 time of sugar

  • Aunty ji thanks for this great recipie im gonna make it when i am samsosa! thanks!:)

  • Wow! This is my favorite! Thanks so much for teaching how to make this... I would put it on everything if I could LOL

  • wow! that was a great chutney! we liked it!

  • I have a tamarind paste in a jar from an indian shop.....can i use that? if yes then how much?

  • you can use tamarind paste. Add the same spices little more or less will not make that much diffrent but paste dont have the same taste.

  • thankyou 4 this recipe it was soooo good. my dad loved this chutney. this tamrid chutney tastes exactly like the chutney they serve you in the indian resturants.

  • Your beautiful granddaughter makes the recipe even sweeter!! Thanks for another terrific demonstration.

  • Thank you so much. I tried this recipe with my family. They're Cuban and they had never tried Indian food but they really LOVED it. A million thanks from Miami.

  • What a cute kid! I used to buy tamarind chutney from a NY restuarant and drink it like it was a beverage it was so delicious. I am from the caribbean and we had a tamarind tree in our backyard. My grandma used to make chutneys, anchar, candies and even jam with it. I just love tamarind! Thanks for your recipe once again.

  • I was first scared when I saw the name tamarind, because I have never worked with tamarind in my recipes. But Manjula Bai took this fear out when she started to prepare tamarind for the chutney. Thank You! Nice little granddaughter!!!

  • She is so sweetttt.:) Thank You Dear manjula.YOU ARE VERY KIND sharing with us your recipe.Great sweet and sour dipping sauce.

  • Hehe what a little actress!! Thank You for sharing your recipe, I too was waiting for this one.

  • Thank you so much. Just what I was looking for.

  • But, I need to wait for months sometimes to get Tamarind in Taiwan :( and there is no substitute for it as the taste would become diferent。

    but, I love this recipie!!!

Auntiji's recipies make me feel at hom and remind me of my mom !! :)

I apologize for behaving as a kid but am helpless。

I ma a vegetarian and just crave 4 Indian vegeterain dishes!!

  • Tamarind trees are very common in South India, particularly in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Tamarind is a staple in the South Indian diet, where it is used to prepare Rasam (spicy soup),Kuzambu or Sambhar (spicy lentil soup vegetables and tamarind), a soupy preparation called pulikkuzambu popular in Tamil Nadu, Puliyodarai rice, and various types of chutneys.
