  • Anyone know what translation of the bible, or else what psalter, is this sung from? it's beautiful!

  • @slaroche9 The psalter is from The Book of Common Prayer (1662).

  • @slaroche9 It's the Miles Coverdale translation, which is now widely distributed as part of the Book of Common Prayer.

  • A great Zing. Reminds me of my hay days at the All Saints Cathedral Nairobi in the Main Choir!

  • I transcribed this for my own choir, fantastic - I especially love the pointing used here.

  • All honor and glory be to God!

  • I am just seeking holy living and not doing evil things with my body.

  • This choir is delivering me from the dark side of homosexuality.

  • @777Thinking As opposed to the dark side of heterosexuality?

  • @777Thinking Whatttt?????

  • @gusmanj14 i think he is referring to the dark rituals of some 'christian' churches...

  • @OJJVZ lol? what?

  • @sasdasfasgas nvm, its a bit too much info to fit in here and most ppl wouldn't want to hear it...

  • who composed this setting? Would love to know more...want to learn all I can about Anglican Chant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • excellence! the psalm is the Psalm of protection. Westminster has marvellously sung this psalm. :) .

  • oh!!! superbe!!!

  • Great tradition anglican hymn. Like this one. Thank you for this moment.

  • Magnificent performance of the Westminster Abbey Choir! Thanks Ikje

  • I used to love evensong when i lived in London

  • @yellowlabrador You can still love it. Support a parish/cathedral that sings evensong near you.

  • @choirboyfromhell1 The nearest would be Dublin and that's about 5 hours travel from West Cork. A good job we've got the internets.

  • @yellowlabrador What about Waterford parish? St. Fin's Barre Cathedral? That would seem likely to offer at least monthly evensongs. I agree, I'm slightly spoiled here in NE Ohio (USA), but I helped make it happen by hammering the Dean and Rector of a nearby (30 mi.) large parish church. Even if it's a quartet doing plainchant, it's better than nothing at all.

  • @choirboyfromhell1 I really wish it was so easy. I live in a very rural area, we only have a church service every 4 weeks. Only 10 % of our local population is church of Ireland. A trip to cork would involve half a days travel on the bus and no way of getting home till the next day. Our church is tiny and we're lucky to keep the numbers reasonably up. Because of the population distribution a lot of people end up marrying out and becoming catholic.

  • @yellowlabrador That's tough, and I'm sorry to hear it. Rural Ohio is also slowly shrinking, along with "dumbing down" into fundamentalism. This genre is indeed threatened, but it is beloved. I hope you can relish it on the web. Check St. John's/Cambridge, which does weekly webcasts (I can't put links on this You Tube).

I hope you can sing...at least you can keep that tradition alive in the western pennisulas.....

  • @yellowlabrador St. Fin Barre's Cathedral. Friday Evensongs at 1815 during the academic year.
