Is the kid in a tie wearing the uniform of a particular English school? It looks like the same clothing Tommy wears during "Christmas" in the Ken Russell film.
@Cillik1 You're quite right it does, but It's not sung until the last 30 secs or so by the kids! Great song by the way! I was about 8 when this came out...aah nostalgia!
fantastic song takes me back to a happier time before my bones ached.if you see a mazda mx-6 going past on the motorway with this playing please honk.ranks alongside seasons in the sun classic songs of my youth.
see this goes back to the days when predatory peados had real singing talent! No CRB checks in them days! Just kidding but seriously this is a truly enchanting song and film
this morning i heard this on the radio; it gave me memories of beach , being young , my schoolfriends, swimming together on friday; all day i was thinking what was it , what gives me nice memories without knowing the title.......i did find it here, thank you
@bananasplitsable Yes, amazing how much you pick up in music even when very young. You can hear it 20, 30 years later and you go: Hey, I know that! So I'm only 1 year older than you. :)
@bananasplitsable I thought you were born at the end of the 60s. My father reserved his disdain for flower-power and heavy metal. Until 1966-67 he was OK with the music.
@bananasplitsable Sure, they've gotten much too big and old. I'd have gone look at them in '66. One of the most boring things I've seen was Led Zeppelin in '79. True dinosaurs. After that it was Punk and Ska only. 2 quid entrance fee or less.
@bananasplitsable The sex pistols were on tour recently? Disgusting. And Pink Floyd too? What's next? Barclay James Harvest? A lot of 60s and 70s artists have at least had the decency to do a My Generation and "Die before they got old" I'm glad we never had to look at Hendrix, Moon or Ian Curtis as fat old farts. As much as Paul Weller is a hero of mine, I don't really want to go see him now. I think he should do something different: paint, write a book, breed horses, whatever.
@bananasplitsable i bet they did need the cash. No I wouldn't go to see Weller. I've seen recent vids of him on YT and I think he looks worn, the music is soso. He doesn't look sharp, needs a haircut. He was great in the 70s and 80s, but now I look a lot better than he does. James Dean would be 70+ now? Don't try to think of him old, fat, toothless, lol! I liked his acting fine in Giant. He had some talent. Like Marilyn, she died just when she would have started to spoil her legacy.
@bananasplitsable I think i have found a young new talent. Her name is Erica Roane and she's featured on my channel today. Come take a listen if you have the time. I think she's really good.
the 'die before i get old' line in my generation refers to feeling old not actual old in years, bet you walk around with earphones in doing wiered hand gestures in public.....nob
Great to find this song again! After all these years, I thought they were singing "Postman Jack!" Shoot me...have to love the irony in the lyrics when sung by teenage opera towards the end...
Who are they waving to?
