  • @TheMarrle I play it: A Chord: D U Flick U D U D Flick Open stringsU D U E chord: D U Flick U D U D Flick.. on and on. The first part D U flick could be played D flick, but i like to add a U right before the flick.

  • wow i just wasted 10 minutes on this song and i didnt even learn the riff from the beginning

  • Another thanks from Brazil, man, that is a lovely video. Like your accent btw.

I'm currently unemployed but I have checked out your website and I got pretty excited about it, I'm looking forward to donating as soon as I get a new job. Keep on with the good work!

  • Justin, I am trying to learn to sing and play this song, the paying part is easy, but when i try to play WHILE singing I can't get enough concentration on either one to do it. Do you have any suggestions on how to do this? Thanks!

  • @arhodes18 play along to the record with the guitar, then put the guitar away and sing along to the record. Do this a couple of times (like you let the song play in a loop without any breaks in between). Make sure that you know the lyrics and the chord progressions well. If you've done the above for quite some time, try both at the same time, along to the record. When you feel comfortable with it, play alone, just your voice + guitar.

  • This Justin guy is gr8. Practically I learnt my guitar lessons on line. God bless you, pal. xx Sepats

  • Thanks ! As usual a very nice job. Many thanks. Question. Your guitar appears to be a rosewood upper bout on side and possibly maple lower side. Tru? Is the back the sme? Why? sound? combo of rose wood and maple? who made it if you don't mind.

  • very good lesson:Di love this song

  • XDDD 9:16

  • is that your guitar tuner on the head of your guitar or is it a cigarette holder?

Great lesson by the way. Jacks strumming reminds of the ukulele, how he keeps chunking the strings. Thanks man... Felix

  • looks like a capo.

  • yep

  • cigarette holder LMAOOOO think its a capo bud :)

  • muy bueno hermano!, gracias desde venezuela

  • This guy knows how to learn to play... Very good Justin. I wonder you.

Esse cara sabe como ensinar alguém a tocar, meus parabéns Justin, te-admiro.

  • damn i can play this, too bad i cant sing :(

  • Hi, Thanks for subscribing to my videos. Cool guitar you have... I like how you can get to the high frets cause the body curves in. I wish I could afford a nice accoustic.

  • whoever saw my last comment. Im sorry, someone is hacking my profile and typing false claims so just ignore any comments that show any kind of arrogance. Sorry about that.

  • good for you man, maybe you should try showing it to us then. justin does an awesome job at showing us how to play it. keep your arrogance to yourself.

  • this guy is a genius.

    loveandpeace:)

  • new years resolution = playing this song.

i already got the clicking somewhat down..

  • got 2 BEEEEE the best lessons on youtube TTTTTRRRRRUUUUUSSSSTTTT.....j j.............

  • Justin presents this Jack Johnson song with clarity for all to learn; outstanding detail and that extra encouragement to help develop your listening skills!

    Bravo.

  • great lessons sir...many thanks...

  • hey i think ur an awesome teacher. i learnt it straight away. thanks heaps.

  • This is an excellent tutorial for a song I definitely want to learn. I've been wondering how to do jack's little clicky percussive strumm thing, and you teach it wonderfully. Cheers!

  • jesus christ you are fucking awesome and a really cool person

  • hey do u happen to know what kind of guitar jj plays with cuz i have always tried to see it in videos but never can tell.. thanks

  • dude this is the best explanation of playing the "click" notes without palm muting i have seen on youtube

  • Its fun to play. Seriously.

  • Thanks for laying down this track for us.

  • Excellent guitar lesson, and great singing also!

  • i tried to work out the strumming pattern, but it doesnt work and i dont know what im doing wrong. could it be a problem that my guitar is a normal acoustic concert guitar and not a western?

and it seems to me that he doesnt use the strumming pattern: down, click, down, down, click, I think he uses something else. can sb help me?

  • Just instead of doing the "click" the way that Justin does it ... Just raise your fingers a bit on the frets, and then strum, and you'll get a muted sound. It works just as well. Hope this helps :D

    Jamie

  • i always use the same way you say it, its bit of a blues style of playing haha

  • Yeah ... Both work well, and I personally like the my way better. But you know ... What ever floats your boat.

    Jamie

  • what would be the difference between playing these bar chords with normal chords?

  • the voicings !

It would still follow the right progression, but would sound different, nothing musically wrong, just wont sound quite the same as Jacks version ;)

  • O_o You're right! lol Doesnt even look like a girl.. XD N

  • Cant that clicking thing ruin your guitar?

    Seems pretty violent.

  • it's a guitar my friend, not a flower or a woman :o) give it some stick! peace

  • thanks man thats cool

  • hey What guitar are you using here mate? :]

  • justin uses mostly Maton acoustics

  • I dont know why this isn't sounding right on my guitar. I have an electric, so does that make a difference?

  • its another sound, especially when your EQ is set "wrong". theres normally no problem, but you ll need a western/accoustic guitar to get this "authentique" sound.

(im sure theres plenty of grammar faults, sry4that)

  • Justin, your are a fantastic teacher, I am a secondary school teacher (Drama)- We need people like you in our schools! Excellent, simple and to the point. Thanks!!

  • such a cool strum techniek, thank you very much!

  • so is your mom

  • Great teacher Justin

  • Your the man justin. your truly dedicated keep up the good work. i really like the way you teach. Thanks!

  • eh soh toma um pepo bem gelado q dai vai...

  • obrigado cara... (thanks dude)

    muito bom... (very nice)

  • i havent seen a better teacher, Justin man, keep going with your tutorials love em, love your website as well :D

  • the clip is capo. (spelling?) it bars the strings and changes the tone. kind of like what you do when you use a bar cord.

  • what's the black panel on the top of the guitar?

  • what's that clip?

  • i started playing guitar because of you, ive been playing for exactly a month, starting to learn barre chords

  • how do i do Fcharp minor? (can't spell)

  • f sharp is on the second fret so barr that fret with ur index finger then add 1 finger to 4th fret A string and another to 4th D string and thats a F sharp

  • I might be wrong I dont know??

  • It is actually called On and On from his album

"On and On" very good album just letting you guys know.

  • No it's actually times like these.

  • lol yea it is times like these bro not on and on

    pls send me mail...

  • cuantas guitarras tienes???

  • Hi justin...thanks for all the lovely vids...they're the best. I was just wondering can u put a vid on jack johnson's song 'poor taylor'? Thanks...

    Your'e the best. take care!

  • your the man.

  • your fantastic

    congrats.

  • nice shirt.

  • Thanks for teaching! Getting back into guitar and these vids are helping me in a big way.

  • Very nice!!

    thx for the video!

  • Hmm, Ok I watched the youtube clip of JJ playing (studio version) that you mentioned about 10 times and he definitely does that click differently. The side of his hand never touches the strings (watch his hand at 1:32) the motion he uses looks no different from his normal strum. There must be more to it.

  • thats right he definitely mutes the strings with his left hand. you can see that really good when jack plays the e cord. jack always lifts his left hand a bit when he makes that click. thats what i saw when watching jacks video.

  • you can do the same click the way jack does if you cover the strings with your left hand and strum that with your right hand, it's far less complicated than what's shown here.

  • Jack does both of the these mutes. He uses left handed muting on some songs (or portions of songs), but he uses palm muting, which Justin shows here, VERY frequently in his music. It is important to learn both if you want to develop your skills.

  • Great video bro! Thanks. I'm a big Jack Johnson fan and have always wanted to learn some of the tunes. I plan to check out your site content as well.

  • Great video bro! Thanks. I'm a big Jack Johnson fan and have always wanted to learn some of the tunes. I plan to check out your site content as well.

  • great job dude!

could you teach us some of sublime?

  • love is what I got for the win!

  • Hey Justin im a beginner at guitar for about a month and a half or so and dont get to play much during the weekdays between school and sports, but i must say that with my limited schedule i am still able to learn from your video very well, good job and thank you very much

  • any guitar-guy with some basic behind can find this video very useful :D:D:D

thanx jason...it's really wonderful what you're doing...really teaching there :D:D:D

  • thanks justin for this lesson

but i thin the way you do the chuk or the percusion is not like him

    and thinks again

  • Thanks a lot, watching your video and Jack's studio performance have helped me, a guitar noob who can't read notes or tabs, get it down to a T! :D I figured it out bit by bit, first the notes, then the percussive (I'm amazed at how good I can do that now), then the extra strumming and finally singing along to it (really hard at first when you're playing aswell!). So kudos!

  • Would you please elaborate on the strumming from 5:00-5:30? I'm trying to get the extra notes, but can't seem to get it right. Thanks.

  • great video man thanks alot. ur helpingme a bunch much love keep on doing what u do thanks again

  • Man AWSOME vid just what i was looking for. VERY helpful Cant thank you enough bro.

  • Dude your awesome

  • he does have a good voice

  • this guy just says all the right things at the right times he makes it stupid easy to learn. This guy owns. period. Plus his voice is an A

  • Thanks again J.

  • I was thinking about learning and i was just wondering how long it would take for me to learn and be able to play songs from Jack like this one and others?

  • u shouldnt think of it like tht if you go into it with a time scale like tht ur likely to throw dwn after a few days becouse u cant play a song proply yet just take it as a hobby and dont rush im not an expert but i know theres no scale of time tht should be there

  • thanks alot big help

  • Thank you dude, appreciate it.
