If you plant Daikon (Japaneese) Radish you can break up the soil naturally and provide drainage.
You should not need to till the soil it will kill all your microbial life and decrease the viability of the soil.
Use companion planting techniques and heavy mulching to build your soil organic matter.

This is a fantastic video. Very inspiring. Hats off to all involved with this project. This is it folks, this is the only way we're going to make it. We have to start within our own communities and make our selves more self sufficient.
