Ney and Jennifer commit themselves to walk throughout this divino pedazo de tango with a superb concentration and a well-poised elegance. To all of us, they show the path, the target and the means to dance with devotion.
I have taken a class with them, and they are world class instructors to be certain! If you are within 100 miles of them, then go, it is worth the time and effort to get to one of their classes.
I think Argentinians should not be arrogant by thinking and saying that only them can dance good Tango. Don't forget that Tango was born from the immigrants community..BTW, who is a native Argentinian anyway?A foreigner who dances Tango...
Argentine citizens tend to be arrogant by nature, it has become the butt of many jokes about them... but they did develop tango (both the dance and the music) not to mention they are raised with the music, the poetry and the history, which is something others will never have, in spite of how well they dance. I'm neither praising nor condemning them, it is just the way it is. BTW, the native argentine people were the gauchos and chinas, but they danced argentine folklore, not tango.
Maybe, but don't forget that the majority of the Argentinian population probaly doesn't even give a damn about Tango (which they see as something "dusty" and old-fashioned). So I am not so sure that they all are raised with the music, poetry, etc. In Tango classes in Argentina, people have to strive to get into the dance like in every other part of the world, Their only advantage is the higher number of milongas and teachers available and the fact that they understand lyrics 100%,cheers
I agree with you. Most people, especially young people, don't care about tango. And most of the people that do see it as an easy way to make a living. They are by nature very lazy, looking to make money without lots of work. Since tango has grown, people want to cash in. A lot of tango professionals personally told me this. I was lucky that even though I was born and raised in CA, my parents always played tango at home and taught me to appreciate the music and the history.
that's CRAP! how can you say that about a whole generation of people being "lazy"? you're are a fool! You should check the unemployment stats before you spout crap like this. If there is little work to be had, people will work very little. And who of us doesn't dream to travel around the world teaching a dance we love? I can tell you this, dance teachers work hard at their craft and at promoting their business of dance. your comment if by far the least educated of the lot.
You have a point, but I don't think he meant an entire generation. In my experience, many newer teachers ( not with respect to age, but with respect to their time in tango) have told me time and time again they got into it to make money off tourists. Of course I am not speaking of the top performers or true advocates. They do it for the love of the arts. I am talking about the rest: they enjoy the lifestyle, get paid with dollars and live a comfortable life without much effort. It is sad.
what is so sad about living a comfortable life? I think you guys are missing something. I don't think "tango instructor" is a very highly regarded occupation in Argentina, so of course they would down play it. And there is nothing about getting paid a lot of money for little or no work. It's not like they are prostitues, they are working an angle and as soon as the interest in tango fades, they will have to work like everyone else. Don't hate them for doing what you would if you could.
You're kidding, right ? I'm Parisian and I also learn tango, with an argentinian teacher. A lot of teacher in Paris suck so much, because they cultivate flashy moves, and french old fashioned thing. A lot of Parisian dancer are trully "cages" during the abraso and the girl can't express themselves. I hate when a guy before me try a very complicated flick without regard if its fit or not the music. These american dancer are quite cool, and true social dancers.
I didn't say parisian dancers are better, I'm just stating the fact that tango was a dying form in Argentina. It was "found" and taken to Paris, then it became popular in Europe, THEN tango became popular in Argentina again. It was going the way of the Danzon, it was a dying form, and now it is practiced all over the world. Yay for the French!
I have such respect for dancers, of any dance in the world, who try to capture the spirit of the original culture of the dance. In their embrace and their walk, these two Americans express the tango soul in a way that would move any portenio to tears.
So nice harmony between the dancers....

Man muss kein Tangotänzer sein, um feststellen zu können, dass die beiden nicht nach der Musik tanzen, sondern ihre Schrittabfolgen machen.

halo..
my mom's a cuban; she was raised listening to tango. and there are plenty of portenos who do not dance or listen to tango.
so i guess there still is no absolute...which is a relief to me! --cuban/irish/german raised in nyc. ; )

Thank you for sharing this video. As usual, your musicality is amazing! Your graceful movement and sharp embellishment are beautiful!
And I like this song "Mañana zarpa el barco" and love this 'Lucio Demare' version.
Looking forward to your video clips at upcoming DC Tango Exchange soon.
