ya it always pisses me off how they can beat the akatsuki, whom are supposed to be badass. hidan was my fav. a good example is how Pain survives from an 8-tail naruto, and yet dies from a regular naruto. but i guess it makes for good anime, the show is afterall called Naruto, not Akatsuki. i do however wish there were more battles showing how badass the Akatsuki are, including Itachi. each one had one battle and died....lame

Here's a thought... what would happen if Kakuzu stole Hidan's heart and integrated it into his own system? When it comes to Akatsuki generaly people are partnered by ability that binifit one another, and combat skill in general. Strong people are often paired with weak to make sure all the teams are as equil as possable. Kakuzu is Obviously WAY stronger then Hidan in every aspect of being a ninja. He is as smart as shikamaru and has jutsu that makes Kakashi look like a joke.

The only reason why he is in Akatsuki is because he is immortal and because of those special techniques that involve his immortality. He only needs a drop of blood to kill his enemy.
