Hey guys. If you want to exchange Asean cultures, you could check our fanpage on facebook at "AEC Campaign". Most of the people in our page are Thai getting ready for AEC, but it would be very good if you can come and join us. No matter countries you are from, you are welcome ^ ^
Let us move ahead ...into a totalitarian world government. Prosperity for the international banking cartel. Peace for the Bilderbergers. Harmony for the Club of Rome. Nice brainwashing song...
let's kick each others ass. ASEAN is good, once well integrated, we will all have more choices for pussies or in other words, more choices for girls/boys.
let's live happylie and peacefuly and we hope the other country will not come to destroy our sovereine nations we can figth them we can destroy them and we will leave peacefully.
I did an Asean tour. When I visited Manila, Philippines and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, I was so happy to the flags of Asean countries in many of the main roads. I wonder why Indonesia can't do the same...
But looking it all, the prime focus is we do need APEC for the support, just like how we use to slow the Jap Chin, we also do need to refocus on ASEAN, issue like Singapore and Viet -One way Out- kick them out.(Becuase there are "THE CHINESE", issue like - Cambodia borders and Singapore play dirty busineses in South East Asia.
Republik Indonesia, ສາທາລະນະລັດ ປະຊາທິປະໄຕ ປະຊາຊົນລາວ, Malaysia, Pyi-daung-zu Myan-ma Naing-ngan-daw, Republika ng Pilipinas, சிங்கப்பூர், ราชอาณาจักรไทย, at ang
With all the problems facing each individual Asean country- mainly militarism, corruption and poverty- and yet the spirit of Asean gives everyone hope that someday in the future a dream of a great region will come true. Asean is the most diversed and dynamic region in the world. It has the most islands of all regions in the world. It has more languages and cultures than any place in the world. There's no history of hatred among Asean countries, not like in the European Union. Long live Asean!
ASEAN and EU are different organizations and they are located in different regions. Not all Europeans are sure of their future, but many Southeast Asians like you and I have a very big hope for our homeland.
Friends, be proud of ourselves, be proud of ASEAN and our diversified cultures! Let us raise high our Golden Rice Flag, sing loudly our song! Let us come and share our traditional values and work hard for a greater common value - ASEAN unity.
I am pround to have been born in this beloved region. I feel so warm whenever visiting any ASEAN nations. Love Southeast Asia. Love ASEAN./ Sawasdee Krub from Thailand
All great comments, ASEAN friends! Our colonial history will always be part of our cultural fabric so whether we decide to choose the purification or hybridization of our musical cultures we cannot escape the call for unity, understanding, valuing, and cooperation. I am fearful of ultra-orthodoxy as it can lead to extreme fundamentalism, as I am of post-modernist subjectivism. The tension itself is, I think, part of our ongoing conversation and determination for peace in our region. Mabuhay!
@JMPNavarro Colonial mentality and progression cannot exist as one another, one has to be removed, and the one thats not making any contributions and is pissing everybody off is colonial mentality, so therfore it must be erradicated. We have zamboanga and chabacano, what more do they want??? Total destruction of our identity? I find it hard that ASEAN would ever stand by that.
@ThtOnePinoy. With all due respect, I think you misunderstand the terms being represented in this conversation thread: globalism, progress, colonial history, and colonial mentality. The word 'colonial' itself has different denotations and connotations. Many countries around the world which have repudiated any and all remnants (an effort which is analogous to your post) of their colonial past have in fact suffered politically, economically, and socially. (More to follow)
@ThtOnePinoy: I can think of at least two countries (Myanmar and TIbet) which have followed this path of cultural exclusionism and have suffered enormously because of it. I have accepted our often troublesome history of colonization as an ignominious chapter in our Philippine culture. But I do want to move forward and reject cultural exclusionism and fundamentalism. I aim to build bridges of understanding, cooperation, and mutual respect. There is so much evil in this world (more follows).
@JMPNavarro And last, but not least, unity:with colonial mentality, it will be difficult to reach this. Oh btw, sorry I didn't see your other comments, but in regards to your first one, there are different definitions of the term "colonial", however you know what I mean and do not require an explanation. And what about mexico? They still suffer even though they decide NOT to keep their real cultrue, it's not really cultural exclusion, it's cultural preservation and perhaps revival
@JMPNavarro I have no problem with co-existing with chabacano speaking people, however I will have a problem making spanish the official language of the philippines. You only accept it because you do not know the full extent of your pre-spanish history, the way things were you would prefer it, the only thing that dropped was cooperation, which unfortunately that happened exactly the time invasion came up, and the kingdoms fell because of it. Before, we were prosperous.
@JMPNavarro and in order to progress, we should add our own culture to be educated, it is an embarassment that we do not even teach our pre-spanish history, which drive filipino pride into mistaken ways, instead it should be directed to helping the country, so they can be reminded of their ancestor's riches beforehand, we can try to regain that, and insist our govt. to research the documents just sitting their waiting to be read written in hanzi, kanji, and spanish.
@ThtOnePinoy: The last thing one earth I want to see is that all the forces of good in this world are dissipated because of our petty quarrels, lust for power, and desire for ego. I believe in ASEAN and its forward trajectory. I think that we can co-exist in mutual respect, cultural diplomacy and thoughtful preservation, and unite to shed light and wisdom on the dark alley ways of economic imperialism. Peace be with you.
@JMPNavarro Then you share my thoughts. The last things you want to see are petty quarels: colonial mentality is basically a form of crab mentality, lust for power: the people with colonial mentality don't really want to benefit our country only themselves, desire for ego: I just said, only benefit themselves... Cultural diplomacy:if you don't have a culture present this is not possible, thoughtful preservation:What I am doing right now, preserving our culture.
this song was intended to be neither a hymn nor an anthem. it's simply a song without any political undertones attached to it. true, there are messages to be conveyed in it for listeners. more importantly, this musical expression was composed more out of dedication to the regional grouping and hopes for a better future. concievably, listeners might have different interpretations of the song, but that's ok :-) (delfindakila: it was sung by some indonesian young singers...nice voices eh?)
This anthem should be scrapped. It aint reflective of ASEAN heritage. Everytime I hear that hymm im constantly reminded of the European colonization of South East Asia. My God, ASEANS are free yet we sing in the music and voice of the former colonial masters? Sheesh
Oh noes! Why is it in english? And why are we using western music and Instruments? Arent we supposed to play indigenous music and instruments since this is not Europe or America. This is ASEAN!
@Aezured: Nice suggestion on the indigenous instruments. What language would you suggest so all the ASEAN member nations can understand? Perhaps, one solution might be to have the anthem (or better yet, hymn) have only one verse and chorus repeated in as many ASEAN official languages represented. That would be quite long, unwieldly, and well...boring, don't you think?
Well, this song is, in fact, not the anthem of ASEAN. It's just a song. The anthem of ASEAN is "The ASEAN Hymn", which starts with "ASEAN..oh, ASEAN / Our voices rise as one...". Anyway I prefer this song-lah!
Nope. The ASEAN Hymn is NOT the ASEAN Anthem. If you read the 1st ASEAN Constitution and Press Releases of the ASEAN Secretariat, they expressly told us that the ASEAN Anthem is still "to be made", in other words "to be written".
Lets us move ahead..... and make better future for our region the one we called ASEAN.....
